This year my heart was broken by Toys "R" Us closing, just wondered what other shops that have closed do you miss?
This year we've had maplins, BHS I believe was this year, Mothercare will all be gone by next year summer too.
As a teen I used to love Bay Trading, and a shop called Tammy Girl.

Athena - the best posters

ButchyRestingFace · 02/12/2018 13:40

Oh yes, Gap - not gone yet, probably singlehandedly being kept afloat by moi and my penchant for jailhouse stripes, but how much longer can it survive? Sad

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 02/12/2018 13:40

I loved Athena as a teenager, looking at the stationary and being able to get posters of my favourite films, was really sad then that closed. Looking at stationary online isn't the same

LoniceraJaponica · 02/12/2018 13:42

BHS

fussychica · 02/12/2018 13:42

Last time I went there was still an Athena in Yeovil.

For me probably Richard Shops, I bought loads of lovely clothes there.

Redcrayons · 02/12/2018 13:45

Had a random chat with a woman about where to buy school lunch boxes and my first thought was Woolworths.
Also BHS Home. need a new bedroom light fitting and my only option now is IKEA.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/12/2018 13:46

Woolworths, Richard Shops, BHS.
I always have a wee in House of Fraser on Oxford Street as there is never a queue!

MikeUniformMike · 02/12/2018 13:46

Woolworths.
The M&S in the high street.
BHS.
I also liked Kew.

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 13:46

C&A is very much alive, just not in the UK.

M&S is going the way of BHS. Our local branch is just as dull as ditchwater - lazy merchandising, hideous products that don't fit and certainly don't flatter. Agree WHS is doomed - what a ripoff. Like a pound shop where everything costs £10!

I don't like to see a dying high street, but I am not going to miss any given chain store. I would rather see smaller shops.

Claudiawinksatmen · 02/12/2018 13:47

Woolworths for me too - and Spoils kitchen reject shops - I still have the Bistro cutlery I bought one piece a week when I was a student - ooh and C&A

YeahCorvid · 02/12/2018 13:49

ODDBINS

Anasnake · 02/12/2018 13:49

Mark One - teenage me loved it
Snob - ditto
Chelsea Girl
John Menzies
Lunn Poly (get away)
Etam
Fosters
Dolcis

MikeUniformMike · 02/12/2018 13:49

I also liked The Pier.
Body Shop stuff is great, but it has lost the 'cheap and cheerful eco' vibe of the 1980s.
Not a shop but I loved Cosmetics-to-go but rarely venture into Lush.

noenergy · 02/12/2018 13:49

BHS, I loved the kids clothes from there esp he girls party dresses. I know they still have a website but don't have kids clothes on it.

C&A, will have to go to some European country to c if it is still any good.

Adams used to have the cutest kids clothes.

Toys R Us.

Etam

Bay Trading

If Debenhams, Mothercare and New Look and a whole load of others will not survive, what are we going to be left with?

I already struggle to find kids clothes.

MikeUniformMike · 02/12/2018 13:49

Maplins! I used to get loads of xmas pressies there.

Dotte · 02/12/2018 13:49

Allders, thier bedding was IMO nicer than M&S and House of Fraser.

Also the Pier although I'm not sure I'd still like it now, I've gone all Marie Kondo and minimalistic.

OldBrownShoe · 02/12/2018 13:50

BHS and our price.

I also miss those adverts you used to get in the newspaper or magazines where you could order a book/cd and choose a few more for 1p each.

Athena51 · 02/12/2018 13:51

Richard Shops where we used to get going out dresses in the 1980s. They used to sell Biba makeup and had a lovely cafe where I used to eat chicken curry and sip Earl Grey tea thinking I was dead sophisticated Smile

adultcat · 02/12/2018 13:51

I used to work for Tammy Girl, I was gutted when we merged with Etam!

Athena51 · 02/12/2018 13:52

There was a shop called Past Times where I used to get Christmas presents for the ex-PILs too.

TeaAddict235 · 02/12/2018 13:53

Bay trading!

@ButchyRestingFace Benetton is fantastically good in Germany and France. Think of it like Top shop meets House of Fraser, the style plus the quality. I'm pleasantly surprised on every visit.

Anasnake · 02/12/2018 13:54

Ahh Benetton, just a shop full of folded up jumpers !

Urbanbeetler · 02/12/2018 13:55

C&A - their labels were so useful when trying to work out if your pants were on the right way round.

EzioAuditore · 02/12/2018 13:55

I miss Borders -- I could easily spend hours and hours in there.

KingkillerKvothe · 02/12/2018 13:55

Woolworths.

It was my favourite shop as a kid and teenager. Definitely gutted when it closed. That shop got about 90% of my birthday and pocket money.
