This year my heart was broken by Toys "R" Us closing, just wondered what other shops that have closed do you miss?
This year we've had maplins, BHS I believe was this year, Mothercare will all be gone by next year summer too.
As a teen I used to love Bay Trading, and a shop called Tammy Girl.

Woolworths.

Jeezoh · 02/12/2018 13:08

Dolcis! And Woolworths.

ScreamingValenta · 02/12/2018 13:08

I still feel sad that all the Chelsea Girls turned into River Islands in the late 1980s.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 02/12/2018 13:08

Woolworths

brizzledrizzle · 02/12/2018 13:10

Woolworths - you could get everything you needed there.
I wouldn't say that my heart was broken though, generally speaking (though not in the case of Woollies I believe, that was the banks) it's because people don't shop there. I have no idea how WHS is still trading.

TheMagician · 02/12/2018 13:10

Principles!

Flowerpot2005 · 02/12/2018 13:10

C&A & Chelsea Girl, happy days!

anitagreen · 02/12/2018 13:11

Ah shit I forgot about woolies I used to love the pick & mix their.
Forgot to say what other shops do you think won't be here in 5 years time? I don't think Debenhams will be at all

BikeRunSki · 02/12/2018 13:13

Racing Green, I got a lot of clothes there when I first started work.
Kew

anitagreen · 02/12/2018 13:13

Our Price.

Bhs.

Record shops in general.

Video rental shops.

Awwww, good times. Grin

rumidumi · 02/12/2018 13:16

Woolworths and Tammy girl!

BikeRunSki · 02/12/2018 13:16

I think WHS survives on convinience, at train stations and airports.

mamaduckbone · 02/12/2018 13:17

Definitely Woolworths - you could pop in for anything.
Cosmetics to Go - I used to get their wonderful mail order catalogue as a teen and loved it. (Lush just isn’t the same)

brizzledrizzle · 02/12/2018 13:18

I also think Debenhams will go and possibly chains like Waterstones will either go or scale back massively. One I used to go to has relocated to a much smaller store that is tucked away on a side road rather than the old slot on the high street and is now even quieter than it was before because a lot of people seem not to know where it is - I only found out several months after it moved.

Homebase has gone/is going isn't it? I can't see much of a future for Argos either.

Villanellesproudmum · 02/12/2018 13:18

Missed the Toys r us Christmas advert Sad

Few struggling at the moment. Jack Wills has just been bailed out with a new investor, Mothercare, New Look, Debenhams struggling.

booksandwool · 02/12/2018 13:20

Glad I'm not the first to say Kew - the poor woman's Jigsaw!

Sitranced · 02/12/2018 13:20

Fopp

yumscrumfatbum · 02/12/2018 13:21

Woolworths
BHS used to get dressing gowns and all kids PJ's there
Most of all miss local bank have to traipse into town to pay in cash. Used to have one in our village

Amaaboutthis · 02/12/2018 13:23

Toys R U was terrible on every level not least because of their appalling customer service. It should have gone years earlier

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/12/2018 13:23

I worked for Woolworths and was made redundant, still devastated!

tealady · 02/12/2018 13:24

Principles and Richards
Woolies
Debenhams in their better days

treacledan71 · 02/12/2018 13:24

Yes Woolworths too. I would have loved it if my ds could have gone in with a 5.00 voucher and just walked around . So much choice

Elphame · 02/12/2018 13:25

I miss Kew too - I still have a few pieces I wear regularly.

Justmuddlingalong · 02/12/2018 13:26
