Today nail varnish, tomorrow pierced ears and a navel ring. Yeuch.

LieselVentouse · 08/06/2007 11:13

What are we getting at here? 3yr olds who wear nail varnish are destined to be nothing more than prossies?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 08/06/2007 11:22

DD2 (3.7) loves wearing nail polish. It's bright yuck pink and washes off. She loves it - it's fun (she doesn't go to a salon and have a full on manicure!). I don't know why so much fuss. Chill out. Little girls have been putting on Mama's shoes and lippy since the year dot. They didn't all rush off to get their nipples pierced and stand on street corners, you know.

babygrand · 08/06/2007 11:24

I vote yes, you're unreasonable. It won't do any harm.

Caroline1852 · 08/06/2007 11:24

I think we are getting at the fact that there is plenty of time to experiment with make up/body adornment. A 3 year old would have much more fun with a few pots of crayola paint or doing some gardening.

Enid · 08/06/2007 11:25

I have promised to paint both dd1 and dd2's toenails for the summer

bright coral has been requested

Caroline1852 · 08/06/2007 11:26

To be honest though, I am just as worried about Grandpa - was it his nailvarnish?

WinkyWinkola · 08/06/2007 11:31

Unreasonable to be a bit annoyed - no. Nail varnish on little children is naff, tacky and makes me think of children's beauty pageants. But I guess it was just a bit of fun.. .. . ... .. ..

DeJager · 08/06/2007 11:43

It would not bother me...worse things could happen, nail varnish is not a "bad" thing
But I can understand it bothering some ppl, I mean...we all have different likes and dislikes. When we go see my sister, her daughter puts my son in dresses and sometimes adds fairywings, then we go shopping, that I can just handle!!!
I have told her off when it comes to make up, but I don't mind the dressing up. Some people would freak.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 08/06/2007 11:45

Oh dear, InAMuckingFuddle, no wonder you are InAMuckingFuddle.. you are obviously one of those people who gets their knickers in a knot over nowt.

You need something real to worry about clearly.

To be blunt, stop being so silly... and furious!

expatinscotland · 08/06/2007 11:45

so take it off.

NBD.

i've put it on my 3-year-old for a bit of fun.

nattyp · 08/06/2007 11:47

i wouldnt worry about it too much, just make a decision whether you like it or not, i let my two year olds wear it on their toes because i wear it and they obsessed witth all things pretty but i think you just need to decide one or the other,

mytwopenceworth · 08/06/2007 11:53

oh dear. i give my kids a make over when i'm bored.

my sons.

aged 6 and 8

a while back i painted their nails and realised i had no remover so they went to beevers parade the next day and then school the monday with pink nail varnish on.

am i to assume i dont win Mother of The Year trophy?

and that i'm not to be surprised if i come home one day when they are all grown up to find them decked out Pricilla Queen of the Desert style?

nattyp · 08/06/2007 11:58

hahahah loved your contribution about priscilla queen of the dessert, good to have a sense of humour

inamuckingfuddle · 08/06/2007 13:08

umm...have already said furious was the wrong word to use and that grandad has no idea how I feel about it, so not sure why this is still an issue for some.

Caroline1852 I had assumed it was their cousin's nail varnish, but now you mention it, FIL has been behaving a bit oddly recently...

I put pale nail varnish on my 4 year old dd's finger nails occasionally at her request when she's dressing up as a princess. I don't see the harm although I refuse to paint her toenails, that's just common.

motherinferior · 08/06/2007 13:14

We only do toes. I paint the Inferiorettes'. They prance about feeling chuffed. It is a rare moment of shared girlishness.

katelyle · 08/06/2007 13:20

I think he sounds like a lovely grandad! Imagine the fun they must have been having together!

nattyp · 08/06/2007 13:22

i only do toes too that way not many people see them so you dont get other peoples opinions and the nursery might not approve

ledodgy · 08/06/2007 13:23

Ahh you see I do fingers so I remember to take it off again if i did toes i'd forget then when she has gym in preschool they'd see it.

nattyp · 08/06/2007 13:25

good thinking

motherinferior · 08/06/2007 13:25

I leave it on. Does no harm to man or beast. Painted toes, that's all. Wouldn't occur to me to remove it.

ledodgy · 08/06/2007 13:28

DD isn't allowed to wear it at pre school hence the removal.

Lazycow · 08/06/2007 13:28

oh dear. Not nail varnish yet but I've already let ds (2.5 years old) play with a box of my old make-up. I couldn't believe how quiet it kept him. I have rarly had 40 mins of such peace without resorting to the TV since he was born. He was absolutley entranced with it and ended up with what looked like a mask on his face.

He is similarly enthralled with having his face painted and having his hair cut. He will sit still for these activities for ages and will often wait patiently in the queue for ages for these things. For most other things he is a nightmare to keep still. I must give the nail varnish a go too - though I will be doing that myself !!!

Oblomov · 08/06/2007 13:29

Wish ds had a granddad like that. Or any granddad at all. I'd let ds wear nairvarnish aswell, just as a one off. Can't see the harm.
