This year my heart was broken by Toys "R" Us closing, just wondered what other shops that have closed do you miss?
This year we've had maplins, BHS I believe was this year, Mothercare will all be gone by next year summer too.
As a teen I used to love Bay Trading, and a shop called Tammy Girl.

And YY to BHS! DH and I loved their homeware, on the plus side we were told by a Matalan member of staff that their homeware buyer is the same as BHS used to have, and they have loads of lovely lighting and homeware to chose from now. Will still miss it at Xmas though...

LoniceraJaponica · 03/12/2018 14:27

HMV is still going.

TeaAddict235 · 03/12/2018 14:30

Wimpy still exists in Woolwich if you're interested

TeaAddict235 · 03/12/2018 14:32

Does anyone miss the Early learning centre? I do. Spent many a Saturday morning in there while my DM got the groceries and paid bills.

BasilFaulty · 03/12/2018 14:49

@teaaddict235 I loved ELC! Has it completely gone? I think I might have seen a small concession of it recently...

Malaco · 03/12/2018 14:57

My dds love the HMV in Croydon High St. Many a shopping trip consists of Primark, HMV, something to eat then home.

Halloweenallyearround · 03/12/2018 15:17

Woolworths so much so I bought a second Christmas tree and the book this year.
I'm a sad sack I know but Woolworths reminds me of Christmas

Nanny0gg · 03/12/2018 15:43

East. I loved their jewellery. Richard shops. Racing Green and the Pier

Wallis and Gap can't last much longer.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/12/2018 15:46

I used to like Wallis, but the shop in Meadowhall has been mostly given over to Evans and petite sizes, and I am neither Evans sized, nor petite.

The80sweregreat · 03/12/2018 16:24

Our town has a wimpey! It's always busy.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 03/12/2018 16:37

Lush are exorbitantly overpriced: I much preferred their predecessor Cosmetics to Go, especially their bombastic bath bombs (purple, with little faces, big lips and explosive hair) and chocolate bubble bath. I can still smell them now! Another +1 here for KU2; in my book better than Jigsaw by a country mile. Liked Past Times too.

Blanchedupetitpois · 03/12/2018 16:57

The Pier - loved their homewares

MuddlingMackem · 03/12/2018 17:04

Surprised nobody has mentioned two shops I miss: Littlewoods (for underwear mainly to be fair) and Geordie Jeans. But I hate shopping so only shop when absolutely necessary. Grin

However, I'm another who misses Woolies, they were great for school clothes, kids coats and pyjamas, and toys - we got the DC a fab bouncy castle from there in a sale. :)

We also miss Toys R Us, but the Gateshead one never felt soulless, the staff there always seemed pretty good.

I did miss Adams when it closed as the kids were still young enough for it to be a good shop for them.

RaspberryRipple1963 · 03/12/2018 17:13

I was going to say Woolworths, but actually, when I think about it,I think they went downhill in the few years before they went out of business. Back in the 80s up until the mid 90s,I would have agreed with the PPs who said that 'you could pop in there for anything'. But in the 10 years leading up to their closure,I think they went overboard on the toys and games, also on the sweets and chocolates. Back in the early to late 80s,I would buy a large proportion of my DD's clothes from there. I certainly don't recall bring able to do the same in the early to mid 2000s when my DGD was little. They were also always my first port of call if I wanted a vinyl record (remember them? Smile) or,a bit later on,a CD.
I also miss C and A. They were my 'go to' shop for many of my clothes.
While we're on the subject, does anyone remember 'Giltrows the bakers'?. They were around throughout the 70s and 80s,can't remember which actual year they disappeared. I think they must have been 'absorbed' into another bakers,e.g. The Baker's Oven (also gone now) or Gregg's. I loved Giltrows, they did lovely sandwiches, and also made my wedding cake.

Jux · 03/12/2018 17:56

I got all dd's school uniform, underwear, and much more from Woolworths right up until they closed, RaspberryRipple

nicslackey · 03/12/2018 19:04

We have HMV in Belfast

TeaAddict235 · 03/12/2018 19:17

I must be another one keeping Gap going @Nanny0gg , I too have a penchant for stripes and navy blue. I 💗 Gap. They just don't have it where I live at all, so online it must be!

anitagreen · 03/12/2018 19:35

What areas did everyone go to have such bad experiences ? I've never been to one in London that didn't let you have your bag, had tannoy announcement or signs up about shoplifting, and they priced match to other shops in the last 5 years Confused
