New pram for second DC?

Blueberrybouquet · 06/08/2018 22:47

Hi all, I’m expecting my second DC in three months and was just wondering whether most people buy another pram? For my DS we got the Bugaboo Cameleon, so it was pretty expensive. It’s in fairly good condition but obviously would need a bit of a clean / spruce up. There’s something a bit exciting though about pram shopping though and wheeling a new baby in a brand new model...! Am I being totally over indulgent and unreasonable? Celebs and people I follow on social media all seem to get a new model with each child but is this normal?! Thanks in advance!

I had a real consumerist hankering for a new pram as our old second hand one was knackered to bits. In the end I went for another £50 second hand one and tbh it sits in the garden as dsgoes everywhere by sling! I’m glad I fought my urge to buy new but I totally understand the feeling.

You do know that these people live in a fantasy world right? Never believe what you see on social media.

Gkite · 07/08/2018 02:16

I've had two prams for each child Blush

Like who? Louise Pentland, Fleur De Force, Father it Daughter etc.? They are all given many, many, many baby and child products for free. They have no real bearing on reality. They are professional brain washers.

I am expecting a baby and said DC will have our 4yo’s pram but with a new mattress in the carry cot.

I know a woman who got addicted to the buzz of buying new prams and pushchairs, wheeling them around for a few weeks and then selling on eBay/Gumtree. She shows you photos on her phone not of her children but of the twenty odd prams she bought in a 12 month period. Such precious memories. Confused

FeralBeryl · 07/08/2018 02:58

The point of buying a really good prank like a bug is that it should see you through a few kids in my opinion Wink
I needed a double too, but kept the bug and bought an extra carrycot so when number 3 came, I could flirt between DC2 and 3 using it with fart arsing round with the frame too much. I still miss having a peak to push

FeralBeryl · 07/08/2018 02:59

PRAM NOT PEAK. Fuck you autocorrect

FeralBeryl · 07/08/2018 02:59

Ffs just spotted PRANK too. Off to bed...

I had to buy another pram as we only had a 19 month age gap so needed a double (or thought we did). Ended up barely using the bloody thing. Now pregnant with DC3 and can’t wait to go back to using the Uppababy Vista we bought for DC1 in 2013! Absolutely loved it so no reason to buy a new one at all.
If you’ve got more money than sense then go for it Wink.

kirkandpetal · 07/08/2018 03:22

Totally unnecessary. I had a bugaboo chameleon and it's about to be used for the forth time - twice for my two and twice for my brothers kids. Timing wise, it's worked out well.

If money is no object then buy a new one but pretty wasteful.

You can get new covers for the bugaboo which might give it a different look/feel if that helps?

Trazey · 07/08/2018 03:47

God no!

We were given a Stokke by another mother and were delighted. DH was a little disappointed as had seen buggy-buying as an area he could research and have control over.

We were also given a lot of clothes, furniture etc and have passed it all on. There seems to be a trend where those who can perhaps afford it less will waste spend money on new buggies for each of their children whereas those who could more easily afford it don't care about second hand goods.

DazzlingMilton · 07/08/2018 03:55

I used the same travel system for DC2’s first year, then as soon as she was out of the car seat i gave it away and bought an off road running buggy. Best thing ever and so much more comfortable to use, it serves my purpose far better (dog walks etc) than the old one which I forced myself to use because I’d spent so much money on it

TheExhausted · 07/08/2018 06:08

Which pram did you have in mind? As a PP said you can get new fabrics for your Bugaboo so it's like a completely new pram.

Flightbite · 07/08/2018 06:56

Wind up?

I mean really all the celebs and people I follow get new Prams?!?

What about your real life friends? Whet do they do?

BlackberryandNettle · 07/08/2018 08:23

Not normal, just use the one you have... Everyone I know reused and some of those people have loads of money, but mainly normal people. Not sure why you'd be worrying about what celebs do🙄

On the other hand, despite using the same 'single' buggy for all three DC when out alone with them, we also used 2 double buggies (both bought and sold/passed on second hand) for dc1 and 2 who were under an 18mnth age gap, plus a second hand maclaren for taking on the plane for holidays.

BlackberryandNettle · 07/08/2018 08:25

We also reused carseat/cot/high hair/clothes etc, basically everything, although dc2 was a different gender so he got new clothes, pink PJs though for tlfirat couple of years!

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 07/08/2018 08:25

We bought a new one for DS2 because we'd not kept anything from DS1. If we had, I doubt he'd have got much new stuff simply because prams and pushchairs are so expensive.

dentydown · 07/08/2018 08:47

Can you get a new cover for the bugaboo? I got a second hand one and had buy a new hood, they also had a matching seat cover but I wasn’t really interested.
A bit of furniture polish and taking the seat covers off to wash made it look new!

BarryTheKestrel · 07/08/2018 08:51

I sold my first pram and have bought a new one for DC2 with the proceeds. Not because I needed one as such, but because there were a few downsides with the old one that I didn't really want to have to deal with for another 18 months or so if I can help it!

Peachpebbles · 07/08/2018 08:59

I didn't think it was normal to buy one for each child until I got chatting at work and most people had done it. It never occurred to me before.

Chinnyreckoning · 07/08/2018 09:00

I saw a woman on a facebook group yesterday who had had 612 prams. She something like 37 still in her house....i don think some were vintage silver cross etc but still. This woman was a buggy addict and I thought it was really sad. She was still using the prams with her four year old and actively encouraging them to stay in the pram rather than walk. Hmm

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 09:04

Dc1 had travel system (up to 12 months) and a stroller (12 months+)

Dc2 had to buy a double as 16 month age gap, he also went in dc1s travel system and stroller and eventually had new stroller himself

Dc3 had new travel system and new stroller

Dc4 had new travel system and pushchair, occasionally goes in dc3s stroller

We also had two of those cheap little strollers for grandparents/holidays etc

bridgetreilly · 07/08/2018 09:05

Plenty of people do it but it is utterly bonkers. Save your money for something else.

Gorbie · 07/08/2018 09:06

We've got this pushchair brought it when I had my daughter 3yrs ago, I now have a 6 week old and we gave it a good clean and it's as good as new now, I have brought a second hand double for when we're out and about doing lots of walking, I personally wouldn't buy a new one if it can be cleaned up, just seems like a huge waste of money. I'd rather put the money into children's savings accounts

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 07/08/2018 09:08

I'm reusing my Joie Chrome. I loved it with DD and can't wait to get it out again.

LeighaJ · 07/08/2018 09:08

I don't think most things celebrities do is normal, but hey it's your money to waste, so crack on.
