To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

I doubt this thread will last much longer.

Nope, it won't.

Follow drag queens/club kids/cabaret/performance artists. It’s another world! Off the top of my head I really enjoy alfieordinary, misterjoeblack, rify_royalty, lydialscabies, arranshurvinton, tracybarlowuk, itsshangela....There’s loads more but if you follow those accounts they often tag who they’re performing with/hanging out with/watching and you’ll find more fabulous that way.

SavannahSky · 14/08/2018 18:28

@ivegotatheoryitcouldbebunnies1 This thread was not about and if you read the OP was never intended to be about any one individual account. When one person was mentioned I did re point this out. The chat about that person was limited and did stop until people piled in and abused us ALL for talking about Esther the pig and Cake accounts (to name a few).

I personally AM taking issue with anyone who says that my OP was set up to abuse them. I understand what has been said previously was horrendous but that doesnt mean that someone cannot start a thread asking for opinions on instagram as a platform and asking for creative / inspirational accounts to look at. They (or anyone else) by all means can and should report posts which they think are out of line.

Now back to accounts that are not instamums (lets steer away from that) and to ones which are great to help me fall back in love with the platform.

Here here. Hiding in the comments of another thread does not mean that you aren’t adding to the bullying and harassment of a woman clearly trying to do her best for her child and herself! Mumsnet used to be a place where you could come to get advice and now it’s just a platform for some of the most vile behaviour I have ever witnessed from grown ass women!

Hi all

We've just deleted a few posts which discussed the state of mind and wellbeing of an Instagrammer. While we generally try to allow discussion of ethics and best practice on Instagram, we hope you'll all agree that it's not really in the spirit to make personal comments about people who have posted vocally about their difficulties. We hope you all understand - we're going to delete posts which refer to this person for now so please do avoid that. If the thread ends up full of holes we'll have to take the whole thing down.

Just a heads up, too, that, while there's clearly a great deal of interest in this relatively new area of 'public' family life, we don't think that's a justification for a free-for-all on people who are themselves finding their way. Please do be aware that after a certain point, threads which are critical of an individual or individuals move beyond robust critique, and start to feel a lot like a pile-on - tbh no-one comes out of that covered in glory. We're going to be keeping a close eye, so please do make sure that you'd be happy to say what you post if it were face to face, and listen to the mods if they let you know that the limit of reasonable criticism has been reached.

As many of you know, we operate an informal 'three strikes' policy on MN - we're definitely going to be applying that here, and we'd be sorry to have to wield the banhammer, so please do take care.

Thanks all,

MNHQ

@SpiritedFarAway - brilliant best post I have read all day.

I love insta but only for slimming World ideas😂

I think this whole situation is out of hand regarding she who shall not be named. I follow her insta but I've never come across "evil Mumsnet". I just think it's been blown out of proportion as the other thread was deleted🤷🏻‍♀️

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 18:32

@rachowl actually it was - so any accounts you have ideas about please feel free to post these!

Nice one mumsnet!! would it be possible for you to keep deleting comments about her if they are reported? It seems the right thing to do TBH.

Rachowl · 14/08/2018 18:36

@boredyboredy

I did. I recommended 3 accounts. The post was unnoticed in a sea of CC posts.

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 18:38

SarahandDuck
The Information you provide is up to you. You can set up an account and you have no obligation to post or even upload a picture to your profile. I haven't.

The hashtags are ways of a account holder directing you to similar accounts. So for example say my account is about Baking. I post a pic about my latest bake and then underneath I 'tag in' other related accounts, so:

'My Apple Strudel with golden delicious apples'

#GoldenDelicious #Strudel #GrannySmiths #Becca'sKitchen #BakingAccessories.

if you click on any of the hashtags you will be directed to that account.

You can also include other people you know with instagram accounts to see what you are looking at. So say I am looking at an account or feed on small self-builds and I know you have a tiny house and an instagram account, I can say @SarahandDick 'this is right up your street' so you'll get alert which you can either ignore or follow and see what I was looking at.

Its waaay better than Pinterest in my opinion as its less messy, more streamlined, and you have the choice of interaction at a very non committal level. Plus it updates all the time. Constantly. And honestly there's accounts on almost anything.
