Aibu for thinking I'll be too old?

To have a second child?

Due to work I can't ttc until August next year by which point I'll be nearly 35 and dp will be 37.

If it happens in the first month again I'll be 36 when I give birth and my DP will be 38. His oldest child will be 16.

Is this too old?

I had a ds at 37 and one at 43.

Helbelle75 · 29/09/2018 21:23

I was 42 when I had our first, trying for our 2nd at age 43.
Very much depends on your personal circumstances, health and lots of other factors I think. Age isn't the only one.

AlliKaneErikson · 29/09/2018 21:24

In think you probably know the answer (it’s no!).

aManForAllReasons · 29/09/2018 21:24

Nope. I'm 53, DW is 42 & we have a 6 yo. Go for it and good luck.

Thehop · 29/09/2018 21:24

Nope not at all, we were older, as are many. Go for it if you’re fit and we’ll x

SomeKnobend · 29/09/2018 21:25

It's not too old in general. Lots of parents have kids at that age. Is there a reason you feel that age is a cut-off?

Gillian1980 · 29/09/2018 21:25

I’m 6 weeks pregnant.... I’m 38 and DH is 42. We’ll be 39 & 43 when dc2 is born.

We were 35 and 39 when dc1 was born.

Totally fine 😊

notangelinajolie · 29/09/2018 21:25

Don't leave it too long. Menopause at 37 stopped me.

FilledSoda · 29/09/2018 21:26

If you think so then yes , everyone has their own timetable for these things

KathyBates · 29/09/2018 21:28

Noooo, I just had my first baby age 35, hoping to have another one in a couple of years :0)

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 29/09/2018 21:28

It depends on your personal circumstances; there's no rigid age where suddenly you ought to not try for a baby.

For me that would be too late. For you, if it fits with your family and work and situation, go for it.

Lucked · 29/09/2018 21:29

Not too old, I had my first at 35 by choice, been with DH since I was 21 but always felt too young for kids.

surferjet · 29/09/2018 21:30

No way too old. I had ds at 37.

GrandTheftWalrus · 29/09/2018 21:42

I think it's because when my mum had me she was classed as elderly mother even tho she was 26 when I born.

I was 32 when I had my first.

I had many many years with my ex husband when we were told we couldn't have children so to have DD with my DP was amazing and I still find it difficult to believe.

I don't think it's going to happen again tbh. And if it does I'm terrified I won't love a second child as much as I love DD. How can I spread my love?

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 29/09/2018 21:45

No I'm 35 and Just had my second ds and definitely don't feel too old!! Go for it!!

ShalomJackie · 29/09/2018 21:48

I had my youngest and 2nd when I was 37. He is now 17 and keeps me young!

Katedotness1963 · 29/09/2018 21:52

I had my first at 36 and my second at 38. Not too old!

CandyflossKing · 29/09/2018 21:54

You don't spread your love you grow more! Definitely not too old!

Italiangreyhound · 29/09/2018 21:58

You will not be too old but why wait, if this is what you want? (You are welcome to tell me to butt out!)

Allegorical · 29/09/2018 22:00

No I had my third at the same age you describe but if you really want a second I wouldn’t wait to try because of work especially if you know you have had difficulty conceiving in the past.

My first was much longed and waited for (rainbow baby) and I worried I wouldn’t love my second as much and I can tell you I love her just as much. Your love just expands. Took me a little longer to bond but I think that was more to do with different birth experiences. I didn’t worry about loving my third. I knew I would adore him too.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2018 22:00

Of course you aren't too old. In what way does work interfere with TTCing? Do you really have to wait?

wentmadinthecountry · 29/09/2018 22:00

dc1 at 29, dc4 at 39

Agree with others though - if you're bothered , why wait?

JuteBag · 29/09/2018 22:01

Why on earth would you not have a child in your late 30s because of your mother being considered ‘elderly’ (by whom?) at 26?

OrdinarySnowflake · 29/09/2018 22:02

nope. Not too old. I do find these threads odd, if you can have a baby, then you aren't too old! I can see why you might worry about length of age gaps between DCs or if your DP was significantly older than you (like a Rolling Stone type dad at 70!) but at close age between you and only a 4 year age gap between DCs, nope, not too old at all!

flapjackfairy · 29/09/2018 22:06

I had my 3rd at 36 and adopted a 3 year old at the age of 53 .So no you are not too old !
