Am I the only one who gets completely fucked off with all the stupid abbreviations on here?! DS DD DH STBXH DN DGF fucking hell can't people just write it normally? Sometimes you get seven abbreviations in one paragraph it's so annoying trying to remember what mean what!

The trans-related acronyms don't seem to be listed on the MN list. Can anyone help with them? - despite haunting the feminism threads for quite a number of months now I have not yet fathomed them.

MeMyShelfandIkea · 15/06/2018 09:40

I find DF the most confusing as it could refer to father, friend or fiance and sometimes even reading the post doesn't make it clear!

I find the recent use of CF a bit irritating and in-jokey for newcomers to Mumsnet. At least [insert hilarious witticism here]-zilla can still be worked out.

MissionItsPossible · 15/06/2018 09:43

Does anyone remember the thread when the OP got outraged at someone who told them ODFOD because they thought it meant Oh Do Fuck Off and Die? 😂😂😂

Snapnfart · 15/06/2018 09:45

I didn’t know what CF meant and in my head it was ‘C*nt Face’ so I still read it as that! Grin
Most threads make me think, ‘yes, your mil does sound like a bit of a c**t face’

ItDoesMyHeadIn · 15/06/2018 11:39

I find it all very immature to be honest, just bloody type proper words!

I find the abbreviations for relatives to be extremely cutesy, therefore annoying. Just talk like a grown-up for heaven's sake.

I always read STBXH as
Stupid Twatting Bastard Ex Husband. Just me?

HerSymphonyAndSong · 16/06/2018 09:59

“I find it all very immature to be honest, just bloody type proper words!”

You will need to time travel back to early message boards to tell them this. It is common usage on many forums

CheeseGirl4 · 16/06/2018 10:14

I cannot abide all the acronyms. Most aren't exclusive to Mumsnet but are remnants from the early days of online forums. They're old fashioned, twee, and they undermine communication.

Usernamesareboring · 16/06/2018 10:36

It is so bloody annoying, particularly when the same abbreviation gets used to mean different things by people e.g I've seen DF mean father or friend, and DN mean Niece, nephew and neighbour. And even if abbreviations are used, why oh why does everything have to be 'D' 🤯

BIWI · 16/06/2018 13:07

You don't have to stay on MN if you dislike it all so much! Grin

And nor - if you stay - do you have to use the abbreviations.

ForalltheSaints · 16/06/2018 13:35

OP YABU!

SockQueen · 16/06/2018 13:38

Most forums and other forms of social media use some kind of local abbreviations/slang. It's always happened.

GoldenButtercup · 16/06/2018 13:53

FWIW ISWYM Smile

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 16/06/2018 14:42

I know what is means but I still read STBXH as ‘stab the barstard ex husband’
