Bloke in town with a microphone, yelling about how Jesus is the only way to heaven. Gays are sinners, other religions are sinners, we must repent blah blah blah.

Bad enough, but then he starts making eye contact with the only hijab wearing woman around and loudly proclaims that Only Christians Can Go To Heaven And All Other Religions Lead To Eternal Damnation - presumably as she's an easy target.

AIBU to think that's not right and that he shouldn't be allowed to wander around town yelling shit like that?

Hopefully everyone knows he’s a nutter and doesn’t pay any attention. I don’t know the laws on things like this or where freedom of speech becomes hate crime but I do know that he’s a nut job.

Religions are just a way of making a god in the image of man. Ironically they are all idol worship. So I don't care what they waffle on about. Many people are hard and ignore it.

But I agree with you, I do think it makes many other people upset and uncomfortable. So yes I think it shouldn't be allowed.

This sort of thing infuriates me completely. It is so unneccessary, offensive and has the opposite effect to any Gospel message of forgiveness and peace.

"His goodness leads us to forgiveness" not "being shouted at by a stranger"

I think as long as he’s not breaking any laws let him crack on. In brum city centre we get the Christian and Islamic nutters spouting off. It’s free speech let the getbin with it and you are equally able to ignore/debate or as me and my dds do laugh at them.

I think you should need permission and a license to be able to do that.

I also think if I got my own microphone and started shouting about there being no god there would be outrage and offence taken and I would be told to stop attacking religion. I wish I had the balls to actually do it.

Potentially he could be a public nuisance, but the reality is often as long as you're not inciting racial hatred, or violence etc, then you can stand on street corners and shout about whatever crap you want, be it your grannies cooking, or global warming.

Short of inciting hatred they can do what they want, but it does annoy me when they try to engage you in conversation on pretence of giving a leaflet. I had this just last week, and as usual said a polite "no thank you" ... only for him to yell "not interested in god, then? How sad"

Some of these types really don't help their own cause

He doesn’t sound deeply plausible though. Most people can ignore a florid nutter.

However ,prior to Trump I used to think thick bigots shot themselves in the foot he being so obviously stupid.

No such thing as "freedom of speech" in the UK. I think you're confusing UK law with the US Constitution.

It would need someone to not ignore it and walk on by and to instead report it to the Police on 101. If you find it offensive, report it.

Do you really think a nutter shouting "there is no God. All religious people of whatever sort are mad" would cause an uproar? I know far more atheists than theists, and most of them are not quiet about it.

Good for you Gremlins

We have some jehovas in our village every Friday! No idea why as it’s chock full of Christians(not me) Wink they don’t shout mind you and always amaze me as they all ages/colours/sexes. They seem nice but clearly deluded.

The Islamic and Christian preachers in the city centre are always shouting with megaphones! me and dds take much pleasure in standing in front of their tables and blocking their view. Dds usually in crop tops. Grin we then enjoy cocktails while in their full view. Wink

Feels like a good way to show women not giving a shit about mysogynistic controlling religions. Any of them.

No one is going to hear the crazy guy (almost always a guy) yelling in the street about Jesus or whoever and have some great epiphany!
