Reading some of the Christmas threads, it seems there are so many people who are spending hundreds or thousands of pounds on Christmas presents, often spending money they don’t have or can ill afford.

This is madness. Buy only for the immediate family. Don’t buy lots. Don’t buy things just for the sake of buying.

Oh great, another virtue signalling thread.

SylviaAndSidney · 24/11/2018 23:05

Good advice, but I doubt many will take heed.

SylviaAndSidney · 24/11/2018 23:06

Erm, that isn’t what virtue signalling is...

LagunaBubbles · 24/11/2018 23:07

Do you really care about what other people do at Christmas?

FourFoxCakes · 24/11/2018 23:07

Beeswax. Own. Mind. Your.

Greensleeves · 24/11/2018 23:08

Sylvia...it totally is

AjasLipstick · 24/11/2018 23:08

Er...you can try but you won't have any affect on what I choose to do at all thank you.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/11/2018 23:08

I save from January and usually have around £600 to use for Christmas give or take £50. That’s for my Mum, 2x sisters, 3 x brothers, Mum, step Mum, dad, step brother, uncle, brothers girlfriend, my 2 dcs and my bf.

DaphneBroonsHandbag · 24/11/2018 23:09

For goodness sake give it a rest! People will spend what they will, it's really none of your concern OP. People can do as they please without 'advice' from randomers on an Internet forum.

SylviaAndSidney · 24/11/2018 23:10

How so Greensleeves? It’s sensible advice, some people do overspend and get themselves into debt. If the OP had thrown in a bit of “donate to a worthwhile cause...” as well it would be.

Poloshot · 24/11/2018 23:10

Mind your own business

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 24/11/2018 23:12

Well now that a stranger on the internet has encouraged me... Hmm

Seriously though Notcontent most people spend what they are comfortable spending. Some can easily afford it, some save through the year because they want to spend on Christmas. We're all adults and capable of making our own decisions.

WorraLiberty · 24/11/2018 23:13

Oooh a random on the internet wants to 'encourage' me to do something with my own money.

I simply must do it.

FourFoxCakes · 24/11/2018 23:14

Sylvia, thread says “you all” not “people who overspend”. So it’s likely a point about consumerism in general, not balance-your-budget-advice-for-the-profligate.

CoughLaughFart · 24/11/2018 23:16

It’s sensible advice, some people do overspend and get themselves into debt.

But it’s not advice anyone has actually asked for.

SylviaAndSidney · 24/11/2018 23:17

Yes I suppose so re-reading it FourFox.

If you’re telling everyone not to overspend OP... well mind your own business Grin

CarolDanvers · 24/11/2018 23:18

I tell you what, you do your Christmas your way and I will do my Christmas my way. What do you think of that for a plan? Everyone else on the thread you do Christmas your way too, ok? Great.

InspectorIkmen · 24/11/2018 23:19

Get me one whilst you’re at it Worra. In fact make it two. No bollocks - get the whole herd. Every fucker I know can have one.
Bugger the stuff I love to give them or that they love to receive. It’s goats all the way from here on in.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 24/11/2018 23:19

Worra Don't do it! It starts with a goat, then the goat needs a flatscreen tv. Then a sky package... C'mon you know how this goes Grin!

MatildaTheCat · 24/11/2018 23:20

OP I’m with you.

I’m not short of money and I’m also not mean but nothing leaves me colder than the endless spend of Christmas. I agree, buy for those you love. Within your budget, carefully chosen gifts. That’s nice.

Buying for 35 random relatives who are each somehow designated a sum of, say, £25 is madness.

I still buy too much but it has been vastly reduced. We all own too much stuff but if my dearest need something they will get it. Not necessarily at Christmas.

PortiaCastis · 24/11/2018 23:20

I'll buy and spend what I want thanks not what a t'internet random tells me to

arranfan · 24/11/2018 23:33

Pygmy? Angora? Bagot? Golden Guernsey? British Primitive?

Enquiring minds need to know.

dontalltalkatonce · 24/11/2018 23:35

YABU. It's none of your business what other people do with their money.

WorraLiberty · 24/11/2018 23:36

Ok you're all right

Sod the goat, I'll just buy turkey as usual.

If that's ok with the OP?
