Bin men not taking bin away?

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:01

The bin men have been today and it completely slipped my mind to put my bin out! So they have left it, if I dont put it down the steps out of my garden they wont touch it. Aibu to think its silly? Also if i call the council to arrange a recollection they just never show up! and only collect it next bin day.

YABU.

Unless you leave the bin at the edge of the property with the handles facing out and the lid shut, they don't have to take it.

They didn't miss the collection: you did, by not presenting your bin for collection. You'll just have to manage until the next scheduled collection.

SilverySurfer · 05/07/2018 13:26

Honestly, the entitlement of some people on here takes my breath away sometimes.

YOU should put your bin out for collection. YOU failed to do so. Result: non-collection. Who is at fault: YOU.

Not rocket science is it.

iklboo · 05/07/2018 13:29

We aim to collect missed bins as soon as possible after receiving forms.

Which could be the next bin day. They're not going to arrange for a whole crew to come out for one bin that you forgot to put out.

Lockheart · 05/07/2018 13:33

I live in a big London council area and they always collect our bins from the garden (as they do with the rest of the street), and return them to the garden. We don’t put ours on the pavement because then wheelchair users and people with buggies can’t get past.

If your council explicitly states you have to put your bins on the pavement then this is your fault, but I agree it’s not beyond the wit of man to get bins from gardens, as evidenced by our binmen every Wednesday.

Glumglowworm · 05/07/2018 13:35

YABU

it’s your own fault! The world does not revolve around you

YearOfYouRemember · 05/07/2018 13:36

Your post at 13:09 is for people who have put their bin out correctly and the bin men have missed it ime.

Laiste · 05/07/2018 13:38

But if your bin didn’t need emptying because you’d been away or whatever then you wouldn’t put it out. That’s what they’ll assume. They’re not going to run up and down steps to check if an un put out bin is in fact full and empty it anyway! Otherwise everyone will just stop putting the bins where they should be and the round will take ages and the poor bloody bin men will have twice the work load.

MidniteScribbler · 05/07/2018 13:39

Seriously?? FFS. you forgot to put your bin out. Deal with it like a fucking grown up and accept that you will need to pull your head in this week and make sure you have as little waste as possible as you don't have much bin space. Fucks sake, are there really so many adults who can't just accept that they've fucked up, and deal with it for a week? (And yes, I've forgotten to put my bin out at times and have just dealt with it, rather than sulk because the bin guy didn't walk up my driveway to deal with my fuck up).

Anyonewhoknows · 05/07/2018 13:40

Our bin men and women are fab. On the rare occasion I have forgotten to put mine out they grab it off my drive way. They also slow down when going past my kitchen window to wave at my sons who are mesmerised by them.
I tip them every Christmas - they are great.

HairDyedPink · 05/07/2018 13:41

It's annoying, but yes, it's your fault and either you'll wait or you take your rubbish to the tip.

There's not one bin on show around here, I can't picture the binmen having to find a way to climb side gates and doors to retrieve bins Grin
I much rather take the bin on the path every week to save them time than having collection changed to a 3-weekly collection!

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 05/07/2018 13:42

Sorry op, but hopefully you will eventually learn to put your bins out. It’s called adulthood or adulting!

You do sound entitled, nobody is at fault here (well, you are but...)

Please answer me this, if you forgot to pick up your child from nursery or pick up your bag of shopping from the trolly when you pushed the trolly to your car, would you expect someone else to do it? Does someone have to remind you to go to bed early when you have a 5am flight, or just to clean your teeth? Stop with the attitude and learn a lesson.. that being You, and only you are responsible for how you organise your life.

Looneytune253 · 05/07/2018 13:42

@InTheLightOfTheMoon that segment from their website sounds like it’s meant for when the bin men have missed a street out. I can’t imagine they would ever intend they would come back for everyone’s individual bin if the tenant has forgot.

Haberpop · 05/07/2018 13:42

"Missed bin" collection doesn't work like that in my experience, it is for bins the lorries have missed not for bins that the owners have forgotten to put out. They offer a service, if you miss it then you have to either suck it up until the next collection or take it to the tip yourself, if they miss a collection due to an error on their part then they endeavour to get back to you a soon as possible.

PolkerrisBeach · 05/07/2018 13:47

what type of collection has been missed and the location of your bin.

You are misunderstanding what a missed collection is. A missed collection is when there's a new driver and a whole street is missed, or when you put your bins on the pavement and they didn't pick it up.

It's an error-correction facility. Not an on-demand service for those too lazy to get off their arses and put their bins on the pavement.

laptopdisaster · 05/07/2018 13:48

If you didn't put it out, you have to wait til next week. recollections are where it's in the right place and they've forgotten it. you'll have to wait til next week.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:50

No I will use the other bin instead as its full.

Hahahaha this is hilarious.
You forgot, oh well. Thems the breaks.

PattiStanger · 05/07/2018 13:51

I think you're misunderstanding what a missed bin collection is.

Do you really think that the council sends bin lorries round to the houses for individuals who can't remember to put their bins out?

Maryann1975 · 05/07/2018 13:52

I think they mean they will come back for any bins they have missed by mistake, not for bins that haven’t been placed on the kerb at all. I can’t believe you think they should have come looking for your bin! They presumably have a time scale and if they come to get your bin, then you might expect them to do the same next week and then your neighbour will think, what a good idea, thebin men collect their bin from the garden, so they can get mine and very soon the bin men are looking for everyone’s bin and taking the whole day to do what should take a couple of hours.
Remember to put your own bin out next week!

HairDyedPink · 05/07/2018 13:52

I do wish they would to catch up when we go on holiday Grin

NannyR · 05/07/2018 13:54

Hopefully you don't mean you're going to fill up the recycling bin because your general rubbish bin is full, like my neighbour who never puts her bin out for collection, they won't empty the recycling bin because it's contaminated now so it's just sat attracting flies because she won't take it to the tipAngry

MidniteScribbler · 05/07/2018 13:55

Not here either. Bins go back behind gates after collection. Our local council rules says that they can't be out before 6pm the night before collection day, and must be put away by 8pm on bin collection day. Ours are collected at about 6:00am for the general waste bin weekly, 11am fortnightly for the recycling bin, and about 2pm on alternate fortnights for the green bin. Outside of that, bins all disappear behind gates for the rest of the week and you don't see them. The majority are behind locked gates, so no garbage collector is ever going to go searching for them because the owner was too slack to put them out.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:56

no will fill up the garden waste bin.

and missing a bin is really not the same as forgetting a child at nursery get a grip!

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:57

ours are all in the front gardens!
