To ask for your CF wedding tales?

A guest’s plus one (someone I’d never met before) wore a white mini dress to my wedding. I laughed it off at the time (more focused on getting married!) but lots of people were a bit outraged on my behalf that she wore white.

Anyone got some more lovely tales of CFs trying to steal wedding thunder? I do love a good CF story!

Is it that bad to wear white? For someone who isn't part of the bridal party? It wasn't a white gown... Some people are easily outraged.

My cousin wore a short bridesmaid type white dress with a pink sash to my Sister's wedding and put her daughter in a long bridesmaid dress !!! This is typical of her tho , life is all about her or she doesn't want to know !

I don't get the drama about wearing white. A full length white gown, OK I get that but a mini dress, so what? I bet most of the men wore white shirts, is that wrong too?

I saw some wedding photos on FB and one of the guests had a long white gown on, plus a sparkly tiara.

My mil assumed she was invited to our wedding.
Wrong you horrible woman..
So she spouted lies to her friends about how she had been treated. .
Omitted how badly she had treated us to be missed off the guest list though!

White & black - definitely colours Not to be worn to a wedding.

Red hotpants are fairly inappropriate too (someone's girlfriend at a friends wedding, she managed to get in the middle of loads of the photos too)

Wearing a white shirt, the default option for most suits, and hardly the substantive part of the outfit, isn’t the same as wearing a white dress, is it? That said, a girl at my cousin’s wedding fifteen years wore an ivory trousersuit and a Stetson. Sounds awful, looked amazing. I wouldn’t get too upset it out - she made herself look silly, not you.

It isn't the done thing to wear white for sure.

One friend turned up minus partner, told us outside the church that he had a bit on that day so wouldn't be there. Formal seated wedding in a small venue so not an insignificant cost lost.
Followed by:
My friend turned up with new boyfriend in tow, having been told there wasn't space for him already. (We had a short engagement and they weren't together back when we issued invites, and a small venue). On hearing the above conversation "oh brilliant! Room for Y after all. But can we shuffle the seats around so we are together?" Literally as we are stood on the church steps. 😂

Both my mum and MIL both wore white at my wedding! Luckily I'm pretty easy going, but still...

I saw a woman in a white lacy jump suit last wedding I was at she also had her hair fixed up with a diamante tiara clip Shock she was sitting at our table she was a total pain in the arse and whooped and loudly laughed through the speeches

I had some random woman in my wedding pictures she was well known for hanging about the registry office I didn't see herbut somebody said she was in the ceremony too !

I got marrird abroad with 6 people there in total including myself and DH. Had a big party for the reception for family and friends after we were home. The following day was MIL's girlfriends birthday so halfway through the night she put a tiara on and changed clothes so the celebrations could be about her.
MIL also had an argument with one of DH's brothers to the point they were both asked to leave.
Wish I hadn't bothered with the reception to be honest.

Not a big one, but when we told MIL we weren't going to have a traditional big wedding in the UK (we were going to just go off and get married just the two of us), she threw a strop and said "but what about MY big wedding? Why don't I get to have a big day?!". Husband was like...erm, we're the ones getting married, not you?. She complained that the other son had a "small reception wedding", and she "wasn't getting her big day" when both my husband and her other child also chose to have tiny weddings.

Friend insisted on a plus one, missed the ceremony and showed up towards the end of the party asking for leftover food to take as her contribution to another party she was heading to.

everyone i worked with at the time got an invite to the evening reception only as i got married on a weekday and they wouldn’t have been able to go to the actually ceremony anyway. there was one lady who i was closer to and she worked part time so i invited her to the actual ceremony. one woman was so outraged she hadn’t been invited to the ceremony just decided to take the day off work and come anyway... i also didn’t invite plus ones for people at work if they didn’t have partners as they would have had each other as company anyway and i didn’t want a load of strangers at my wedding. someone else from work rocked up with her friend and said she had to let her come as she was her lift home..

My friends step mum brought an univited friend because she didn't want to sit alone that was a bit of a hoha but the hotel was lovely about it and sorted seat and food with no fuss,

God I am hoping I wasn’t a CF. Good friend of DPs wedding. He went to all of it I was only invited to evening. (Fair enough I wasn’t close with her and weddings are expensive so no issue there!)

Unfortunately the dress id been planning to wear had a huge stain on it so did a last minute substitute with a short cream dress.

Paired with black tights and black jacket and figured for evening I’d be okay. I’m now hoping she didn’t think I was a huge twat.. Blush

A guest invited her adult son AND his girlfriend we'd never met. She didn't even RSVP to say they were coming, so they weren't counted for catering.

To add insult to injury, he turned up in a tuxedo t-shirt. Then sat in an aisle seat, so he's in every fucking photo.

Not exactly CF as this was funny and cute but after we got married in Greece I spotted two little boys in our wedding photos (with their heads bowed respectfully) wearing shorts and Ninja Turtle t-shirts. Told DH that I thought their parents could've dressed them a bit better for the occasion. He said: "Oh, I don't think they were with any of our guests. They probably just snuck into the church to get the sweets at the end of the ceremony." Apparently he had done the same when he was a kid, enduring a two hour ceremony in ancient Greek just to get a handful of sugared almonds which are really not that great

My sister had a habit of bringing one of our friends as her plus one to a couple of other friends' weddings. I always thought that was cheeky as if our friends had wanted said friend there they would have invited her!

Possibly more than just a CF story, but many years ago I was bridesmaid to a great friend. I’d never met her mum and discovered why at the first dress shopping appointment when she used the words “lovely but a shame you are so.......elephantine. Get it made a size down and that will give you an incentive to diet”. My gorgeous friend was about a size 12, despite being 6 ft tall!

Anyway, along came the day and a couple of other friends had been placed on MoB wrangling duty. Thank God. She tried to commandeer the bridal car to go to the church, to take the brides bouquet to pieces to make up a better buttonhole for herself, pinched one of the bridesmaids hair ornaments to wear herself, went up to cut the cake instead of the B&G, etc. The list was endless. When someone finally lost it and called her out she burst into tears and said that it wasn’t fair that the bride was having such a lovely day as she had been such an awful child! ThNkfully the bride was largely unaware of it all but the groom was steaming about it. He was so kind and lovely about us all keeping her mother away from her and not ruining the big day, we knew she had a good one there.

Funnily enough, they are now NC with her mother and much happier for it.

Not mine but my parents.

They had a last minute hitch on some building works on their new house so had to fork out to get it rectified days before the wedding leaving them extremely short till pay day a few days later.
No worries says my Gran to Dad, we'll pack you up a few boxes of leftovers from the reception to take home with the cake.
CF aunt begged a lift home from the newly weds, also with her own box of leftovers. Then proceeded to ask for help from my dad to take her other boxes in, which they only discovered later were their leftovers and top tier of wedding cake.

This was back when it was still a big thing to keep the top tier of a wedding cake for your first childs christening.
Gran was fuming and basically had my parents round each night for that period for dinner, as a way of apologising on her bad mannered sisters behalf.

Since my 1st anniversary is coming up, here's my list ( I had a fabulous day and couldn't have cared less, but looking back it was quite cheeky/funny)

  1. MIL shushing ME with her back to me and raising her hand to my face to stop me talking. She was trying to order the photographers about and I was telling her that they already had a list of what pictures we wanted. That did piss me off a bit.
  • Her card to us still had the 29p price tag on and didn't even address us by name. Just said, 'Happy Wedding Day, from MIL NAME'*

2) One of my bridesmaids texting me at 2am on the day of the wedding to tell me she hadn't really slept yet and was knackered. In doing this, she woke me up!!! I was furious. She has a problem with making things about her, she also turned up to get ready and had 'forgotten' her underwear. She went on and on about it, as well as the fact she hadn't slept, I cheerfully told her I didn't want to hear about it and to shut the fuck up (with a smile Grin)
This bridesmaid also didn't even get us a bloody card, even after I paid for literally everything leading up to the day

  1. A school friend got absolutely wasted and started inviting her entire family to the reception, she had loads of sisters and by the end of the night they were all there plus her Mum and Dad! She also passed out in the bathroom apparently

There was others, but these are the three that provided the most Shock

The last wedding I went to the aunt (in law I think?) of the bridal couple was ghastly - during the dinner decided to sneak upstairs and take champagne from the bridal suit to put in her own room, made horrible comments during the speeches and then by the first dance was embarrassingly drunk and getting in everyone's way! Generally just a vile woman tbh and I am shocked she was invited!
