Things that belong in chocolate

  • Nuts
  • Mint
  • Orange

Things that definitely DO NOT belong in chocolate

  • Ginger
  • Chilli
  • Lime
  • Chilli and lime together. Abomination.

Am I right?

Of course you are right. I blame the EU myself.

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:08

I'm pretty sure it's a Russian conspiracy. Polonium chocolate next up.

Not nuts, nuts in chocolate is very wrong
Agree on the rest though

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:09

What about praline hopping? Technically nuts or not?

lime and chocolate?
Grim Confused

It is A Thing. Colleague just bought chilli and lime chocolate. It is as horrible as it sounds.

Think I should have given this thread a trigger warning.

I like ginger in chocolate.

Not lime or chilli though

StepBackNow · 14/06/2018 13:11

salted caramel - vile beyond belief. Keep it away from chocolate.

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:11

I don't mind ginger flavour. I don't like lumps of it.

I don't like lumps of actual orange either.

Chocolate should not resemble health food.

DH once very thoughtfully got me a Hotel Chocolat advent calendar which was 24 of the weirdest and inedible chocolate combinations I have ever seen. Fig and parsley. Banana and popcorn. Steak and chips. Cumin and 70% cocoa solids. Sea salt and seaweed. Obvs I might not be remembering some of these correctly but God it was 24 days of constant letdown and [vom]

PietariKontio · 14/06/2018 13:12

Agreed, apart from ginger, ginger is ace. Also agree with StepBackNow re salted caramel - urgggh!

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:14

Ave - Nooooo!

I had a banana chocolate in a Prestat box. I felt compelled to write them a strongly worded letter.

OP posts:
SoftBlocks · 14/06/2018 13:14

I like all of them!

DuchyDuke · 14/06/2018 13:15

The original chocolate, as eaten by the Mayan civilisation, was sweet and savoury and definitely had chilli and herbs and other spices.

It’s the Western World that has ruined chocolate.

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 13:15

Have you tried Lavender chocolate. Chocolate texture, furniture polish taste.

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:16

softblocks even cheese and onion crisp chocolate?

To think this is an abomination.

Ginger totally belongs in dark chocolate you fool!

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 13:18

Mint or orange do not belong in chocolate. Ginger on it's own, fine, but not in chocolate. Fruits or nuts - depends on the chocolate. Another urgggh! for salted caramel. Just wrong.

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:18

I feel like I need a taxomony of ginger chocolate now

Border's ginger chocolate biscuits = amazingness

Lumps of ginger with chocolate on the outside = terrible category mistake.

As much as I like marmite, it doesn't belong in chocolate or crisps.

critiqueofeveryday · 14/06/2018 13:20

"As much as I like marmite, it doesn't belong in chocolate or crisps."

All sane human beings surely would agree with this. Ditto for lime and chilli and cheese and onion crisps.

I love chilli chocolate. I have just had a chilli hot chocolate at Hotel Chocolat, it was yum.

Amandinezea · 14/06/2018 13:22

My brother brought me back some Smirnoff vodka chocolate from a school skiing trip when we were teenagers. It was the weirdest thing ever - domes of hollow chocolate filled with neat vodka that ran out when you bit into it

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 14/06/2018 13:23

I love all of those. Now strawberry or coffee cream in chocolate is a different matter. They can just fuck off.

user1499173618 · 14/06/2018 13:23

Have you been to Modica, in Sicily? You might find, if you had been, that some of the flavours you do not believe belong in chocolate have in fact been combined with chocolate for centuries.
