New neighbors stole our bin

Actually can't believe I'm writing this but I think it's pretty amusing plus I've recently lost the will with pretty much everyone and need to share this before I lose the plot totally. 😂😂😂

New neighbors next door moved in yesterday..... I haven't met them yet...... It was recycling day yesterday and we have two recycling bins clearly marked with our house number on the lid and side of each the bin...... Went on school run as they were still moving in....... Came back home to find they had pinched one of my bins off my drive and stuffed it to full with their packagin brown boxes etc

  1. why?
  2. really why?
  3. I'm really annoyed because I'm going to have to go over there at some point today and ask for my bin back that I have to pay extra for having an additional bin and get to look like a dickhead neighbor being petty about bins. Great start to a new neighbor relationship but I can't let them have it or get away with it can I??
  4. I really wish I was making this up honestly

@WinterIsComing84
Same in Ni. We moved recently and I always thought the bins belonged to the house but they don’t. They belong to the owners of the house so when you move amd are filling in the paper work for what is remaining etc you let them know the bins are coming with you. We have 3 (black bin, general waste. Blue bin, recycling. Brown bin, compost waste) £135 if you need to replace all 3.

WinterIsComing84 · 10/11/2018 00:16

Due to the fact that some people can't be bothered with buying their own bins, we have a massive issue with people just dumping black bags onto the street on bin day.
The seagulls rip them to shreds in seconds, and litter is rife. Therefore the council have to fork out to pay for weekly clean ups.
We have no bins for recycling either - just 4 different coloured bags. Very useful when they've been emptied and left back outside your house... I've never lived anywhere as windy as I am now. I've lost countless bags and have to wait a month for new ones to be delivered.
Useless system!

Imagine trying to ask for a pond back 😆😆😆😆

Talk about CFs! I'd empty the bin then take the bin back asap not caring if they see you or not as you paid for the extra bin so they're taking liberties!

katiethecarrot · 10/11/2018 02:48

@WinterIsComing84 Cornwall here too - current system does suck but they are talking about changing it to wheelie bins

angelfacecuti75 · 10/11/2018 03:05

I wluld take it back straight away. I might let the binman empty it. Then i would write passively aggressively on both bins "Stolen from no 102 (or appropriate door number) please return if found at any other no. Ta"
Now who looks like a dickhead ^

angelfacecuti75 · 10/11/2018 03:06

sollyfromsurrey · 10/11/2018 08:39

juells why are you so aggressive? The bin bags in the skip I get. But why would you storm aggressively to someone for taking your bin when they are new neighbours and clearly it could have been an error. Why approach everything aggressively? It's not necessary and not something that creates community spirit in any way.

Rubberduckies · 10/11/2018 09:15

Our neighbour stole our bin almost every week. I was constantly going round to ask for it. Her husband would take their bin in after collection, then when she got home she'd see a bin still out (because we are still at work) and take that in too! I still don't understand why she never thought it odd that her bins were multiplying. The only one she continues to deny having is the recycling box. The council replaced it for free but it's about half the size :( I paid for massive personalised bin stickers on eBay in the end....

People live in different circumstances. You may live somewhere civilised, I live on a road where every house has two or three flats and feral children are rampaging all day in the summer - one even scratched his initials into the bonnet of my car, that's how little they think of other people's property Angry As a woman on my own, if I became known as a soft touch I'd be walked on. There is no community spirit.

Juells · 10/11/2018 11:21

...forgot to say that, as I pointed out in an earlier post, our bins are weighed and we're charged per kilo and per lift. So it costs you if someone else takes your bin and puts their crap in it.

LakieLady · 10/11/2018 12:00

Same here: council don't supply bins and people can't be arsed, so foxes and gulls scatter rubbish from black bags all over the street on bin day. It's no wonder we have a rat problem (although being near 3 separate stables and half the neighbourhood keeping chickens probably doesn't help).

dontalltalkatonce · 10/11/2018 12:12

I'm sure you'll see NDN in good time and say hi. I wouldn't over compensate though as really they need to get on with their NDN too.

Exactly. There's absolutely no need for drama or 'smoothing things over'. Just a nod and a friendly wave. Maybe your issues with 'confrontation' is that you're seeing confrontation when it isn't there or unnecessary - someone removes your clearly marked bin from your property, you go over and wheel it back.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 10/11/2018 12:14

I would have just filled their bin and grabbed mine back when empty (and put a lock on it).

But pleased you got it back.

Educator66 · 10/11/2018 12:55

Because you have your computer set to American language not the English language.
Just go round, knock on the door and smiling just say "I notice you have picked up my bin in error, mind if I have it back please?" If there is no-one in, remove the packaging leave it by the door and just take the bin. The most natural response is the best.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/11/2018 13:00

@MumOfThree92 - you need a bin lock, there is no point is stealing a bin you can't use.

OnBail · 10/11/2018 13:09

I really hate all this angst over bins, fortnightly collections and having separate bins has led to people dumping rubbish in other peoples bins and stealing them.

I used to live on a big estate, in front of my house was a car park, the bin lorry refused to go on the car park so everyone had to put their bins on the path next to the car park entrance, 30 - 40 bins were put out, I couldn’t even see the bins from my house. The bin lorry would turn up, then people would go out and get their bin, people who forgot to put their bin out would steal a bin and others would take the cleaner or newer bin. I would get in from work and my bin would be gone. Always had to track it down.

Once I got home and my bin was gone and a Shiite one was left. My bin had my house number in big red paint. I tracked it down to a house and swapped the bins over and took my bin home and left it by the back gate. About 20 minutes later I heard the sound of bins being moved, thought it was my neighbour bringing hers in, went outside to bring the bin into the garden and the cheeky fuckers had been and swapped my bin with the shitty one I had left at their house. Mine had number 6 on the front with big red paint, they lived at number 21 so not like they got the numbers mixed up.

I was bloody furious, went straight back to their house and swapped the bins over again but locked mine in the garden this time.

We moved house 4 years ago into a village, I knew it was a good area as the house had been empty for about a year and nobody had knicked the bins!

Ztst · 10/11/2018 13:34

All this just results from councils not functioning properly. They need to take waste every week. Everybody needs enough space in their rubbish and recycling containers. It’s pretty simple really. All down to cost cutting and putting these contracts out to the cheapest bidder. Leading to fly tipping.

yorkrose · 10/11/2018 14:24

Really pleased you have your bin back!

Fridaydreamer · 10/11/2018 14:30

@CrabbityRabbit

”thus closing the CF circle.”

The eloquence of this made my afternoon GrinGrin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/11/2018 15:10

@Ztst is spot on.

BackBoiler · 10/11/2018 15:52

This shit gives me the rage my old neighbours used to stuff their recycling bin of stuff that shouldnt be in there so it didnt get emptied. They took mine after collection so i tipped out their rubbish on their drive dragged bin up path and hurled it over my back fence. I was pregnant and hormonal and probably shouldn't bw throwing wheelie bins over fences!

dontalltalkatonce · 10/11/2018 16:03

We got locks on ours due to people chucking regular rubbish into our recycling bin.

PanamaPattie · 10/11/2018 16:28

After so many bins either being nicked or just running away, I gave up buying them. I go to the recycling centre/dump every Sunday with my rubbish. I'm living my best life.

StoneofDestiny · 10/11/2018 16:49

Ztst
Yes we are regressing in quality of life issues. I remember Park Keepers patrolling public parks as a kid and it kept things safer, I remember bus conductors as well as drivers on every bus and travel was safer. More till operators at post offices and banks made queuing shorter. I remember weekly bin collections too. All these jobs, and more, that kept left ticking over better and provided employment have disappeared and life hasn't improved.

Feeling old and grumpy at the loss.
