What a bunch- 12 of us including my 81 year old mother were due to fly on 11th august .
Minibus arranged and prepaid .
Car hire paid for
Villa paid for
03.30 text received ( taxi due to come at 8.30)
Yes holiday insurance did cover some of cost minus excess but not all can't bear to go into detail but easyJet have still not even refunded the price of the flights we did not take.
My mum didn't even come in the end.
I know they are supposed to be cheap but they are not that cheap flight one way was £150 each withou luggage which we also added.
They are holiday thieves and I feel vv angry I am posting this as I want to highlight to others the risks you take when you book with them

This can happen for many reasons, I'm not trying to defend EasyJet but considering the timescale it sounds like either a maintenance issue (overrun on scheduled work for instance) or strikes perhaps - there's been all kinds in Europe this summer. At short notice there isn't always a replacement plane and flights are pretty full in August. If you fly a lot you quickly realise things go wrong and even the most expensive airlines have issues! The fact they texted you actually was a lot better than often happens. Insurance is vital, and unless it's outside of their control you get compensation on top plus full refund.

futilityutility · 15/09/2018 23:14

We are covered by insurance but not for annual leave deciding not to travel and also the excess is 100£ pp
My mum decided not to claim as her insurance is already sky high as an elderly person
I think I just wanted to emphasise that easyJet gives a nice friendly persona in its advertising but in my experience they have been awful

Why would you be covered for annual leave?

Well they all do that don't they. Be stupid not to. But stuff does happen and of course it's always disappointing. I lost a birthday trip to the Maldives due to snow closures. It's shit but it happens. You don't sound like you've been very proactive at chasing them though

futilityutility · 15/09/2018 23:27

Hi there hobblesma.
Annual leave is v precious to us only get a limited amount a year
Pretty sure the same would apply to you if you work
Wasted several days
Tbh I'm not really interested in replying any longer
EasyJet were and continue to be awful still peeing us almost 2k
I'm leaving it at that

Text received about what?

Mascarponeandwine · 15/09/2018 23:33

Have you tried twitter? I found when applying for a refund for my dads delayed flight, that the customer service procedure for compensation was intentionally set up for you to fail and give up.
When I posted my complaint on twitter it got them moving pretty fast HmmSmile

superram · 15/09/2018 23:33

EasyJet cancelled my flight. 2.5 hours before departure time. Alternative offered no use. However, in line with eu rules we got a refund and £200 compensation and I am going to claim back my costs (was internal flight but train was ecoebsive). You still had the time off though to do something fun?

cherish123 · 15/09/2018 23:34

Surely the airline would refund you. We travelled BA and the flight was cancelled because of heavy snow. They refunded us in full. Otherwise, your insurance will cover it.

HeddaGarbled · 15/09/2018 23:35

Cancellations can happen with any airline. You were unlucky, and I’m sorry that you’re trip was spoilt, but you are unreasonable to assume that never flying EasyJet again will protect you from a repeat occurrence.

Living close to Luton, EasyJet is the airline I use most frequently and I have never had a cancelled flight with them, though I have with two other airlines.

‘Your’ not ‘you’re’!

What lots of people don’t realise about low cost airlines is that they run their aircraft to the max- there is no slack in their schedule as they eek every penny out of that giant piece of tin! More traditional airlines build in a bit of slack, so allow for planes going tech and breaking, or other schedule hiccups. Which means if they need a replacement aircraft they often have one around.
Not saying it works all the time but EJ or Ryanair will almost never have a spare 747 about the place, BA, SINGAPORE, United and delta will.
It’s one of the reasons they charge more.
Yanbu - I’ve had some appalling EJ experiences and now will only use them when I have to or when a delay or cancellation won’t break my heart!

hobblesma · 15/09/2018 23:52

Not almost never. Actually never. Neither Ryanair or easyJet have 747's Grin

@futulityutility
Apply for EU flight compensation - you will get a full refund but you have to apply for it - it’s very straightforward

QuitMoaning · 15/09/2018 23:59

I am flying EasyJet in about 6 hours......

To be fair, I have never had a problem with them. I usually have one return per year with EasyJet, one with RyanAir and one on a main carrier for work. Only ever had problems with RyanAir.

aperolspritzplease · 16/09/2018 00:04

I don't really understand your problem.

FWIW I flew easyJet to Cannes in July, flight home was cancelled due to air traffic strikes. Got a full refund and new flight.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 16/09/2018 00:07

But that is exactly what travel insurance is for. Shit happens every once in a while.
Easyjet are not responsible for your whole holiday, just the travel to it. Same as if trains are on strike, car broke down or ferry was cancelled. You would still lose leave, miss arranged a activities etc etc. That stuff of it is what having decent insurance covers.

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:09

Eh? I was asking questions, along with other posters, to try and work out why this happened Confused

ionising · 16/09/2018 08:57

Delta do not have a spare they legt us 26 hours over night stuck at a gate with no open shops, sleeping on the floor.

ionising · 16/09/2018 08:57

Spare aircraft, they left us 16

Grr typos

headstone · 16/09/2018 09:10

Avoid veuling as well. It is a terrible airline. Such a shame EJ couldn’t offer you another flight. It is really bad luck and I understand why you are annoyed. I don’t know if EJ are worse than other budget airlines for this though.

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 09:16

BA has pax stuck just the other day for over 20 hours after a diversion into a Canadian airport. It's a 5 hour flight from Heathrow.

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 09:17

head. It depends on the reason. Sometimes it's genuinely not the airlines fault. OP isn't wiling to share this information though.

ionising · 16/09/2018 09:19

I didn’t understand that either. Hmm
