To think I can wear what I want in my own house?

New neighbours and I think they might be slightly mad.

Few weeks ago she complained about me and oldest dd being in the garden wearing bikinis ( not even teeny bikinis ) as she has a husband and a teenage son and they might see us. I tried hard to make sure if I was out there sunbathing I was away from her garden and moved the kids pool so it would be harder for them to be seen from their fence. ( - the only way they can see in to our garden is when on trampoline, their raised patio or looking out of upstairs window)

This morning I was cleaning kitchen in my pjs (vest and shorts so not revealing) dd was stood by open patio doors chatting to me in shorts and a crop top she sleeps in. Next thing mrs next door is banging on my front door telling me I'm continuing to disrespect her and her family by the provocative way we dress! If we continue to flaunt ourselves she will be complaining to my husband!

I wasn't quite sure what to say - I suggested she maybe wanted to refrain from looking into my house over her fence if we were upsetting her.

She is totally unhinged!

Bonkers woman, for goodness sake you weren't in the nude. Bikinis in garden are perfectly acceptable.

She should not be looking over! Nosey bitch.

Invest in higher fences. Honestly, I would hate to be overlooked. I can't see my neighbours and they cannot see me, good fences make for good neighbours. Walls are even better!

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 21/08/2018 11:35

What an unbelievable sexist, misogynistic attitude. She needs to drag herself into 2018 and have a word with herself.

I worry about what her attitude is teaching her son about women.

Gottagetmoving · 21/08/2018 11:44

Just tell her to sod off and stay away from your door...what is she going to do about it?! Ignore her after that.

Mitzimaybe · 21/08/2018 11:45

Suggest that they might want to be away at Samhain as you and your coven will be dancing naked round a bonfire?

serbska · 21/08/2018 11:45

She is totally unhinged.

I would start walking around naked at home.

You can generally still see into next door from an upstairs window tho can't you?

Strongbeatsskinny · 21/08/2018 11:47

You wear whatever clothes /bikinis you want to wear. I’d make a note of all of the incident that happen. Has she ever complained to you when your husband has been home?

Sounds like a jealous type of person that possibly resentful of her religious beliefs been brought up in a faith can be overwhelming I would think.

I know many different people with religion very much in their lives not one of them. Has ever done anything like this to my knowledge. She’s bonkers and needs to be totally ignored don’t engage with her. If she knocks on the door shut it in her face. If you are in the garden act as though you’ve not heard her.

lborgia · 21/08/2018 11:52

I have a friend who is extremely devout, and rants occasionally to me about unsuitable clad girls who are friends with her daughter. She would NEVER say anything to them or their mums.

This woman is way past devout. and agree that I would be very concerned about the poor son, and possibly your daughter in due course. He’s going to go blind if he keeps looking at you, obvs.

Knittedfairies · 21/08/2018 11:54

So fundies are fundamentalists of any persuasion? I was hoping it was underwear meant for fun....

Your neighbour is way out of order. This thread could run and run - unfortunately for you OP, (but gold for the rest of us)

FairfaxAikman · 21/08/2018 11:55

I think you should oblige and cover up completely- in Satanist robes.
And hold a bloody ritual in the garden for good measure.

Practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 21/08/2018 11:57

Dd is now having a party at weekend ( xmas baby so we have just decided big party in garden at weekend for her half year and a bit ) DH has said he will put bbq on youngest 2 going to grandparents so lots of teenagers, a pool and a trampoline and totally inappropriate music. Oh dear do you think I should warn them?

No but please can you post live updates! Wink

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 21/08/2018 12:02

It’s your bloody garden, you can go naked if you want,.... she sounds like a nutter. Our next door neighbours is sometimes outside in her bra and knickers but it’s non of my business.... your house you can do what you bloody want

Secretsquirrel101 · 21/08/2018 12:03

You hero 👏🏻

MaisyPops · 21/08/2018 12:04

She sounds bonkers but the fact she thinks your husband is the authority in your house says it all. She's probably hoping a word with him will keep his wife in check.

Ignore them. What oddballs.

apriljune12 · 21/08/2018 12:04

We have the Jesus army who live in a huge house down our lane and they play and sing but they are all exceptionally lovely genuine people.

When our old cat was knocked over they took him to ghf vets, put posters up and refused to let us repay them for the vets bill!

It was honestly enough to convert me, almost

Branleuse · 21/08/2018 12:04

Have a great party. Your neighbour sounds bonkers

kaytee87 · 21/08/2018 12:08

Complain to your husband GrinGrinGrin

HCMummy · 21/08/2018 12:12

In all seriousness do monitor and record all communication - I had a very similar ‘mad’ neighbour, who we all had a good laugh about at first..... when she had very similar outbursts... 1year later, a hasty house move and a court case (where she was charged with harassment and other charges - proved she wasn’t just mad!
Keep a good eye out anyway.... good luck with the party!

chocatoo · 21/08/2018 12:14

Good job she’s not our neighbor as I often wander around the house naked.

NatashaRomanov · 21/08/2018 12:15

May I recommend Nine Inch Nail's Closer for the inappropriate music?
If you have nice neighbors nearby, you may wish to warn them first!

Figmentofimagination · 21/08/2018 12:18

I think sisqo's thong song would be a good song to play on repeat Grin

DarlingNikita · 21/08/2018 12:20

Has she ever complained to you when your husband has been home?

Good point.

Ginger1982 · 21/08/2018 12:20

You will definitely have to post updates during the party! What do they wear? Is it all high collars and ankle length skirts??

Nikephorus · 21/08/2018 12:21

I'm hoping for the return of the heatwave for the day of the party so bikinis and skimpy shorts are essential-wear in your garden Grin
Tell DH to be careful around the BBQ in his mankini though!
