Timothy Naftali, co-author of 'Impeachment. An American History', explains why Dems should not rush to impeach the Stinker. I hope they take note. Discussion at around 72 mins. in:

Ah, one of that fraternity of angst young white males of @NBCLeftField fame.

The NYT article is spot on mimi and it's sad they say let's wait and see. The media has been neutralised now. Or they have realised Trump is their meal ticket. There's no normal normal any more.

I had to switch off MJ this morning. They were screaming the Dems don't have a message, a leader, a focus. 2016 revisited.

It's scary.

What Happens When Multiple Women Run for President?

Let's turn that around what happens when multiple men run for President?

ohmymimi · 19/10/2018 14:13

I just did the same thing, Gump, watching on YouTube. I loathe Scarborough, he is such a blowhard, and the Simperer irritates my last nerve, but they do sometimes have reasonable guests, so I do check them out. However, they have a point about the lack of Dem cohesion. I'm very worried there has been some over-optimism about the midterms. If the Dems do well, the next two years are going to be difficult enough. If they fail ............

ohmymimi · 19/10/2018 14:46

I have no doubt that in personal relationships 43 is quite a likeable old buff. He and Laura were extremely gracious in their handling of the handover to the Obamas and the warmth between the two couples is evident. He was a terrible POTUS, we all know the long list of reasons why. I thought he had made a wise choice to keep his head down after he left the WH. Then he lobbied for Kav. and is now essentially enabling Stinky. However, America rehabilitated Nixon over time. I remember being shocked by his state funeral and the eulogies. But then, I think war criminal Kissinger should be meeting the end of his life in a prison cell.

Mueller is a criminal investigator
I'd be content that, where there is evidence crimes have been committed, they will be prosecuted, statute of limitations permitting. I'm not expecting to be content.

Gumpendorf · 19/10/2018 17:37

I'm very worried there has been some over-optimism about the midterms.

Me too, mimi and it frustrates me that Scarborough and co are defining their idea of political leadership and then judging the Dems don't match up. If they match Trump's street fighting they are behaving badly. If they behave well, they lack fight. They can't win. MJ always brings it back to the Clintons because it's a dog whistle.

The media gave Trump a pass in 2016 and will again in 2018. On the one hand the mid terms are a referendum on Trump but on the other hand they are not. Trump is therefore allowed to claim credit for his 'successes' but without proper scrutiny and in the meantime he rolls on. It's tough but they really should have got their act together by now. It's not normal and it's not funny.

And it annoys the hell out of me that Scarborough never talks about voter suppression in any of these states. Thank goodness for Maddow and O'Donnell.

Sorry for the rant. It's been one of those days ...

AcrossthePond55 · 19/10/2018 17:39

As far as the Mueller results, what I'm preparing for is a report showing a slew of actions that are unethical and immoral, but not technically illegal. As a result, there will be much finger-shaking and 'taking' but it will be rationalized as "Well, it wasn't very nice of them but it's not like it's actually illegal" or "It's not illegal, therefore it's OK to do it" but nothing will actually happen to remove these miscreants from whatever position they hold. I think this will be true even with the blue wave.

US business law permits for a lot of that, as for good or ill our 'white collar crime' law philosophy is based on the belief that ethics and morals will stop someone from doing something therefore it needn't be made illegal and/or that if something isn't illegal, then it's not immoral or unethical. Again, it was formulated when people still felt that personal honour was something to be proud of. Nowadays they're proud of what they can get away with. Scrotus is a prime example of this.

In conversations with allies, Trump has begun to distance himself from Crown Prince Mohammed, saying he barely knows him. And he has played down the relationship that Jared Kushner has cultivated with MBS, NYT reports.
President Trump said during an interview on Thursday that the allegations that the prince ordered the killing raised questions about the American alliance with Saudi Arabia.
Trump Says He Believes Khashoggi Is Dead

Wonder if Pompeo gave a wink and nod on what intelligence they have during his KSA jaunt, so Saudis could get more 'believable' cover story sorted?

Critics of Saudi Arabia are concerned Trump is allowing the Saudis to come up with a cover story that will clear Saudi leadership of any responsibility.'

You are far more educated in that area of law than I, Across. So that teeny RICO straw I was clinging to is crumbling to dust in my fingers. Sad

Gumpendorf · 19/10/2018 17:48

I'm not sure of where politico stand but they do seem to throwing a lot cold water over many topics atm.

It's always been said that Mueller is a Republican and a patriot. He went to Vietnam and brought down the mob. He's been one step ahead all the way. I doubt he will want to shake the foundations of the Republic but doubt he'll be party to a cover up either, or let criminal behaviour go unpunished.

Gumpendorf · 19/10/2018 17:50

Agreed and thanks for your insight Across. I'll adjust my expectations accordingly.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/10/2018 18:03

'taking' should be 'tsking'.
