To think hot tubs in back gardens are a bit shit and anti social?

I'm sure they're nice and realxing and perfectly acceptable if you live a house with a huge garden and no close neighbours nearby, but my neighbours have just bought one. We live in a row of terraces, with small gardens and are overlooked from every direction. It's slap bag in the middle of the back yard and I can actually see them sitting in it if I go upstairs.

All weekend Ive heard the constant hum from the pumps and the stench of chlorine filling the air. Now they're sitting in, shouting like they're deaf because they can't hear themselves talking over the pump.

If I'm honest I also find them a bit tacky. I can't think of anything worse. Just have a sodding bath! DB's next door neighbours have and he's been moaning about it for ages, thought he was being a killjoy until one was installed here! Now I get it.

@NotAnotherNoughtiesTune

Maybe you can’t, but that’s how the op of that particular thread described it and it really stuck in my
mind.

RealJudas · 16/08/2018 19:32

I can't believe how many of you don't have sex in your hot tubs.... Sex pond sex is so fun!

delphguelph · 16/08/2018 19:34

I'd say so yeah man

headinhands · 16/08/2018 19:34

Do you have to look at them out your window?

I loathe people calling things tacky.

EdWinchester · 16/08/2018 19:36

We went for a dog walk last night and walked past a local house where they have a hot tub and a sideways to the road garden, so we could see a couple in there with a bottle of wine - lovely! But they had music blaring and neighbours in close proximity so I decided they're selfish arseholes.

Nodancingshoes · 16/08/2018 19:39

We've got one, it's lush - dont have sex in it though 😂🤣 nothing better than sitting in it on a cold winters night looking at the stars. Don't knock it till you've tried it

Jenjenyeahyeah · 16/08/2018 19:45

DH wanted to get one this summer - I absolutely vetoed the idea! I sent him countless articles about all the bacteria and sludge they harbour 🤢. We’ve got a little paddling pool for the kids and that’s quite enough. It just seems an awful lol of faff (water checking/purification/chemical kits) and for us prob wouldn’t get used for more than a few months out of the year because there’s no way I’m hot footing it across the garden in December to jump into essentially what is a bath in the garden (I’m sure my Nan in Wales had a tin bath outside for my gramps to jump into when he came home from the coal mines.... and ain’t nothing luxurious about that lol)

Yabu.

I bought one mainly for therapy - I have hip problems and being in the water helps a lot, works out cheaper in the long run than going to the swimming pool every day!

ManicUnicorn · 16/08/2018 21:41

It would be fine it people just sat in them and relaxed, but what's with all the shrieking?

That is called an orgasm

RainySeptember · 16/08/2018 22:34

Annoying shrieky people don't need a hot tub specifically, they'll find any way to be annoying and shrieky.

agedknees · 16/08/2018 22:47

I love our hot tub. It gives me respite from aching limbs.

I must be a chav though.

ItLooksABitOff · 16/08/2018 22:55

after reading this thread, even the haters' comments, I now want one.

KERALA1 · 16/08/2018 22:59

Lovely evening spent in the hot tub dh had shit day at work so sat in it and had a nice chat under the stars. I think it's years since either of us shrieked and no sex was had!

RainySeptember · 16/08/2018 23:52

Maybe we could agree that they're acceptable if owners position them in such a way that they're not visible to neighbours, keep them scrupulously clean and promise not to shriek?

We rent a holiday cottage every year that has one and I love it, it is the running cost and maintenance that puts me off. If you've got enough spare cash to pay the increased electricity bills, and are committed enough to keep on top of the maintenance, then good luck to you

PeridotCricket · 17/08/2018 07:01

Yep, I like a well kept clean hot tub somewhere relatively isolated out of hearing of neighbours. Out neighbours have theirs right up against the wooden fence of our garden, sit in there all night loudly discussing rubbish. It’s reall6 spoilt the quie5 enjoyment of our garden.

barefootinkitchen · 17/08/2018 07:12

Oh I don’t think I would put it in a place where neighbours could see/ hear. I think they’re nice if you’re looking up at the trees and sky.

headinhands · 17/08/2018 07:21

I have nothing against anyone else having one but definetly not for me and that's not just because my garden is really a patch of grass that can only fit a rotary washing line. I can't stand the feel of the bubbles it makes me feel physically sick.

mrcharlie · 18/08/2018 00:22

This thread made me howl..
I read a story on forum where a chap was invited round for a BBQ
The real reason for the BBQ was the hosts wanted to surprise everyone with their large hot tub. They'd had it over a week and were desperate for people to join in the 'fun'

The couples children had been messing round with snorkels and masks the poor chap finding himself alone in the hot tub donned the mask and peered below....he literally threw himself out of the tub!
lurking beneath the surface were a mixture of bodily hairs, mostly pubes and flakes of faeces!! Flakes of SHIT all swirling round and round.

Hmm, sounds delightful!!

OverByYer · 18/08/2018 00:28

Bowls of human soup. Gross.

KERALA1 · 18/08/2018 07:41

What silly posts. Just because some hot tubs are not cleaned and are rank doesn't mean they all are Hmm. If you swam once in an unclean swimming pool would you conclude all swimming pools are dirty and never swim again?

MissusGeneHunt · 18/08/2018 07:47

Chlamydia soup and thrush soup.... GrinGrinGrin fucking brilliant...!!
