Bin men not taking bin away?

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:01

The bin men have been today and it completely slipped my mind to put my bin out! So they have left it, if I dont put it down the steps out of my garden they wont touch it. Aibu to think its silly? Also if i call the council to arrange a recollection they just never show up! and only collect it next bin day.

HairDyedPink · 05/07/2018 13:59

no will fill up the garden waste bin.
and do what when the binmen refuse to collect it if it's full of rubbish? If you are really struggling, you need a trip to the local tip - I am sure it's free if you don't turn up in a tradesman van!
(understandable why, but unfair on people who only own a work van!)

Sirzy · 05/07/2018 13:59

You do realise they won’t empty a garden waste bin full of general waste?

Being a bin man must be one of the worst jobs going in this weather without having added hassle of people who can’t be arsed to get it out in time

HilaryBriss · 05/07/2018 14:01

They probably did see it but how would they know that it needed emptying? My bin doesn't go out every collection day if it isn't full.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 14:02

Its full as in lid not shut. They will take the garden waste bin, ive done it before.

SleepPatternOfABat · 05/07/2018 14:02

Oh this is priceless.

soulrider · 05/07/2018 14:03

If you have a wheelie bin you'll be surprised how much you can compress everything if you get in and jump up and down a bit.

MidniteScribbler · 05/07/2018 14:03

The only time I've ever had to call my council for 'missed bin' was after a major bush fire. We always had to take our bins to the opposite side of the road for collection, but we'd had a bushfire that had only just missed our properties (due to everyone standing on the side of the road with their hoses, emptying their water tanks, to stop the fire crossing the road). We couldn't take the bin's across the road as that side of the road was completely burnt out. All of the neighbours and I called the council and explained the situation and they had the truck come back and collect from our side of the road for a couple of months.

LeighaJ · 05/07/2018 14:04

@InTheLightOfTheMoon

"and missing a bin is really not the same as forgetting a child at nursery get a grip!"

Don't forget to save a grip for yourself love.

gillybeanz · 05/07/2018 14:04

The bin wasn't missed though, you forgot to put it out Grin
Of course you need to wait until next collection now, they aren't at your beck and call.
All councils are different e.g we need ours on the front grass verge by 7am on collection day. We don't get up that early so they go out with all our other neighbours at night.
They return the bins to the grass verge and we have to have moved them by 7pm on collection day.
The houses up the road have a completely different arrangement.
You need to check the arrangement for your street and act accordingly.
I can't believe the sheer dumbness and entitlement of some people, it surprises me how they manage to get through life. Confused

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/07/2018 14:07

You’re going to put general waste in garden waste.Hmm You can usually get special bags for additional rubbish.

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:08

You can't put your general rubbish in a garden waste bin, that's ridiculous!

Our bin men are great, and we are fairly open plan outside where we are, but we have to put them on the road. Not on the drive. Not in the garden. Not round the corner. Out on the road. Fair do's.

You will have to wait or deal with it. Do NOT call them back because you forgot! That's not what I pay my council tax for - forgetful people!

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 14:08

Im dumb for forgetting to put a bin out? You would think I was the only one who had ever forgot to put one out.

OP posts:
InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 14:09

My bin is full. We are a family of 5. Got no choice but to use an alternative bin.

OP posts:
soulrider · 05/07/2018 14:11

It's not that you forgot to put it out, it's that you think it's someone else's problem to sort out.

We forget to put our bins out occasionally. When we do I get a big piece of cardboard and put it on top of the rubbish and then jump up and down. Pretty much always gains half a wheelie bin of space.

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:11

Go to the tip! What's the point in having a garden rubbish bin if people dump general waste in there? Defeats the whole object. The garden waste bin will be emptied at a different location and won't be able to cope with general rubbish

Just go to the tip and the inconvenience means you probably won't forget again.

LighthouseSouth · 05/07/2018 14:11

OP your definition of missed bin collection really made me laugh Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/07/2018 14:12

I don’t think you’re dumb for forgetting to put your waste out. I think it because you believe you aren’t responsible for your rubbish not being collected. I also think you’re dumb for intending to put general waste in a garden waste bin. Yes you do have a choice. BUY THE ADDITIONAL WASTE BAGS FROM THE COUNCIL.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 14:14

Not everyone drives you know!

OP posts:
BellBookandCandle · 05/07/2018 14:14

You've gotta love the OP - she's not wrong or unreasonable despite evidence to the contrary.

May I suggest you check your council website and see what it says - it is probably along the lines of "....bins should be out for collection by 6:00am on the day the collection is due".

Can't believe you are too lazy to sort out your refuse and are going to fill the garden waste bin. It's attitudes like that which mean services like the garden waste collection get cancelled. Really glad I don't live on your street, but have decent, clean and tidy neighbours.

Sparklesocks · 05/07/2018 14:15

OP: Aibu?

MN: yes

OP: no

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 05/07/2018 14:15

Are you the same poster who didn’t know how to fold cardboard boxes to fit more into your recycling bin and was filling your black bin up with rubbish in 2 days? You were utterly clues on that thread too.

Luki · 05/07/2018 14:16

You can't put your general rubbish in a garden waste bin, that's ridiculous!

I do this but in reverse Blush We have two general waste bins (which we don't need) so I have occasionally used this second waste bin for garden waste. I prop the lid open so the bin men can see what's in it and I put it out at the same time as our other garden bins. (Garden and general never get emptied on the same day so no chance of a mix-up). Luckily there has never been an issue with doing this.

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 14:18

No this is the first time ive posted this problem.

OP posts:
Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:19

OK, if you dont' drive and you have a DP who doesn't and there is no one you know who would take you to the tip as a favour such as family or friends... you will have to minimise your rubbish for the next collection by doing what a PP said - get in the bin and stamp on it (we do this) and try and cut down. But don't fill a garden refuse bin with general rubbish pleeeease....

Hopefully if you ignore everyone and do (sounds like you've done it before) they'll spot it this time.
