Bin men not taking bin away?

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:01

The bin men have been today and it completely slipped my mind to put my bin out! So they have left it, if I dont put it down the steps out of my garden they wont touch it. Aibu to think its silly? Also if i call the council to arrange a recollection they just never show up! and only collect it next bin day.

If its not where it should be it's not their fault but yours

UndergroundSun · 05/07/2018 13:04

Imagine how much longer it would take if they had to go into everyone's garden to collect their bins?

HilaryBriss · 05/07/2018 13:04

That is pretty standard tbh, if a bin isn't by the roadside then they leave it. What if everyone forgot to put their bin out? Would the bin men be expected to go hunting for them all? How would they even know that it needed emptying? You could have not put it out due to there being nothing in it.

LeighaJ · 05/07/2018 13:04

So it's the bin men's job to go into your garden to collect your bin? Hmm

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:05

Is it my fault that they are meant to rearrange a collection and never come?

Entitled much. Why should they come back to empty your bin that you forgot to put out? You sound ridiculous

KinkyAfro · 05/07/2018 13:06

Yes it's your fault, if you put the bin out there wouldn't be a problem

Piffle11 · 05/07/2018 13:06

Collecting stinking rubbish in this heat can't be pleasant: expecting them to go looking for the bins in the first place is perhaps a step too far.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:06

My sister said they collect hers from her garden and we are the same council.

OP posts:
AlonsoTigerHeart · 05/07/2018 13:07

They wouldn't have to rearrange if you put it out so yes, it is.

RayRayBidet · 05/07/2018 13:07

They aren't allowed to take the bin from your property unless you have an agreed assisted collection

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:07

because my council offers that service.

Unless you contact council they won't take your bin if it's not where it should be. I know an elderly lady whose bin men going into her garden to retrieve the bin but that’s only as she can't move it herself

LeighaJ · 05/07/2018 13:09

Well your lazy sister is lucky her bin men don't mind her making their job more difficult.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 05/07/2018 13:09

Sister is irrelevant. Your road is told to put out the bin do.you put it out

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:09

Use this form to tell us about a missed bin collection.
You can help us deal with this faster by providing as much detail as possible. This form will ask for your name and contact details, what type of collection has been missed and the location of your bin.
We aim to collect missed bins as soon as possible after receiving forms.

This is normal. You put your bins out or they don't get emptied. If you are physically unable to you can arrange for them to be collected from your house by the council. We can arrange a special collection for a fee so this might be the best option. We forgot once but luckily before we had babies so not piles of nappies but still tricky when it is a month's worth of rubbish.

On the other hand when my parents went on holiday once the bin men noticed they hadn't put the bin bags out and so went into their garden and emptied what they presumed to be the dustbin only it was mum's wormery!

WelshPooch · 05/07/2018 13:13

Not sure that bin men are strictly speaking allowed to enter your garden to collect bins, so only collect from kerbside. If you have physical difficulties, in my area you can ask for an assisted bin collection when they are covered to enter your garden.
Although they say they will try to return to collect bins, in reality this rarely happens as the cost in terms of time would hike your council tax into the stratosphere. Especially, as in your case, this was your fault. Also, my council will charge for any re-collection made the second time a non-collection is proved to be your fault.
This is not a council in the south starting with an E is it?

ChesterCake · 05/07/2018 13:13

They collect any bins THEY have missed. They don’t come back to collect bins you couldn’t be bothered to put out

Botanicbaby · 05/07/2018 13:13

Why not just set a calendar reminder to take your bins out on the right day of the week? Sounds like this isn’t the first time you’ve had this non-issue.

I don’t think you can hold them to account for not coming back to collect your stinky bin when part of the deal is that they already have been along and collected them in the date they said they would. Learn from your past mistakes rather than shifting blame to others. YABU.

JennyBlueWren · 05/07/2018 13:14

A missed bin means one which they missed not when you missed the collection.

Anythingforacatslife · 05/07/2018 13:14

Missed bin collections are usually only for when the bin lorry has missed a road, for instance. It’s not for forgetful people. You can submit the request, they will see that your road was collected and that’s why they don’t come back.

bluerunningshoes · 05/07/2018 13:16

yabu
we only put it out when it's full.
would be annoyed if binmen took it and then left it out on the pavement...

Groovee · 05/07/2018 13:20

We have that form on our council website. It's when a whole street has been missed that you fill it out. Not because you forgot to put the bin out. They usually keep records and that will be why they don't come back. I have to walk right down to the main pavement with mine. That's life!

Poloshot · 05/07/2018 13:21

😂😂 missed bin collection isn't for if you forget to put it out, it's if for whatever reason they don't collect the street's bins
