New neighbors stole our bin

Actually can't believe I'm writing this but I think it's pretty amusing plus I've recently lost the will with pretty much everyone and need to share this before I lose the plot totally. 😂😂😂

New neighbors next door moved in yesterday..... I haven't met them yet...... It was recycling day yesterday and we have two recycling bins clearly marked with our house number on the lid and side of each the bin...... Went on school run as they were still moving in....... Came back home to find they had pinched one of my bins off my drive and stuffed it to full with their packagin brown boxes etc

  1. why?
  2. really why?
  3. I'm really annoyed because I'm going to have to go over there at some point today and ask for my bin back that I have to pay extra for having an additional bin and get to look like a dickhead neighbor being petty about bins. Great start to a new neighbor relationship but I can't let them have it or get away with it can I??
  4. I really wish I was making this up honestly

Apart from all the points made re it is your bin. If you are worrying about it now, you'll be even more worried about speaking to them later. And you'll be tracking over in the dark. Just do it. You'll be able to stop worrying!

If you don't want confrontation then just take it, you don't need to knock on their door!

Vampiratequeen · 08/11/2018 16:48

Have you been to get it back yet OP?

Fairylea · 08/11/2018 16:50

They probably just assumed one of them is theirs and possibly didn’t even pay any attention to the stickers etc.

Just go round and ask for it back!

cheesefield · 08/11/2018 16:58

Its your own bin OP, you don't have to ask for permission to take it back! Just drag it back over to your side.

Florries · 08/11/2018 17:18

Good luck op

LakieLady · 08/11/2018 17:37

I would go round and introduce myself and say "I think you accidentally took one of my recycling bins and I need it back". Ask if they have any black sacks or something else to put their rubbish in, just so they know you don't intend taking their rubbish with the bin.

That's would I'd do, but I'd want to empty the bin all over their drive.

StartingAgain1 · 08/11/2018 17:56

The longer you leave it the more rubbish will be in it and the more awkward it will become to ask for it back

StartingAgain1 · 08/11/2018 17:57

The suggestions of just wheeling it back are good, it's dark now so would be ideal time if you don't want to confront

Stormtrooper1986 · 08/11/2018 18:16

Good luck , let us know what happens

HannahHut · 08/11/2018 18:32

What has happened to their bin? Do they need to call the council for one now they've moved in?

I would go get it back before it gets too late because they'll have the excuse of it being late and cold and dark and they'll do in the morning. Then forget and do it the next day, and the next...

Cuttingthegrass · 08/11/2018 18:41

Just say ‘this is a bit awkward’ whilst cracking knuckles and check they have no visual disability before pointing out your house number on the bin. Explain how obviously you need two bins so that’s why you pay for two and then just wait. And wait. And wait. For their response.

CrabbityRabbit · 08/11/2018 18:53

Have you gone round OP?

Tartsamazeballs · 08/11/2018 19:17

We had this with our new neighbours, except they pinched it off our front garden and bin has "#20 Tarts Street" written on it in 3 places. We did creatively attempt a Tracy-whatsherface artwork on their front garden, but it looked "rubbish" 😀😎

HavelockVetinari · 08/11/2018 19:29

Excellent @VelociraptorRex, @AnyFucker and @lilmishap.

Just so we're clear though, I'M Mr T.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/11/2018 19:32

I'm beginning to think the Op went round and they have stuffed her into the bin alongside the cardboard. Confused

Hopefully she is sat inside with a cup of tea Brew and a packet of biscuits Biscuit celebrating her brave retrieval of the bin.

AnyFucker · 08/11/2018 19:33

Heh

DanielRicciardosSmile · 08/11/2018 19:35

I thought new neighbour had posted a thread of their own, but seemingly not.

Hope you got your bin back OP.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/11/2018 19:37

If I moved somewhere new, I might not know to examine bin lids for house numbers, and if I saw 2 bins in front of 2 houses might make the same assumption.

Maybe if you’re three feet tall, are not familiar with numbers or have just moved from the Himalayas.

OP, this is barely a blip let alone a situation or a battlefield! Come on, give yourself some credit. Deep breath, big smile and away you go.

It’s the first step to not being a pushover!

Maelstrop · 08/11/2018 19:38

How's bingate going, OP?

LordPickle · 08/11/2018 19:40

The only acceptable outcome is to tip your bin onto their drive and take your bin home! (I say this easily as it's not my problem 😁)

So what happened OP?

Tobermory · 08/11/2018 19:43

Hope you were brave OP and got your bin back!!

I hate confrontation so can really emphathise!

Iamtheoneandonly2018 · 08/11/2018 19:47

Can't believe I'm on here awaiting outcome of Bin-Gate.......

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 19:49

Bin is back!!!!!!!!!!! Sadly I'm a gigantic wuss and DH retrieved it when he got home. He did knock but they didn't answer don't know if they were in or not only one car was there. He emptied the contents into their bin and some overspill he leaned against their house. Now tucked the bins up in our garage 😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

What is life!?
