Bin men not taking bin away?

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/07/2018 13:01

The bin men have been today and it completely slipped my mind to put my bin out! So they have left it, if I dont put it down the steps out of my garden they wont touch it. Aibu to think its silly? Also if i call the council to arrange a recollection they just never show up! and only collect it next bin day.

you will have to minimise your rubbish for the next collection by doing what a PP said - get in the bin and stamp on it

I’m having de ja vu! The last thread was full of this advice too. OP just did not get it.

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:22

Our bin men will not not not take garden rubbish in general rubbish bins and vice versa. Don't blame them! It goes to different depots and is dealt with seperately.

We were black bags up until a couple of years ago. My NDN used to fill a black bag with garden clippings and put paper and general rubbish on the top. They got wise to that and always poked a hole in his bags to see what was in them! Then wouldn't take anything! (He refused to buy garden refuse bags, and he is very well off... serves him right!)

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:23

I'm always helping my DH get in the bin! He quite enjoys doing it!

yes, we are odd

ReservoirDogs · 05/07/2018 14:24

missed bin collection means when the council fails to collect on the day they are supposed to - not when you forget!!

Good grief!

pigsDOfly · 05/07/2018 14:25

Long ago when I was a child our dustbins were made of some sort of corrugated metal. They were collected from each garden from where ever they were in the garden by the dustmen, as they were known then.

The dustmen would lift them onto their back and carry them to the lorry and tip the rubbish over their shoulder into the lorry.

People were horrified when wheelie bins came in and they had to wheel them to the street.

Maybe OP is still hankering after those bygone days.

jumblefun2 · 05/07/2018 14:26

the council here don't lift the bin if the lid isn't completely closed.

RedSaidBread · 05/07/2018 14:27

In this weather your bin's going to be stinking in no time if you leave it. I'd advise you try and get a family member, friend or someone who does drive to help you take your bins to the tip. And set a reminder for your next bin collection. Sorted. Smile

Clubcuts · 05/07/2018 14:30

because my council offers that service.

I think they offer the service for bins they've missed, not random I didn't fancy a Thursday collection can you do the following Monday.

user1471596238 · 05/07/2018 14:31

OP I think that the request for rearranging a collection is for when they have failed to. collect your bin that was left out at the required time - not for when you forgot to put it out. I might be wrong about that but given the financial constraints that all local authorities are operating under, I would be surprised if they would send out a lorry under the circumstances that you have surprised.

Assuming that you have access to a car, could you not take the bin bags to your local refuse site?

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 05/07/2018 14:32

Just found your the last thread. Also a family of five, no drivers, and bins emptied on a Thursday....

You have bin issues OP.

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:32

She doesn't have a car user, that has been posted about just a few post ago

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:33

Personally, I don't understand how anyone can forget. It's not as if it changes every week!

Coffeeisyourfriend · 05/07/2018 14:34

Tbh I'd be quite miffed if the bin men felt comfortable enough to take the bins from my garden, especially since they are round the back.
I have forgotten to put them out on a number of occasions but have never filed a missed collection form because it was my fault not theirs so why should I make them come back later? I just make do, fill as much as I can in the bin that was missed then put anything extra in bags and leave next to the bins until the next collections due.
YABU to think they should have gone out of their way to check & empty your bin from in your garden and definitely BU to think they should come back to empty just one bin when it wasn't their fault it was missed in the first place!

BlueSapp · 05/07/2018 14:35

Christ on a bike! Why don't you recycle the food waste and garden waste into the correct bin in the first place and then you'll need less space in the ordinary bin!

PinkBuffalo · 05/07/2018 14:35

Ours won't collect bins if they are not at the kerb side.
My rubbish wheelie bin wasnt collected this week. When I enquired they said it was "too heavy" for the bin men.
There's only me in the house, it's only half full with a couple of black sacks, and 8 1/2 stone me managed to wheel it with no problem taking it down to the kerb Hmm

MidniteScribbler · 05/07/2018 14:36

Just found your the last thread. Also a family of five, no drivers, and bins emptied on a Thursday....

You would think that with five people in the house, that someone could remember to say 'bin'.

user1471596238 · 05/07/2018 14:36

Thanks Roussette. I can empathise as I've forgotten myself in the past - easily done but the problem is more apparent when the weather is so hot.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 05/07/2018 14:37

surely you would have noticed your neighbours had put their bins out?

I miss mine occasionally, its my fault and I have to wait til the next collection.

Stop sounding so entitled and acting as if you are the victim here, its your own fault!

DrWhy · 05/07/2018 14:38

They won’t come out to collect a single bin that wasn’t put out unless you are very lucky and maybe the lorry is passing the end of the road. Talk to your neighbours very nicely and see if they have any space left next bin day that you can put some rubbish in.
We missed a collection last year because I’d gone into labour the evening that I put them out and wasn’t back by the right time the next morning! Even under those circumstances they wouldn’t collect. Fortunately our bin wasn’t totally full so the 2 weeks nappies went in that and some nice neighbours had space for our other general rubbish.

EB123 · 05/07/2018 14:38

This post is hilarious. I can't believe anyone is daft enough to think that their council offers a service to come and collect your bin if you forget to put it out.

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 05/07/2018 14:39

missing a bin is really not the same as forgetting a child at nursery get a grip!

I have a grip, and an empty bin, don’t ask for advice then be rude and entitled just because you don’t like the advice. You’re clueless, rude and very arrogant.

Roussette · 05/07/2018 14:39

When they changed our days I was in a total mess remember what went out what day (we do a fortnightly thing here) and I agree it's worse when the weather is hot.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/07/2018 14:40

I want to read the other bin thread now, can someone link please :)

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 05/07/2018 14:40

Oh and for your information, when I purposely don’t put my bins out, my binmen walk up our drive and fetch them! I’d tell you how and why, but I’m too busy collecting grips.

ShotsFired · 05/07/2018 14:42

I don't put my bin out each week (lone adult so very little). I 'm now worried the bin men will come searching for my bin down the side of the house every week and I'll get a bad name for not putting it on the kerb!

Am loving how OP things the missed bin collection info is like an appointment service
