Car parking costs at work out of control

Notmorewashing · 29/08/2018 20:20

Parking at work now costs us £3.10 per day. If we park in free public carpark it adds 45mins to journey time. Would you just pay up to save a bit more time on commute and kids dinner rush Hell??

Don’t suppose you can car share with anyone and split the cost?

lillylollylandy · 29/08/2018 20:22

Hmm. How much does it cost in terms of petrol to drive to work every day? I pay £8 per day for public transport so £3.10 seems cheap as chips to me, tbh.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 29/08/2018 20:22

How long is your commute already?

How is the car park run? Is it a private firm or through the work? Can you get passes as an employee? So much info needed.

hidinginthenightgarden · 29/08/2018 20:22

I would probably pay. Do you work in a public place? Could you see if there is an option to pay for a years permit for a bit less?

Pecano · 29/08/2018 20:23

I would probably pay £3.10 to save an extra 45 minutes, but I am quite lazy!
I take it there’s no scope for you to claim part of the money back as work expenses?

Notmorewashing · 29/08/2018 20:23

Private parking, no discount from work.
Daily petrol is about £7 ontop.
No one to car share with :(

That’s a bargain! Yes, of course I’d pay it. Mine works out about double that (and is the cheapest in the area - there was a waiting list).

sorryihaventacluetoo · 29/08/2018 20:24

My daily travelcard to work was £8. YABU to expect to be able to park your car for free.

AnnieOH1 · 29/08/2018 20:25

See if you can contact the car park's owners. They may be willing to negotiate a season ticket, particularly if you can approach them as your company. That said £3.10 a day is cheap as chips! Is there no on street parking available?

DontTouchTheMoustache · 29/08/2018 20:25

I pay 4.50 per day, its shit but such is life. Can you get a season ticket to make it cheaper?

sorryihaventacluetoo · 29/08/2018 20:25

£3.10 a day is really cheap tbh

lavendersunflowers · 29/08/2018 20:26

Are you a nurse, by any chance? Sad

Hidillyho · 29/08/2018 20:27

Seems expensive to me but it’ll depend on the area.
London I suppose it’s cheap.
I’m guessing there is no option to get a permit?

nokidshere · 29/08/2018 20:28

Dh pays over 8 quid a day so 3.20 seems quite reasonable

SilverHairedCat · 29/08/2018 20:28

£3.10 is a bargain for most places and all day parking. We have to pay £8 for Plymouth city centre for a full day. We're hardly the most cosmopolitan area!

kaytee87 · 29/08/2018 20:29

£3.10 per day doesn't really seem out of control to me.
Any way you can get public transport?

Lazypuppy · 29/08/2018 20:29

£7 petrol a day seems so high, how long is your commute? £10 lasts me about a week commuting to/from work

FrogFairy · 29/08/2018 20:30

Could five of you lift share just from the public free dark to work. Then it would cost you £3.10 each per week. This assumes a five day week with you all working the same hours of course.

ihoppancake · 29/08/2018 20:30

It's £7 a day to park at my work so £3.10 sounds like a good deal to me!

maZebraltov · 29/08/2018 20:31

Check Liftshare & similar websites, maybe someone you can share with on there.

jelliebelly · 29/08/2018 20:31

Wish mine was only £3.10 - I'd pay it for the convenience

Bestseller · 29/08/2018 20:31

I agree with the others £3.10 is cheap here too. £10 for anything close. £6/7 for a 15 min walk, at least 30 mins for anything free. I do the 15 min walk

£10.10 per day for travel is not exactly cheap as chips maybe if you are on a high salary!!
