AIBU to be livid how dolphins are portrayed compared to how they are?

I am angry and sick and tired of how dolphins try and make out they are nice and friendly and cute when they are anything but. They are one of the most aggressive species in the animal kingdom, regularly involved in GANG RAPES of other dolphins that sometimes goes on for days, they also kill their OWN children so that the mother pays more attention to her husband dolphin so he can have sex with her without her being distracted by her child and they also are aggressive to humans when nobody is looking (I.e in the sea when nobody is around, not when they have an audience like at a sea world centre) But everyone says “aww dolphins are so cute and so friendly” but their not.

I think it’s because they look like they are always smiling and laughing that people think they are cute, but to me they look like they have evil eyes and cackling rather than laughing. People say alligators and crocodiles and snakes are evil what about dolphins? People only see the tame ones that like to show off to humans and do tricks and let us swim with them and stroke them and think all dolphins are like that but the ones in the wild are a different matter altogether.

Plus, people say that dolphins are clever because they use clicks to communicate with each other. Has nobody stopped to think that they may be clicking and conspiring amongst themselves?

I’m actually fuming, only because I just got back from someone showing holiday pics and they were going on and on about the dolphins and how they were so cute and I told them dolphins aren’t cute and they are dangerous and would they swim with and pet crocodiles? They Didn’t get why it was the same but any animal can turn against you and I have even saw footage of a dolphin purposely try to drown a human and drag them underwater. AND they also kill other sea baby animals and play volleyball with them, they don’t even eat them or are threatened by them, they just do it for a laugh. Why are they seen as friendly animals?

I'm with you OP. Dolphins are sneaky vindictive bastards and extremely sadistic animals.

And while we're at it why do lions/tigers/ other big cats have a reputation for being mean and scary. They're just big cuddly smooshes and I bet they are so well mannered and polite.

wineandwhine · 07/10/2018 17:13

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Conniving little bastards Grin

Lweji · 07/10/2018 17:17

And snails. They thrown darts at eachother, FFS. Well, they see who manages to hit with the first dart. Cupid eat your heart out.

picklemepopcorn · 07/10/2018 17:17

To those arguing against anthropomorphism and saying, but nature...

What about all the species where courtship rituals are highly developed, and they all play within the rules of that particular ritual? When they don't, surely they are transgressing? Effectively it is indeed rape if the males don't go through the whole courtship ritual until the female acquiesces?

ChicagoLil · 07/10/2018 17:25

Did the dolphins, what about mushrooms??

There is a type of mushroom that preys on ants. They drop spores in the ants' heads which sends them mad. The ants climb up trees, the ants' heads explode which then releases more spores and the ants die. Murderous bloody mushrooms.

Lweji · 07/10/2018 17:27

This is why cows and other herd animals choose only one fit male who can keep other males at bay. This way they only need to mate once for each baby and not deal with a lot of unwanted attention themselves.

We should bring back harems.

ChicagoLil · 07/10/2018 17:28

Cordyceps. If you don't believe me.

.

It's narrated by David Attenborough.

LadyOdd · 07/10/2018 17:29

They also rape and kill porpoises and then have sex with the dead body...then play with it. Ducks also gang rape. I think people put too much human emotions on animals they all do what we consider vile things but then they are animals not people. P.s cat dicks have barbs and tear the queens vagina.

HerRoyalFattyness · 07/10/2018 17:30

picklemepopcorn

Its still not rape. Rape is a human thing.

Its sexual coercion in the animal world. You can say its like rape, but it isn't actually rape.

Gosh, I'm off on holiday tomorrow and am meant to be going out on a dolphin watching boat later in the week. I was looking forward to it, now I'm bloody terrified!!

Keep your cool and watch them closely Sera22.Envy

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/10/2018 17:39

Pandas as very manipulative

There are so rarely seen in the wild but throughout history they have been reported to wonder into villages when they are poorly as they seem to know that humans will help them which of course they do

And then bugger off with a thank you Hmm

I know that chicago, seen it before on TV. The surviving ants carry the infected one as far from the ant colony as fast as they can so when their heads explode, hopefully they don’t get any poison(?) on them. I like ants. They are very underappreciated while dolphins are fawned over for wrong reasons

This needs to go in Classics.

I reckon THE most evil creature has got to be wasps. All they do is try to steal your food and if you don’t like it then they stab you with their pointy arses.

ButchyRestingFace · 07/10/2018 17:52

I can vouch for budgies being total rapists, @Otherwize. 🐤

No human thumb is safe.

Thatstheendofmytether · 07/10/2018 18:01

Well dolphins are in the same family as orcas. They hunt in packs, they play with their prey, they kill just because they can. So YANBU. Perhaps slightly worked up about it but not unreasonable.

Lweji · 07/10/2018 18:06

I'm guessing they don't "play" with their prey, pre or after killing. I bet they are just massaging the muscles and breaking the bones to make it easier to eat.

Lweji · 07/10/2018 18:09

Speaking of evil dolphins:

ThursdaysChildHasFarToGo · 07/10/2018 18:09

I could never trust one after knowing what one did to Homer Simpson...

MissyMoooo · 07/10/2018 18:12

That's probably got something to do with the fact that they're in captivity. They have been stolen away from their family and made to perform for humans. No wonder they're pissed off!! If you swim with dolphins in the wild you'll find they are actually beautiful intelligent creatures!

Orlandointhewilderness · 07/10/2018 18:16

with you 100% OP. Never trusted the buggers.

WomanWithAltitude · 07/10/2018 18:18

In with you OP... sneaky slimy bastards, looking like butter wouldn't melt but actually nasty violent fuckers. Grin

This thread has opened my eyes about ducks though. I had no idea they were evil! Shock

when on holiday in the caribian, the diving instructor was terrified of dolphins.
big shark circling us - stay calm
dolphin in sight - get out of the water as fast as you can
