AIBU to be livid how dolphins are portrayed compared to how they are?

I am angry and sick and tired of how dolphins try and make out they are nice and friendly and cute when they are anything but. They are one of the most aggressive species in the animal kingdom, regularly involved in GANG RAPES of other dolphins that sometimes goes on for days, they also kill their OWN children so that the mother pays more attention to her husband dolphin so he can have sex with her without her being distracted by her child and they also are aggressive to humans when nobody is looking (I.e in the sea when nobody is around, not when they have an audience like at a sea world centre) But everyone says “aww dolphins are so cute and so friendly” but their not.

I think it’s because they look like they are always smiling and laughing that people think they are cute, but to me they look like they have evil eyes and cackling rather than laughing. People say alligators and crocodiles and snakes are evil what about dolphins? People only see the tame ones that like to show off to humans and do tricks and let us swim with them and stroke them and think all dolphins are like that but the ones in the wild are a different matter altogether.

Plus, people say that dolphins are clever because they use clicks to communicate with each other. Has nobody stopped to think that they may be clicking and conspiring amongst themselves?

I’m actually fuming, only because I just got back from someone showing holiday pics and they were going on and on about the dolphins and how they were so cute and I told them dolphins aren’t cute and they are dangerous and would they swim with and pet crocodiles? They Didn’t get why it was the same but any animal can turn against you and I have even saw footage of a dolphin purposely try to drown a human and drag them underwater. AND they also kill other sea baby animals and play volleyball with them, they don’t even eat them or are threatened by them, they just do it for a laugh. Why are they seen as friendly animals?

WTF - why did you resurrect a thread from 6 years ago and then declare it a Zombie?

Are you smoking crack?

I wonder if those dolphins are still an issue for her?

SandandSky · 19/05/2025 15:55

It’s to cover up the fact that so many Dolphins are government special agents. You want them to be who you’d least expect.

KeepScrapingBy · 19/05/2025 16:07

They’re animals but you’re judging them by human standards. They don’t have to be “cute” just to please humans. In fact they have been treated cruelly for human entertainment, they should be allowed to behave naturally even though that appears distasteful to some people.

If you Google 'Are dolphins dangerous?',you will see that what the OP says is generally correct. Although dolphins are not renowned for being aggressive to humans,it is not unheard of. They are an apex ocean predator, capable of (in a group) overpowering a shark. They can be aggressive to humans if startled. It is not generally recommended that humans swim with dolphins,on the contrary,it says that if you are swimming in the sea and a dolphin approaches you,you should not try to interact with it,but to give it space and move slowly away from it. It's their happy, smiling faces that fools everyone!

Think yourself lucky. Where I live you can't even go shopping in town without being menaced by gangs of fluffy baby seals. They may look cute, but they are lethal if they catch you alone.

I responded then tried to delete it. That was supposed to be my deletion reason. To be fair I was drinking 😁 and we were talking about this.

People love to take the piss but yes, if you work in the animal training industry (as I do)... dolphins are well known to be cunty bastards and some kinds (bottlenose) more cunty than others.

Most attacks (attempted rapes - yes male dolphins have on numerous occasions tried to rape humans - bite attacks, attempted drownings etc) occur at captive dolpin centres though, and these are HUGELY covered up and played down wherever possible as its bad PR and highlights the huge welfare issues that such businesses have.

Young male bottlenose dolphins will kidnap smaller dolphins, same sex, opposite sex, not even the same species ... and gang rape it.

They are predators, and the ultimate hedonist, they do what feels good to them and they do not have some magical tendancy towards empathy any more than any other creature. People somehow expect them to be nicer and kinder than humans - they are not, why would they be.

It is a bit odd to get really enraged about it though. I figure people who put themselves at risk to annoy dolphins will probably get whats coming. Dolphins in the wild are unlikely to actually attack people UNLESS people have meddled and taught them that humans are playthings.

Ah ffs. Got by a Zombie thread. Bet Ive already posted on it too. SHouldn't multitask when Im at work.

OonaStubbs · 22/08/2025 19:21

Sharks are actually far nicer than Dolphins but there hadn't been a movie like Jaws that portrays Dolphins as the nasty bastards that they truly are.
