WIBU to take a doll to the barbers?

Trying to get a sense-check if this is bonkers before I do it and look like a fool. DS1 is four at the end of July, and for the last couple of months has kept asking for his birthday if he can have a ‘toy DS1’. His little friend has a doll that looks just like her which I think has given him the idea. However, I’m struggling to find a boy doll that isn’t a baby, and the couple I have found are expensive and don’t have the right hair and eye colours. I’m starting to wonder about buying a girl doll with the right colouring, and taking it for a haircut. I’d do it myself but I’m pretty sure I’d make a terrible mess of it. If I explained to a barber, do you think they’d give a doll a short back and sides?

Oh and by the way OP when my kids were small you could get a big boy doll called Sam I think. Sorry don’t have a link though.

Blithering boy dolls have a little penis and girl dolls have a crease so certainly distinguishable

BlitheringIdiots · 20/06/2018 13:12

You live and learn eh. I thought dolls were just smooth and generic lol

Hyppolyta · 20/06/2018 13:20

In our large Symths toy store they have a range called Our Generation which had a few different boy dolls, so you may be able to find the right hair and eye combo.

They dont seem to be on the website but if you live near one its worth having a look.

It's not hard to cut a doll's hair mostly because they sit still and have perfectly even hair usually to start with. I'm sure there are YouTube how to videos.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/06/2018 13:37

Its very likely I'm missing something. I'm the first to admit I don't go beyond the joke with the quickness to cotton on, but why don't you just buy him a boy doll.

PiffyGumtree · 20/06/2018 13:45

DH is a barber and would cut a doll's hair for you. If you buy a doll and take it to a barber and explain, especially ones that do kids cuts, you'll find someone who'll do it for you.

Would the boy Lottie doll work? My daughter had a couple of these, she liked that they can stand up

Give him the doll and supervise him with a pair of scissors. Cutting your doll's hair and your own is a childhood rite of passage.

Myheartbelongsto · 20/06/2018 14:01

This is the thread we'll talk about around the dinner table this evening.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 20/06/2018 14:07

Try Moulin Roty or Corolle dolls - they may have a range of boy dolls. I think it's really sweet:)

Cheeseandcrisps · 20/06/2018 14:14

Who cares sometimes we have to do some crazy shit for our kids. Go for it OP so what if they think you're just if my dd asked for something like that and a dolly just needed a bloody hair cut I would in a heart beat I wouldn't care what others thought if it was something my child really wanted.

Cheeseandcrisps · 20/06/2018 14:15

Sorry I meant to say so what if they think you're nuts! Lol

lhastingsmua · 20/06/2018 14:25

Get him a doll if you want but don’t take it to the barbers ffs. It would be like taking a female doll for a trim at a hair salon. Even though it’s easy money for them I’m sure, they will probably rather spend that time on actual clients?

Thehop · 20/06/2018 14:28

I would take it! Bless him

SecretSantaaaaaa · 20/06/2018 14:55

Please don’t take a doll for a haircut. They will think you are crazy

THIS

Seriously OP?

You can't take a doll for a haircut. I can picture it now, draping the gown over him. Asking how his day has been

Worriedaboutdog · 20/06/2018 15:20

Oh gosh this has grown! Thank you for all the helpful suggestions - will look them up! And Secret I wasn’t planning on the doll having the full salon experience Grin.

My hairdresser would totally do this. I've pm you to see if local

BackToBeingMe · 20/06/2018 16:09

Smyths and the Our Generation website do boy dolls, you purchase matching outfits to. I attached one for demonstration purposes but there are different ones available. You can get cool cars and bike for them to drive to

That is from Smyths Toy Store

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 20/06/2018 21:30

What about the boy (Finn) that is Lottie's friend? There are lots of boy dolls out there already...Maybe shop around for one that looks like him and look at getting them matching clothes?

Toni4618 · 23/06/2018 17:25

A barbers wouldn’t be able to cut the hair unless the doll had human hair as professional scissors are only supposed to be used on human hair if they cut anything else other they blunt them straight away. Being a barber myself I would cut it if someone come in and requested it. I think if he wants a doll, Get him one, your probably better asking someone to do it for you with some old hairdressing scissors or kitchen scissors. But go for it

Craftylittlething · 23/06/2018 17:28

My daughter wanted to take her car to the garage to get it fixed. We did, he was great. Most people are parents and decent enough to do something kind- in my experience.
