Am I the only one who gets completely fucked off with all the stupid abbreviations on here?! DS DD DH STBXH DN DGF fucking hell can't people just write it normally? Sometimes you get seven abbreviations in one paragraph it's so annoying trying to remember what mean what!

OP posts:
MrsFogi · 10/06/2018 22:20

Ah no they're great - they keep the hoi polloi out Wink

Sparklingbrook · 10/06/2018 22:21

YABU. It's always been like that, it's unique to the site. But you can write Husband/daughter number two/soon to be ex husband etc if you wish.

After a bit you don't even notice the abbreviations.

ItDoesMyHeadIn · 10/06/2018 22:22

MrsFogi - ho po?! What?! Hocus Pocus?!

OP posts:
gamerchick · 10/06/2018 22:22

You don't need to use them, I dont. It'll be irritating for a while but you get used to it.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 10/06/2018 22:23

It's not unique to the site is it? I remember seeing DH,DD, OH etc years ago on the TES chat boards.

Astrid2 · 10/06/2018 22:23

What pisses me off is when people write 'DDog' or 'DAunt'... why the hell do they put the D??

I always read DD as dear darling and STBXH as shit the bed ex husband Shock

Tessliketrees · 10/06/2018 22:23

Husband saw me typing "my DH ...." He recognised himself from what I was typing and asked if it stood for "Dickhead".

He then laughed for 20 minutes straight when I told him what it actually stood for.

Sparklingbrook · 10/06/2018 22:25

I have never been on the TES chat boards (whatever they are) ThisIsNotARealAvo so no idea. Of the sites I have been on I have only seen the abbreviations on here so assumed they were from here.

UrsulaPandress · 10/06/2018 22:26

Bless.

Hoi polloi

CoughLaughFart · 10/06/2018 22:27

I hate them too. I sort of get why typing ‘DH’ is easier than typing ‘husband’, but it’s when people make them up that I can’t stnwd. I’ve actually seen people in here type me ‘STBXBIL’. Are you really telling me that’s easier than typing ‘My ex’s brother’?

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 10/06/2018 22:27

Nope in fact I think we should make more.

SSTIYPASI Smile

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/06/2018 22:27

Don’t use them then.

BeansandSausages · 10/06/2018 22:28

STBXH to me was stupid bastard ex husband. Whoops!

TheActualRealCinderella · 10/06/2018 22:29

What does yy mean?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 10/06/2018 22:33

I've never been able to decipher hth?? Why did that mean?

WonderTweek · 10/06/2018 22:34

Haha. They do irk me a bit but we don’t have to use them, so I don’t. GrinSometimes I’m genuinely baffled by some of them and if there’s a million DSTBXH things I just get bored and read something else, but I’m kind of used to them now so they don’t bother me that much anymore.

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 10/06/2018 22:36

HTH hope that helps.

I always though yy was just yes yes.

Slipp3rs · 10/06/2018 22:37

I’ve never know what OP stands for? Blush

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2018 22:37

'yy' is just 'yes, yes' I think.

'HTH' is 'hope that helps', often used sarcastically but not always. It depends on the overall tone of the message.

maras2 · 10/06/2018 22:38

Whole list of abbreviations available.
TBQH (to be quite honest) I hate most of them and usually use full words/sentences but it helps if you familiarise yourself so you can be arsey but DGAS(don't give a shit) Grin

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2018 22:38

OP is 'original poster', the person who started the thread.

QueenArseClangers · 10/06/2018 22:39

Original Poster.

Tessliketrees · 10/06/2018 22:40

OP is as old as internet message boards and by no means exclusive to MN. It can mean Opening/original Post or Original Poster depending on context.

QueenArseClangers · 10/06/2018 22:40

Do you really not know what the hoi polloi is? Confused

Slipp3rs · 10/06/2018 22:41

Thank you Smile
