You are breastfeeding at home and someone rings the doorbell...do you:
A) open the door with baby at your breast
B) ignore the door, even if it’s clear you’re at home
C) put baby down and leave to cry, cover up and answer
D) other (but please indicate wtf other is as I’m baffled)

Just gave my postman an eyeful as I panicked and didn’t know what else to do! Not sure what the correct breastfeeding/door answering etiquette is. 🙈

A.
Every fucking time.

Some people are batshit!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/07/2018 20:43

A or B. If I'm breastfeeding, it's sometimes totally the wrong time to answer the door. I have zero problem with ignoring it occasionally.

crispysausagerolls · 27/07/2018 20:43

A, I've never known the Jehova's Witnesses to leave so quickly

Will try this next time, with or without the baby 😉😂

So pleased it’s not just me

Sevendown · 27/07/2018 20:46

B

thelonggame · 27/07/2018 20:54

A

NatureGal · 27/07/2018 20:56

Ex postie, and A. Always felt a bit rude if door answered and recipient was breastfeeding just because I interrupted. Did get shouted at once but wasn't to know!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 27/07/2018 20:59

A every time but if baby was at the breast he wouldn’t have seen a LOT would he?

Mouikey · 27/07/2018 21:08

A - but I always put a note on the door saying please wait as I have a newborn and it may take me a couple of minutes to get to the door. Surprisingly even amazon drivers waited for me!!!

Well not the nipple, no! But he did look a bit surprised/embarrassed!!

A is fine. The poor postie has probably seen worse. It might have been the highlight of his day!! ;-)

BadBadBeans · 27/07/2018 21:17

A. Also, when DS was born I sort of knew my postman socially - had occasionally had a pint with him in the village pub. He rang the doorbell one morning and I was only half-dressed - just wearing a t-shirt and knickers and holding the baby. I decided to go ahead and answer anyway, with the classic greeting: 'Sorry I'm in my pants, John.' He looked massively embarrassed, handed over the post and backed away as fast as possible! I felt a bit bad for him!

Ifeelshit · 27/07/2018 21:19

A.

You can see less of my boob when I'm breastfeeding that when I'm wearing a vest top.

BlueJava · 27/07/2018 21:21

B.

PerverseConverse · 27/07/2018 21:28

A. My postman was used to knocking with parcels and seeing LO attached. It did t bother me or him and he couldn't actually see my breast as baby's head was in the way. I've breastfed all 3 children anywhere and everywhere and beyond the first few feeds out and about with DD1 I didn't really think about it. It always amazed me what I could do with a baby attached!

BlueThesaurusRex · 27/07/2018 21:34

A!

I did loads of online shopping during the BF stage so ended up getting parcels every other day.. none of my local posties seemed bothered and they all helped by closing the door for me afterwards!

DidimusStench · 27/07/2018 21:36

Well I was doing A but now she’s 6 months and too big to hold, wrestle the dog away from the front door and deal with whoever it is at the same time.

I usually do B. If it’s before 11 in the morning I know it’s the postman and they’ll be back/leave package at the neighbour’s (they don’t mind!) but if it’s someone persistent like the arsehole Yodel driver that nearly caved my door in knocking yesterday then I’ll do C.

More than once over the 2 kids, have done C and forgot to put my boob away in the rush, so the visitor was greeted with a nipple swinging freely Blush

Esspee · 27/07/2018 21:38

When mine were small I always fed from below. T-shirt covered top part of breast and baby covered the bottom half. In public (planes, restaurants etc.) I had a thin cotton shawl to cover us draped like a pashmina.
I found that nobody ever noticed and just assumed baby was sleeping in my arms.

Different kettle of fish when they got older and often broke off mid feed to check if more interesting things were going down round about us. Quite a few people were sprayed with milk as a result Grin.

cliffdiver · 27/07/2018 21:38

A

Numerous times.

butlerswharf · 27/07/2018 21:41

A and b all the time. And sometimes A with a muslin on top.

milkmilk · 27/07/2018 21:47

What would you do if you are sat breastfeeding in a shady spot in the back garden and the window cleaner arrives? Full blow whipped out as I'm not over looked!

Stinkyswan · 27/07/2018 21:49

I always did A. People often knocked on my front window with direct view of me bf on the sofa, at first I felt self conscious but towards the end didn't care. I was having an extension built after DS was born and am pretty sure all the builders all had an eyeful Blush.

Booboostwo · 27/07/2018 21:51

E. Forget I had been recently breastfeeding DD and open the door with one breast hanging out! That’s what sleep deprivation does to you. Luckily I live in France and the postman didn’t bat an eyelid.

EmeraldVillage · 27/07/2018 21:54

I have do e A, B and C. Also D - detach baby, cover boob enough and go to door holding baby as opposed to putting down.
