Stormy Daniels' book launch has pretty much been overshadowed by other events this week, but she's on BBC Newsnight tonight.

"Unless he's had a penis transplant, then I'm pretty sure that's a checkmate."
TONIGHT, Stormy Daniels tells @maitlis why she decided to “kiss and tell”.
Pres Trump denies the affair with Daniels, but admitted she was paid hush money.

I will be dead of old age before he's off the court.

Who knows? Maybe he'll boof himself to death or explode with rage at some point.
I bet on Ruth playfully pushing some buttons.

lionheart · 05/10/2018 18:44

There is the impeachment thing too.

Gumpendorf · 05/10/2018 20:12

Collins is speaking.... my heart is in my mouth but it sounds like she's building to a yes.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/10/2018 20:25

Collins is (in)famous for saying 'no' but voting 'yes'. I don't believe anything she hints at.

Gumpendorf · 05/10/2018 20:26

Senator Collins is all in for Kavanaugh. It’s not just a yes, she’s extolling his virtues & claiming he won’t end ACA or rule in favor of Trump & against the rule of law. I wonder how she’ll praise his integrity & temperament.

I heartily apologise to Lisa Murkovski. She has a soul and a conscience. Sadly, Collins has neither. She is Borg. Justice Dilly Dilly will piss all over her.

Gumpendorf · 05/10/2018 20:41

Not this time Across Not this time 😢

Her comments on Ford were appalling and unnecessary.

Gumpendorf · 05/10/2018 20:43

The crowdfunding campaign for Collins' opponent skyrocketing in the past couple minutes. Now over $2 million. Over 50,000 people have donated "$20.20"

Listening to that, I'm staggered that she was even seen as a likely no. Kavanaugh as perfection was the message.

And I'm fed up with people saying Dr Ford was assaulted but not by Kavanaugh. Bollocks!

I hope she is unseated in 2020.

Manchin is also a Yes - bastard!

Apologies for the language. Roe v Wade happened when my feminism was being formed. It wasn't until Trump was elected that I realised how powerfully it had influenced me. I'm a bystander but I'm very sad this evening. 😢

Gumpendorf · 05/10/2018 21:06

It is worth pondering that if this doesn't make a difference—and good money says it won't—2 of the 9 justices of the US Supreme Court will have been credibly accused of serious sexual misconduct and confirmed anyway. That is quite a statement to the women of this county.

"It takes character to vote against the way the wind is blowing back home."

@HardballChris on Sen. Heitkamp's decision to vote 'no' on Kavanaugh

👏👏 for Heidi Heitkamp and also if she follows through Lisa Murkowski. People with guts and principles.

Laquan was shot 16 times, from a distance. He had a knife.

A wild scene outside Joe Manchin’s office, a raucous group of protestors shouting at him while we questioned him about his vote, which he defended while claiming he wasn’t influenced by Collins and said he believed Christine Blasey Ford but didn’t know if Kavanaugh did it

'The Social Meaning of Confirming Kavanaugh is Inescapable'
Many Americans would now rejoice that a judge in Trump’s image could rule from the Court. Many other Americans will forever fear how a person like that may decide cases that involve groups or interests Kavanaugh perceives as associated with “outside left-wing opposition groups.” And these Americans must now fear whatever is behind Kavanaugh’s veiled threat of "what goes around comes around.” (Notice those Kavanaugh quotes come from his prepared remarks.) In short, many Americans were horrified by the display, and others were gleeful by what they saw. That is why confirming Kavanaugh would so seriously undermine the role of the Court in our society.,

I now can't help wondering whether the emphasis on Dr Ford's testimony and what happened at the party has made it possible for the swing senators to confirm with a clear conscience. Because all the focus switched to that, everyone seems to have taken their eye off the actual ball (which is whether Kavanaugh is a suitable candidate for the judiciary). Now people like Collins can point to the FBI report as evidence that the case isn't proven and say that therefore K should be confirmed ... it's allowed these senators to duck their real responsibilities because of the red herring of putting K "on trial" (when he wasn't). Does that even make sense? I just can't shake the feeling that we've been outmanoeuvred here - if the Republicans have supposedly given the Dems everything they asked for (hearing for Dr Ford, FBI investigation), then they can point to that as evidence that they've been fair, even though this whole circus has been somewhat tangential to the real question of Kavanaugh's fitness for high office Sad

You have a point Mackerella.
It's simplistic in a way, been turned into a tribal thing, a personality thing
No surer way to obscure the truth.
It's a dominance thing, whose narrative will prevail?
It's certainly no longer about suitability for a high ranking post, according to established norms. Established norms are in flux, who gets to rewrite them?
