To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 15:33

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

Sorry @rachowl - frantically trying to catch up on the posts now as it seemed to be derailed somewhat. Much appreciated.

Who actually gives a toss?

raisinsraisins · 14/08/2018 18:43

Ok, changing the subject...

I use Instagram as a glossy magazine, just for the photos. But I haven’t posted anything on it yet as it’s not anonymous. Even if I called myself another name, it still links to my Facebook and contacts. Don’t want work colleagues etc to see my instagram photos. Does anyone know a way around this?

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 18:44

A lot of comments underneath certain pictures on instagram about mumsnetters are far, far and away worse than anything I have ever seen posted on this site, ever.

That's all I'm going to say.

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 18:46

raisins Does it still link to your facebook if you use a different email from the one associated with your facebook account?

catinboots9 · 14/08/2018 18:47

What?? WTF has my post been deleted?

ShockShock

Sofialemon · 14/08/2018 18:48

@raisinsraisins
In settings there is a linked accounts option, I haven't linked my insta to my Facebook. I have my account set to private and don't use my name on it. Nothing I post on insta shows on Facebook and vice versa.

Presumably because it was a personal attack, cats.

catinboots9 · 14/08/2018 18:49

It wasn't a personal attack! Just an observation of the situation FFS

SpiritedFarAway · 14/08/2018 18:49

Well thanks @mammy0f0ne ☺️ 💖

Well before this thread is deleted I'm going to recommend some pages to follow on Instagram...

National Geographic

Body positivity ones like bodyposipanda
Earthpix
Humans of New York

Enjoy OP!

I follow mostly running pages, but my favourite pages to follow are @js_furniture they are a Japanese furniture company and it’s all amazing! My husband and I wanted to buy loads of stuff when we were in Tokyo for our honeymoon but couldn’t bring it back with us. So now I admire from a distance Grin

Rachowl · 14/08/2018 18:53

@spiritedfaraway

I second bodyposipanda love her!
And humans of new York

Snoopychildminder · 14/08/2018 18:55

spiritedfaraway are you a studio ghibli fan? If so they have some good instagram pages! The museum is incredible!!

BrynhildurWhitemane · 14/08/2018 18:56

I have just set up an IG account and can now confirm I am following Esther the Pig. I am now looking into some of these other accounts.

SemperIdem · 14/08/2018 18:56

Earn Your Roast is a nice account.

She’s a personal trainer with a young daughter. I really like her stories, she seems like a genuinely nice person. You see a lot of her daughter but not in that glossy way you do with others.

I also like Mere Souer.

And everyone needs to follow Juniper Fox - about well...a fox. Rescued and living as a pet but her owners are very experienced wildlife handlers and very clear that owning foxes is not “trendy” etc. Genuinely interesting.

Stopyourhavering64 · 14/08/2018 18:57

I love National Geographic and Earth focus for some incredible photos
Bucket list family for their travel adventures
Tom Archer photography
Ben fogle
NASA

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/08/2018 18:57

LOVE Humans of New York. There's some perspective right there!

Had a quick look at the stories, turned it off. Can't bear the woman. But she does love the attention, which is why she made this thread, that had nothing to do with her as the OP hadn't even heard of her, all about her. But she's got a book to sell. No such thing as bad publicity right?

I follow lots of travel accounts, I love motheroffiveboys and littlewanderworld in addition to handluggageonly who I already mentioned. I crochet, so follow crochet accounts and I love an animal account. I follow all the guys from Queer Eye, as well as many childhood obsessions (ahem Taylor Hanson), as well as following hashtags for things and places that interest me.

For excercise inspiration Joja is good. They are Victorias Secret models who really workout hard. Totally unrealistic to expect to look like them but they inspire to try your best. They also post what they really eat and are very positive.
