Has anyone else just watched Loose Women/Kim Woodburn’s outburst?

What happened to Carol Mcgiffin? I was pleased when she returned but I haven't seen her since. Carol, Jane Moore and Kaye Adams are decent panellists IMO. I'd like to see them all together with someone new like Janet Ellis who is lovely and mainly does The Wright Stuff I think.

MrsJayy · 31/08/2018 10:44

I think she just handed her notice in I don't think there was any drama or quitting flounce, she also has had cancer recently

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 10:45

One thing this does highlight is the amateurishness of U.K. tv. If this were the States (I have experience of working in media there) the presenters would have a professional team to swoop in, advise, pick up pieces.

Here that team is either non existent or has no control over the Nolan Gang who are digging themselves in deeper with the sons having free reign on the internet (and they’re not exactly a polished showbiz family who can do it alone) and Colleen Nolan’s Twitter team (more family members? Certainly amateurs) going ahead and tweeting crap about an announcement next week (jungle or something) as they had planned before it all kicked off with no comprehension of how that looks!

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 10:53

The difference is, they don’t think “Oh shit, if anything happens to Kim during this window we will be blamed and sued, better do the grovelling apology with heartfelt caring to get the public back onside”, they think “It’s not my bloody fault, who can I blame? Oh I know, I’ll say I wasn't keen to do it anyway...”.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 31/08/2018 10:53

They're deflecting now on This Morning with the Stacey Solomon negative magazine stuff , roping in Eamonn & Ruth, even Holly & Phil. All of a sudden this is news? That mags focus on that stuff? Didn't see Judy ever bringing it up and she gets a regular media beating.

Desperate deflection tactics ITV and I'm disappointed in Ruth.

Aprilsinparis · 31/08/2018 11:01

Totally agree withobviously perfect I think certain people only offered an opinion when they thought it would get a thumbs up from the audience. I felt sorry for Kim, she obviously has some serious issues. It was very uncomfortable viewing.

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 11:06

They are all thinking “That could be me” because they know they do stuff for ratings and lose sight of what is human, and “Let’s jump on this bandwagon before it runs us over”.

There is an increasingly mistaken idea that people forget, “yesterday’s chip paper” and all that, it’s been said on this thread by a poster in the night. But the internet changed all that, it has a longer memory. Type a name in and you get the stories, so you’d better make sure the first page or two of those stories are the image you want to convey.

Roussette · 31/08/2018 11:07

Surely the twat of a son is not going to be on LW today defending his mother? Someone upthread said he was?

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 11:16

What the Nolans are doing is not thinking of the image those first 50 google hits throws up, they are just mad and want to get even. Immature and amateur and just shows you that a lifetime in the business doesn’t make you savvy. They are coming across as thugs.

The news being raked up about Colleen publicising the fact she wants to get a prostitute for the son who couldn’t get laid and Linda Nolan’s benefit cheat story (and blaming mh issues for that 🙄) doesn’t help! I was overseas and didn’t know of any of that. I do now.

🤭😀

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 11:28

OK, well quite clearly the LW producers are seriously at fault here for setting up this whole thing. No one comes out of this looking good.

But, seeing as they did set it up, and both Kim and Coleen (and the panel) agreed to go along with it, how do people think it should/could have panned out? Kim was clearly rattled and feeling very negative towards Coleen from the start. How should Coleen have responded, and what should she have said and done when Kim started name-calling and ranting? (We know what she shouldn't have done. I'm asking what she should have done).

Roussette · 31/08/2018 11:30

Exactly obviously. It rakes it all up again. Mind you, how Linda got away with forgetting to declare earnings (saying she didn't know she had to!) for years and years and receiving £12,000 in benefits wrongly... then getting off with a caution, I do not know!

FoxFoxSierra · 31/08/2018 11:33

I've just watched the clip on YouTube to see what all the fuss was about and I don't think anyone came out of that well! I never watch that shit show anyway and I definitely will not start now. It looked to me like it was completely set up to goad KW into that reaction, she obviously has a reputation for being confrontational so there is no way the producers didn't know she would kick off. The other Nolan sister was a grade A bitch the whole way through and I think that's what tipped KW over the edge. I hope she's ok, I agree that she doesn't seem well

Roussette · 31/08/2018 11:34

OhDear What I think they should have done is....

gently talk to her one at a time. Not all pile in when she came on.

CN should've fulfilled her promise of speaking first which is what so say was agreed with KW. She didn't. She just sat there. She's meant to be the panellist, why wouldn't she speak?

JSP should have taken off her judge's robes and put down the gavel

LindaR should have answered the question that KW asked about CN teling her she was two faced about the situation. She didn't. She prevaricated and that made it a lot worse.

Also, despite Producers steering the whole programme, CN could have refused to do the programme.

catherinedevalois · 31/08/2018 11:35

The set up should have been managed by the 'judge'! Otherwise what was the point of the dressing up etc.

Roussette · 31/08/2018 11:37

I don't think there should have been a judge. If I came on because of a difficult situation and suddenly there was a judge with a gavel, and the Exorcist was playing, I think my hackles would be rising. The programme wanted and expected confrontation.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 11:38

I think JSP was trying to manage the situation, but she was struggling to make herself heard over everyone talking at once. And Kim is quite hard to interrupt once she gets going!

NoelHeadbands · 31/08/2018 11:43

Well CN was actually the host panellist that day, so she could have

Asked the so called ‘nice’ one, Linda Robson to back off rather than lead the way on the offensive, the way she did.

Told her sister to pipe down with the insults

Realised how twattish the whole thing looked with that JOKE ,JSP dressed up as a judge and therefore...

Sat there and let KW rant on. She’d have come out of it having lost no moral high ground.

The fact that as the host she did none of this, shows how unprofessional and unpleasant she is. Having said that, she shouldn’t be the one to take all the flack, everyone involved in that shitshow should be ashamed.

MrsJayy · 31/08/2018 11:46

Yeah nobody came out of it looking great maybe Itv should re consider what they want LW to be a chatty show aimed at women or a bitchfest setting women against women

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 11:48

How should Coleen have responded

As it looks like she’s hoping to do some future work very much in the public eye (according to misguided overnight tweet) the team I worked with would probably have advised her to be humble and do the soundbite apology with sister there to say “Oh but Colleen it wasn’t all you blah blah” just in case some of the public needed a push in the right direction. She needed a quick fix and should have sucked it up. She had the perfect opportunity!

If she had apologised for her part, this would have not only dampened the “She’s a bully” stuff for whatever this future work is, but also, if Kim Woodburn had reacted with a “See she’s admitted it!” when Colleen was being humble, Kim would now be the villain despite mh issues.

As an aside, if Colleen’s misguidedexciting” tweet is a panto or something crass, it’s going to look so cheap when they announce it 😂

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 31/08/2018 11:49

OhDearGod ..is that you JSP? Grin

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 12:14

I thought that the main host sat at the far left? Wondered why Linda Nolan was there, as she's rarely on the panel at all. Who introduced the show?
(can't believe I'm even asking that, actually. I really cannot stand the programme. It used to be watchable when it first started and Kaye Adams was the regular anchor, but now it's just dummed-down trite shit, trying to appeal to the lowest denominator.)

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 12:17

Hmm. Interesting. Just seen that they've wheeled out Kaye Adams for today's show.

obviouslyperfect · 31/08/2018 12:17

JSP wasn’t managing the situation, you could practically see the ratings figures going through her head when the audience were reacting to Colleen’s nastiness, as her partisan comment to Colleen (paraphrasing) “Let’s stop with the insults just for a minute, let her speak” showed. She knew it would look bad if they just threw insults but she was salivating to get back to the fight and hear the audience approval as soon as Kim had had her say. She may have been directed to do this, don’t know. She should have known better, I think the adrenaline got to her.

People like that panel shouldn’t do live tv! But with nothing at stake apart from their own careers and a second rate programme, no one really cares whether they hang themselves.

Aspenfrost · 31/08/2018 12:19

Kaye Adams was/is a journalist. I imagine that makes a difference to the quality of her responses. Or maybe not.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 12:29

So was Janet Street-Porter.
