I guess you get what you vote for:
Kaitlan Collins
@kaitlancollins
Quite a graphic in today’s NYT — showing how a map of where China’s retaliatory tariffs threaten American jobs the most looks a whole lot like the one showing where Trump won in 2016. With Collins and Flake both satisfied with the investigation, it’s hard to see them voting against the nomination since that would be an obvious red flag to raise right now. Kavanaugh appears, at the moment, headed to the Supreme Court

I feel guilty too, as this a rather vicarious experience that pales against the depth anxiety and, in some, plain fear, for huge numbers the US.

Absolutely this. I'm always aware that my disgust, annoyance and frustration is nothing compared to what it must be to be in the US and seeing this unfold. ThanksGin for all the US posters and lurkers.

I do think the UK has an interest though, not just because the US has been the main player in the post War alliance for so long and now that balance of power is changing but also because the Brexiteers seem hell bent on following suit with the Bannon way.

As I've been typing, I had a WaPo newsflash that Flake and Collins were content with the FBI report and would be voting to confirm. No surprise but it's a dark day for women and I can't imagine how Christine Ford feels. A week really is a long time in politics. Angry

Gumpendorf · 04/10/2018 17:07

I really admire the US protest movement and the fact they never give in. Respect!

STOP SAYING 'IT'S OVER'!!!!

If we learned one thing from ACA fight (and the 2016 election) it's not "over" until the final vote.

KEEP CALLING:

Kevin Brady is chair of the House Ways & Means Committee. Single-handed, he could refute or confirm the NYT powerful accusations of tax fraud by Donald Trump. I think pro-Kavanaugh folks dumping on Flake are seriously underestimating how savvy a move that was. He basically neutered Ds' central talking point. If the FBI finds nothing new (as is likely), Collins, Murkowski, and Manchin are unquestionably more likely to vote yes.

2/ Turns out that on December 19, 2016, the day the Electoral College confirmed Trump's victory, one of the Internet Research Agency troll accounts tweeted this:

@gab1aldana · 19 Dec 2016 #ThingsYouCantIgnore a Russian plant as your next #POTUS

3/ And according to the estimable @DarrenLinvill of Clemson University, it was then retweeted by 26 other Russian accounts that same day. Just one more cheeky in-your-face from the Russians who took sides in the US election.

'Millennial Men And Women Are Divided On Race And Gender Issues, New Poll Finds
About a third of millennial men surveyed say they would prefer white political candidates, if everything else was equal.'
If everything else was equal, 37% of millennial men said they would prefer a male candidate, compared to 16% of women who said they’d prefer a woman; 59% of all millennials said a candidate’s gender, all else equal, doesn’t matter, including 68% of women.
About one-third of all millennial men (36%) said they would prefer a white political candidate, if all else was equal. Only 11% of women surveyed held that belief. That question also comes with a major partisan divide: 42% of Republicans said they’d prefer a white candidate, compared to 22% of Democrats. And while 51% of millennials said it wouldn’t matter to them if, all else being equal, a candidate was straight or LGBTQ, a slim majority of men (53%) said they’d prefer a heterosexual candidate.

From Daily Kos.
Slight difference to Judge Dilly Dilly's ctee testimony? Nah, the arsehole f'n lied about it:
The classmate said that “Brett Kavanaugh had made up a rhyme using the REE NATE pronunciation of Renate’s name” and sang it in the hallways on the way to class. He recalled the rhyme going, “REE NATE, REE NATE, if you want a date, can’t get one until late, and you wanna get laid, you can make it with REE NATE.” He said that, while he might not be remembering the rhyme word-for-word, “the substance is 100 percent accurate.” He added, “I thought that this was sickening at the time I heard it, and it left an indelible mark in my memory.”

Slight difference to Judge Dilly Dilly's ctee testimony? Nah, the arsehole f'n lied about it:
Appold, who is the James Hastings Nichols Professor of Reformation History at Princeton Theological Seminary, said that he first heard about the alleged incident involving Kavanaugh and Ramirez either the night it occurred or a day or two later. Appold said that he was “one-hundred-per-cent certain” that he was told that Kavanaugh was the male student who exposed himself to Ramirez.
