WIBU to take a doll to the barbers?

Trying to get a sense-check if this is bonkers before I do it and look like a fool. DS1 is four at the end of July, and for the last couple of months has kept asking for his birthday if he can have a ‘toy DS1’. His little friend has a doll that looks just like her which I think has given him the idea. However, I’m struggling to find a boy doll that isn’t a baby, and the couple I have found are expensive and don’t have the right hair and eye colours. I’m starting to wonder about buying a girl doll with the right colouring, and taking it for a haircut. I’d do it myself but I’m pretty sure I’d make a terrible mess of it. If I explained to a barber, do you think they’d give a doll a short back and sides?

A doll that is a mini him is weird.
I imagine the barber would laugh you out of the shop.

Dolls hair can be difficult to style. I reckon my hairdresser would have a crack at it though.

No idea if it exists but I’d there something like ‘build a bear’ but for dolls so you can put the correct eye/hair colour/style together?

Awww I think it's sweet and it's the kind of thing I can imagine my DS liking (4 in September). Maybe try phoning round some barbers to get a feel for whether they'll help or laugh at you! Or would your own hairdresser do it as she knows you?

Have you looked at the American Girl Truly Me dolls

From my extensive experience in giving barbie dolls haircuts, I don’t think the strands are placed close enough on a doll for a short back and sides to work. Might be easier to convince dd to grow his hair long and make himself look like an existing doll than the other way around

Do you have any friends or relatives that are good with a pair of scissors? I'm all for buying the doll & cutting the hair but I'm not sure what reaction you'd get the barber's

Take him to a shop and let him choose a doll he likes, action man? Isn’t there a boy Barbie dill?

By all means get your son a doll and give it a haircut but seriously don’t take it to a barbershop. Also don’t forget about finding suitable boy clothes for the doll.

And is it really that hard to find a boy doll? I’m in the US but I’ve seen them in Walmart and American Girl makes boys, there’s a particularly creepy one that goes by the name of Logan! Amazon also have tons (I’ve just searched).

Yes I wondered if it would be hard to style as it doesn’t sit like real hair does it. His friend’s doll, which I think has prompted this, is exactly like her colouring-wise but they also have matching headbands and t-shirts which I think is what appeals to him. It’s funny what small children think is wonderful! So possibly any boy doll would do and I’ll try to get matching tops or something.
