What a bunch- 12 of us including my 81 year old mother were due to fly on 11th august .
Minibus arranged and prepaid .
Car hire paid for
Villa paid for
03.30 text received ( taxi due to come at 8.30)
Yes holiday insurance did cover some of cost minus excess but not all can't bear to go into detail but easyJet have still not even refunded the price of the flights we did not take.
My mum didn't even come in the end.
I know they are supposed to be cheap but they are not that cheap flight one way was £150 each withou luggage which we also added.
They are holiday thieves and I feel vv angry I am posting this as I want to highlight to others the risks you take when you book with them

Hi, I’m sorry OP but I don’t understand what happened. Did they cancel your flight?

WhitefriarsDillyDuck · 15/09/2018 22:02

You will be eligible for EU621 compensation as well?

OwlinaTree · 15/09/2018 22:03

What happened, they cancelled the flights? Did they not offer another flight?

WanderingTrolley1 · 15/09/2018 22:04

More details would be good.

Justabouthadituptohere · 15/09/2018 22:05

That makes zero sense

FlamingoLass · 15/09/2018 22:07

Na, I don’t get it

MirandaWest · 15/09/2018 22:07

Was your flight cancelled? Did you get to fly later?

hobblesma · 15/09/2018 22:07

Erm. Ok.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 15/09/2018 22:09

I think you’ve missed out some key bits!

So your flight was cancelled? Have they offered you another one?

Glumglowworm · 15/09/2018 22:10

You’re missing the crucial part of the story which is what happened to stop you flying!

Did they cancel the flights? Or was it due to something happening in your family so you didn’t fly?

If you didn’t fly due to family circumstances then your insurance would be the one to refund you (depending on exactly what stopped you flying), I wouldn’t expect the airline to, especially at such short notice.

Aragog · 15/09/2018 22:11

Villa paid for
03.30 text received ( taxi due to come at 8.30)

I think you've missed some details out in between these bits.

What text? What happened?

Hard to judge without knowing what actually occurred.

ChangerChangerson · 15/09/2018 22:13

I think some text is missing from the OP. Can you fill in the blanks please.

Dapplegrey · 15/09/2018 22:16

YANBU.
We sat on the tarmac on an easyJet flight for 6 hours before being told the flight was cancelled.
We were going on holiday but some of the others I talked to had jobs on a cruise ship. If they didn't get there then no job and no wages.
There were a lot of families with young children.
In the terminal there were 3 people manning the inaccurately termed 'customer service' and queues for miles and miles.
We never got compensation.

hobblesma · 15/09/2018 22:18

dapple. I’m not here to defend easyJet but you have no idea if the OP is BU as they haven’t given any information. In your own case you omitted to give the reason for the cancellation. It may be easyJet’s vault, it may have been out of their control. Despite what people think, airlines don’t normally fuck people about like that without a reason.

Aragog · 15/09/2018 22:20

We never got compensation.

Compensation depends on the reason for the delay.
If it is to or from an EU airport, and the delay/cancellation is the fault of the airline, you re entitled to compensation, but you do have to apply for it yourself.

If its not because of their fault, then you need to claim costs through your own travel insurance, wherever possible.

Unfortunately delays and cancellations happen quite a lot, and with all airlines in my experience.

futilityutility · 15/09/2018 22:21

Sorry yes I realise I did miss that the text at 03.30 was to say the flight was cancelled.
In a way it was lucky I got the text because the other potential travellers did not get any info so would have travelled the two hours to Gatwick for a cancelled flight.
No other flight was offered.
Peak summer holidays soon other airlines had flights available until much later in the week so in effect holiday ruined

hobblesma · 15/09/2018 22:25

What’s the relevance of your 81yo mother in the OP?

What was the reason for the cancellation?

InspectorIkmen · 15/09/2018 22:28

I love EasyJet - never had any kind of problem with them. What have they said to you OP re getting refunds/compensation/explanations? You have been on to them I trust?

futilityutility · 15/09/2018 22:35

No reason has been given for the cancellation
Only mentioned the 81 year old as it meant she decided not to travel at all.
We were v lucky as we were able to arrange a train journey to our destination but because ithe journey was so long she couldn't face it.
I think my point is that they cancelled the flight less than 12 hours before we were due to travel, no alternative option was offered, no explanation was offered and so far no no refund for the flights has been received
12 people at 150 per person1800 we are lucky we could afford to make alternative arrangements.

Aragog · 15/09/2018 22:38

Can you set a compensation claim in place via the resolver site, and see if it gets the ball rolling at all?

cdtaylornats · 15/09/2018 22:38

Lots of every-bodies flights were cancelled because of bad weather in southern England and Northern France

hobblesma · 15/09/2018 22:47

No reason has been given for the cancellation

Did you not ask?

Sparklesocks · 15/09/2018 22:50

What happened when you called customer services?

futilityutility · 15/09/2018 22:52

We travel quite a lot
Never had an experience like this before perhaps we've been lucky
Feel quite sad my mum did not get a holiday possibly one of her last chances to travel abroad -travel insurance cannot compensate fir that or the wasted annual leave we booked
I do understand that weather etc can cause disruption but this was not the case as far as I can see all other flights went
The point is us we have still not even been refunded the original cost of our booking despite applying fir the refund and emailing the customer services

Why are you not covered by insurance?
