DTs came home from PILs today with NAIL VARNISH on...

...and it wasn't their 5 yr old cousin that had put it on them it was their f*ing 58 yr old grandad they're only 3 I'm furious!

I don't really know why you are furious. I woudn't be overly impressed but it is easily removed and i bet the love it.

I've been putting nail varnish on dd1 since she was 2.

I can't see what the big deal here is. Maybe their grandad thought it might be FUN?!

When I've babysat my dh's three year old niece, I've put nail varnish on her nails(as well as my dd1), they both loved it, and it kept them occupied for at least 10 minutes.

in fact, dd1 now insists on putting the nail varnish on herself, now that is annoying. She paints it down to her knuckles.

I don't mind nailvarnish on littlies. Lipstick or eyeshadow, that is a different matter!

oh yes, I draw the line at dd1 painting dd2's nails!

DS2 yes DS2 loved having his nails painted when he was smaller, It comes off easily and we washed his hands well afterwards.

If it is something you are not happy with then asked your in laws not to do it again.

DD1 is 3 1/2 and loves to paint nails and wear sparkly lips (gloss).

all the 3 yr old girls I know love having their nails painted! And having my sparkle body dust stuff I used to wear back in the day I actually went 'out' brushed on - bless 'em! - they just want to be little princesses or fairies

I cannot understand why anyone would think a 3 yr old should wear nail varnish, there are so many other things to do that are fun at that age - nail varnish etc is for when they're older surely, can't quite believe how many people think its ok

a 58 year old grandad was entertaining his grandchildren. why is that so difficult for you to understand? it is pure and harmless fun. they got to have coloured nails just like mummies/aunties etc and interacted with a grownup. had a converstation with him. spent time with a loving grandparent. saw him do something that only girlies are supposed to do, thus ensuring they do not build up gender stereotypes. etc etc etc.
you need to calm down. take a few deep breaths and think about what you want your children to learn about life.
