You are breastfeeding at home and someone rings the doorbell...do you:
A) open the door with baby at your breast
B) ignore the door, even if it’s clear you’re at home
C) put baby down and leave to cry, cover up and answer
D) other (but please indicate wtf other is as I’m baffled)

Just gave my postman an eyeful as I panicked and didn’t know what else to do! Not sure what the correct breastfeeding/door answering etiquette is. 🙈

A or, if you don't feel comfortable to do that, B.

(A) - I used to chuck a muslin over the baby and boob so I felt less selfconscious. I used to pull my clothes down rather than up to feed so that helped. A giant cardigan is also handy.

A

Racecardriver · 27/07/2018 11:15

I always did a.

WorldCupnovice · 27/07/2018 11:15

Personally I would just have done A. But you could shout out that you are in the middle of something and wil need a moment , as you pacify baby.

theymademejoin · 27/07/2018 11:18

A but not sure why he would have got an eyeful unless you were feeding topless.

LeighaJ · 27/07/2018 11:18

C. I don't like anyone seeing my tits, they're private.

But my baby also didn't cry if she was taken off for a couple of minutes.

This happened to me .. postman came .. I panicked didn't know what to do .. so it was B for me

arethereanyleftatall · 27/07/2018 11:25

I did A, bit only once We were comfortable/good enough at feeding that she would carry on feeding thus covering my nipple whilst I carried her around with one arm.

cricketmum84 · 27/07/2018 11:36

A - it's totally natural and you are in your own home! Tbf he probably didn't even pay attention. I once had a conversation with my step dad while bf, he left the room and my mum made a comment about did he feel uncomfortable and he hadn't even noticed that was what I was doing!

crispysausagerolls · 27/07/2018 11:42

God this has made me feel so much better! Thanks everyone - also the reason he “got an eyeful” was I was wearing a feeding vest pulled down over one breast and my breasts are quite big and baby was quite low down 🙈🙈🙈 now I wish I hadn’t said “well this is awkward” 😂

It depends on yourself with how comfortable you are for people to see you feeding. I'd always with A myself. I opened the door to the Amazon delivery man with my pump hanging off my boob's more than once. Poor sod Grin

Ennirem · 27/07/2018 12:17

A, unless baby was drifting off to sleep in which case B. Frankly nothing that comes to the door is more important than getting the wee beggar to sleep for 20 minutes! Grin

Ennirem · 27/07/2018 12:18

And yes, no shame - you come to my house, I will answer the door in whatever state I see fit!

Lightsong · 27/07/2018 12:22

I would and have done A

OneStepSideways · 27/07/2018 12:25

I always did A

I'm sure postmen are used to it! Not only seeing babies on the boob but people half dressed or with only a towel if they've jumped out the shower.

happypoobum · 27/07/2018 12:26

I always did B.

But I never answer the door unless I am expecting someone. Nobody would dare "pop in" Grin

AGrinWithoutACat · 27/07/2018 12:31

A - but I also fed in cafes at PILs, around tradesmen and house surveyor and once walking down the beach with older DCs (baby in a sling)

Never used a cover and no one batted an eye

Gribbie · 27/07/2018 13:24

Friend of mine put baby down, answered door to postie, then remembered to put boob away Grin

crispysausagerolls · 27/07/2018 18:34

Gribbie

Haha amazing!!
