To feel that there's something immoral about Cow Pie?

We ate out last night, and almost everyone in our group ordered a half-portion of Cow Pie. A delicious pie, handmade with local beef.

But a half-portion is made with half a kilo of beef. The amount I would put in a pie to serve four people.

It makes me feel very uncomfortable.

(And no, not uncomfortable in the sense of indigestion. I ordered a different dish.)

Portion overload!

Maybe the chef is from the USA?

WellErrr · 23/08/2018 14:25

This is why people are fat nowadays.

BrutusMcDogface · 23/08/2018 14:26

Do they have the rights to cow pie from desperate dan?

Confusedbeetle · 23/08/2018 14:26

I have noticed that UK portions are so much bigger than european. We seem to be becoming greedy eaters. Quantity over quality. Look around any uk eatery, how people get through the amounts amazes me

SilkeOvesen · 23/08/2018 14:27

I don't know about immoral (I don't really see how this would relate to quantities) but it's certainly unhealthy. Why on earth would you want to overload your body with so much protein in one go?

Yuck.

Auldspinster · 23/08/2018 14:27

Were you dining with Desperate Dan?

Skiiltan · 23/08/2018 14:28

If it didn't have horns sticking out of it and a tail dangling down the side it wasn't a cow pie. What would Aunt Aggie think?

sonlypuppyfat · 23/08/2018 14:30

Immoral is a very strange word to use. Appetites are different aren't they , my son works stacking in a warehouse and trains in a gym everyday I'm sure he eats more than a slim woman sitting on her arse all day

ADastardlyThing · 23/08/2018 14:35

Seems a bit greedy but as a one off I dont see any issue at all. Yabu

Golde · 23/08/2018 14:35

No different to a 32oz steak or a massive pile of chicken wings

Neshoma · 23/08/2018 14:45

Cow pie?

JellySlice · 23/08/2018 14:50

Naturally, different people have different needs, but does anyone really need this much animal protein in one meal? Even when dh finishes an ultra-marathon, and needs protein for recovery, he doesn't eat half a kilo of meat at one meal.

Meat is a luxury. This feels like entitlement, like abuse of a luxury. Greed.

RedneckStumpy · 23/08/2018 14:54

If it was too much, why didn’t you ask for a doggy bag and have the rest today?

Loonoon · 23/08/2018 14:55

I would serve a 32oz beef steak sliced like a roast for a Sunday dinner for 5/6 with Yorkshire’s etc. A half kilo of beef would be a stew or pie for 3/4 people.

The serving sizes in many places now are definitely wasteful but I think a lot of people (like my now deceased FIL) judge restaurants by the size of the servings rather than the quality of the food. His highest accolade was that a placed served up a ‘fine big feed’ and came from growing up poor and often hungry during the 1930s.

I very seldom order a main course now, just a starter and maybe a side dish. When that isn’t possible I will try and order something that can be easily bought home and reheated for breakfast the next day.

actualpuffins · 23/08/2018 14:56

You should see what happens if you order pastrami on rye in a NY deli.

AjasLipstick · 23/08/2018 14:56

YANBU it's fat people food.

actualpuffins · 23/08/2018 14:57

actualpuffins · 23/08/2018 14:58

Sorry for double posting, it didn't come up at first.

Nesssie · 23/08/2018 14:59

Meat is a luxury. This feels like entitlement, like abuse of a luxury. Greed. Then you do NOT want to watch me demolish a 8oz steak and half rack of ribs....

The amount of meat in a dish (that you didn't eat) made you uncomfortable? This might actually take the win for the most ridiculous thread.

actualpuffins · 23/08/2018 14:59

In good restaurants it's possible to eat three really well-balanced courses and feel nicely full.

gamerchick · 23/08/2018 15:00

Well you next time to share and have a quarter cow pie.

Iknowwhoyouare123 · 23/08/2018 15:00

It was a meal out, a treat.

Unclench.

Racecardriver · 23/08/2018 15:00

Um, well its a lot of food but your reasoning is a bit mental. Sugar is a luxury too, was it immoral for me to eat a whole packet of biscuits yesterday? No. Stupid and unhealthy but not immoral.

TheFaerieQueene · 23/08/2018 15:00

It is greed. I couldnt be friends with someone who is greedy. I find it really unpleasant.
A large percentage of humans on the planet don’t have enough to eat due to poverty/war/famine, whilst others eat like this. It makes me weep.

NaomiNagata · 23/08/2018 15:01

Maybe I'm being dumb... why is meat a luxury?

Do you mean because of price or because of the environmental impact?
