New pram for second DC?

Blueberrybouquet · 06/08/2018 22:47

Hi all, I’m expecting my second DC in three months and was just wondering whether most people buy another pram? For my DS we got the Bugaboo Cameleon, so it was pretty expensive. It’s in fairly good condition but obviously would need a bit of a clean / spruce up. There’s something a bit exciting though about pram shopping though and wheeling a new baby in a brand new model...! Am I being totally over indulgent and unreasonable? Celebs and people I follow on social media all seem to get a new model with each child but is this normal?! Thanks in advance!

No it's not normal.

Use the same one unless you need to get a double as your older child can't walk.

theymademejoin · 06/08/2018 22:50

You need to get at least an extra 3 prams. Surely you wouldn't use the same pram for autumn as you used for summer?

Worieddd · 06/08/2018 22:51

I don’t think it’s normal?

Only early days for me yet but I’ll be reusing my Uppababy with my second. I wouldn’t waste money on a new one

NapQueen · 06/08/2018 22:51

Ive known people get more than one pram per dc.

Why dont you think about the downsides of the current pram - any issues with size/fold/turning circle/etc? Could you sell and put the money towards another?

Do you need another? Could you get a different colour hood etc for this one?

SometimesItRains · 06/08/2018 22:52

Not normal and a complete waste of money, never mind of resources.

Llanali · 06/08/2018 22:52

I don’t think it’s normal either..... but then I had an excellent condition second hand one anyway.

RoboJesus · 06/08/2018 22:52

Well if you're rich then you can buy what you like

15star · 06/08/2018 22:53

I got a new pram but there was a 5 year age gap. Got an ickle bubba stomp system, it was very reasonable and i really like it! I've also got a new buggy as well.

Llanali · 06/08/2018 22:54

I did however have more than one pram..... one off roadie as we live on a farm, and one for in the car going places.

switswoo81 · 06/08/2018 22:54

No not normal. We are using our chameleon on second baby. They are meant for more than one at that price!

Oysterbabe · 06/08/2018 22:55

We did but only because we needed a double.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/08/2018 22:55

I used my same pram for all three children over five years. Before that it was used for my niece.

TheExhausted · 06/08/2018 22:56

I have a Cameleon too. When we have a second I plan to get a Bee but will still use my Cameleon too. The Cameleon is just too bulky for many places and I'd like something that folds as one in the car. But want to keep my Cameleon for off-road. My DH thinks this is a huge waste of money so I'm already saving up for this and don't plan on TTC until next year.

Tistheseason17 · 06/08/2018 22:57

I think you know the answer, OP....

NorthernLurker · 06/08/2018 22:58

Of course it's a huge waste of money! You have a really excellent pram, you just need to wipe it over and stop being so shallow. Sensible people buy a new pram if they need a double or if the first pram has fallen apart. That's all.

ProseccoPoppy · 06/08/2018 22:59

The only people I knew who bought a second pram were those who needed a double due to a small age gap. I don’t see why on earth you’d want a whole new pram. Getting a new mattress for a carrycot absolutely makes sense, plus new parts for anything worn - on mine I replaced the shopping basket, but other than that I don’t know why you’d want to. (Disclaimer - I hate shopping, was bored rigid by looking at prams and in the end just got DH to pick it, also never really got excited about wheeling a baby in a pram, much prefer using a sling whenever possible, so I am possibly not the right person to ask on this).

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 06/08/2018 23:00

Totally normal! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, hun! Celebs and social media yummy mummies definitely buy all their own stuff and absolutely aren't getting paid to convince their gullible followers that you've got to get all new stuff for your precious new bubba.

It's probably best to burn all the old stuff, just in case you accidentally put the new baby in the old pram. Can you imagine?!?! Shock Lolz.

Your bubz, your roolz.

C0untDucku1a · 06/08/2018 23:00

I bought a second pram
Because my two
Were
Close in age and i needed a double.

When dc1 was old enough i switched dc2 into the single id bought for dc1. Dn had had the same pram. It has beem going 8 years!

belleandsnowwhite · 06/08/2018 23:05

I brought a new pram but my 1st pram was 2nd hand. We could not afford a new pram for 1st baby. I was so proud of the brand new pram, I recently donated it and was sad to see it go. If I had brought the pram new for my 1st baby I would I reused it though.

BackforGood · 06/08/2018 23:07

Of course it is a huge waste of money, and resources.
Your dc2 won't thank you. If you feel the need to spend however much a new pram costs these days, then spend it on Premium Bonds for your dc and, even if they never win, they can use the cash when they are older for something they'll appreciate much more, like some driving lessons. You never know, they might even win along the way.

Thistles24 · 06/08/2018 23:07

I got a new pram for DS2- the one I had for DS1 was a travel system where the car seat clipped onto the buggy seat if you know what I mean? They seem very unfashionable these days! It was fine, and served its purpose, but I always envied my friends who had parent facing proms, so when I had DS2 2 years later I bought a 3 wheeler that faces both ways and loved it. If there’s something in particular that you don’t like about your bugaboo, I’d say sell it and get a new one- especially if you use it a lot.

Merryoldgoat · 06/08/2018 23:09

I did, because a) the one I had for DC1 was second hand to me and past it’s best and b) I’d got rid of it during a particularly bad week with 3yo DC and decided I didn’t want a second.

That was 2 years ago and DC2 is 5 months.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 06/08/2018 23:09

i am using the pram we got in 2010 for my current dd, I always got on well with it. What is your age gap? If you don't need a double and you are happy with the old pram then it's a bit silly to change. There must be something you weren't happy with first time round that you can treat yourself to.

Look into car seats because they expire

dinosaurkisses · 06/08/2018 23:11

I think most “normal” people who buy a new pram when they don’t really need to are those who made the wrong purchase in the first place- I know if there was more than two years of a gap between dd and dc2 DH would have a hard time convincing me to keep hold of our Wayfarer instead of getting a Bugaboo Bee or Yo-yo.

As it happens, there will only be a gap of 17 months between DC2 so another ungainly pram for me it seems!

ParkheadParadise · 06/08/2018 23:17

I had a 23years age gap between my dds. Prams have certainly moved on.
Pram shopping nearly ended in divorce for us😁😁

I've lost count of the prams my niece bought for her dc's.
