Sounds like a plan:

I hope I’m wrong, but a 3-way deal is in the making: 1. Some rogue KSA team blamed. 2. MbS cleared of wrongdoing. 3. US-Saudi arms deal survives. 4. Turkey gets economic deals from both sides. 5. All 3 leaders return to usual business. 6. Free journalism takes yet another blow.

The first section discussion on the working of the story of Jamal Khashoggi's killing here is worth attention. From the response of a compromised, self-interested POTUS, to the Turkish interest in squeezing advantage from KSA, there is a large carpet being spread for this man's death to be swept under:

I may have taken some shallow, facile, cheap shots over the Warren DNA yesterday, but I've listened to a few voices I respect and reflected. There is some evidence emerging that the Dem performance in the midterms may not be as strong as optimism led us to expect, so nothing should take full focus from the midterms' push. Warren's announcement distracts from that, she is setting her stage for 2020, and holding off for a few weeks would have been more judicious. Someone pointed out, John Heilman I think, that the Stinker would effectively choose which Dem, from a potentially crowded field, stands against him by making them his main antagonist. Warren is very astute, so that may be part of her calculation in ratcheting up her offensive. But timing in a crowded, fickle news cycle is important.

Thanks for the Deadline WH link mimi. Excellent discussion.

Rogue hackers, rogue killers all in the mind of the rogue President.

I was a big fan of Elizabeth Warren when she was going after the bankers. I'm not sure about this latest strategy. Dems need a leader especially if the mid terms prove disappointing. I'm not sure Warren could play that role.

lionheart · 16/10/2018 13:27

The Native controversy was always going to be the stick to beat her with, whatever happened and regardless of how she dealt with it.

At the moment her response (on twitter at least) is quite feisty.

ohmymimi · 16/10/2018 13:32

I tend to agree about Warren, Gump, but who would be the most effective to take on Stinky. And you can never underestimate the Dems' ability to step on themselves with hobnail boots. If the midterms don't deliver, the Stinker will have a force 10 in his sails and no rudder.

The footage of Pompeo laughing and smirking in Saudi is grotesque.

If the midterms don't deliver, the Stinker will have a force 10 in his sails and no rudder.

Yup, mimi
I also think the Dems will descend into chaos finger pointing rather than unifying. There is also the view that if the Dems do win the House or both, Trump will use his megaphone to paint them as blockers and responsible for all the issues he has created in the first two years - the deficit, immigration etc.

I don't see anyone strong enough to take on Trump either atm, especially this more Shine controlled Trump. Having said that in 2014, we dismissed Trump as a joke candidate so.... I suppose it will depend on events in the next 12 months or so, and who best fits the post midterm environment.

A high-level Turkish official says police have found “certain evidence” during their search of the Saudi Consulate showing that Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi was killed there.

The official did not provide details on the evidence that was recovered during the hourslong search at the diplomatic mission that ended early Tuesday.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation.

Turkish officials say Saudi agents killed and dismembered the writer at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2. Saudi Arabia previously called the allegation “baseless,” but U.S. media reports suggest the Saudis may soon acknowledge Khashoggi was killed there, perhaps as part of a botched interrogation.

It’s going to be OK about killing Jamal Khashoggi because the Saudis only meant to kidnap & torture him, no big deal, we can go back to business as usual:
