This is all getting a bit serious now.
So about a month ago we find a pair of men’s socks in our pile of clean washing.
Neither of us have ever seen them before. They are a cartoon character pair so quite distinctive. We pondered over where they had come from, asked family, everyone denied knowledge so we just put the matter to bed.
Anyway, 2 weeks ago we find another pair of men’s socks on the floor in our bedroom. Trainer socks. Neither of us own trainer socks.
Only close family been here, all deny knowledge and it’s only my parents and sister that have been round. Parents don’t wear trainer socks and socks far too big for my sister. Also a bit grubby/dirty.
There has been a builder here, but he’s been in boots so doubt he’d wear trainer socks and if so why take them off?
DH started to get a bit suspicious.
There must be a reason why strange socks are appearing right?
Kids are preschoolers so nothing to do with them.

Not an adventurous cat nicking them off someones washing line?

WorraLiberty · 04/06/2018 21:45

Get a camera

CalmConfident · 04/06/2018 21:47

Maybe you are the opposite end of a sock worm hole to our house...DH has lost all his trainer socks! No cartoon ones though...just those ones with days of the week on!

daffodillament · 04/06/2018 21:48

How intriguing ! No ideas but are you sure it isn't anything to do with the builder ? Weird !

detective123 · 04/06/2018 21:48

It’s ever so weird.
We moved in 6 months ago, but changed all the locks so it’s no-one getting in.

Plus burglar alarm would be triggered!
Bloody extra socks 🙄

Did you have a loft and is the hatch locked???Shock

cardibach · 04/06/2018 21:50

The phenomenon of the random sleepover sock was a thing in our house whe DD was younger. Usually only one, but sometimes a pair - any young persons been visiting?

PattiStanger · 04/06/2018 21:51

This has happened to me before, one odd sock that definitely doesn't belong to anyone in my house and more recently a single glove in my car again with no known owner.

I have no clue where either came from, I don't have a cat or any visitors who would have left a single sock behind

detective123 · 04/06/2018 21:51

Builder wasn’t here when the first pair were found.
Was here when the second pair were found.
Haven’t asked him as only found them after he’d left and would feel a bit odd calling him to ask if he left his socks.
Parents were here supervising the building work for me and said he had boots on the whole time (they particularly paid attention as they knew I’d get twitchy if I’d seen him as I don’t allow shoes on carpet usually)
Can’t imagine he would remove boots, take off trainer socks and leave them on bedroom floor though?

StealthPolarBear · 04/06/2018 21:51

Did they look worn or clean?were they bundled together, folded or apart?

detective123 · 04/06/2018 21:53

The first cartoon pair looked pretty new and immaculate. But were found folded in the clean laundry basket.
Trainer sock pair look grubby. Were found bunched up on bedroom floor. I have since washed them tho as presumed they may be a pair of DH that he pulled from the back of his drawer and wore for some reason. Obviously not though!

whatislionshare · 04/06/2018 21:54

Sock ghost! There is no other explanation

FirstOfMyName · 04/06/2018 21:56

Check your loft space? But only when it’s not just you & dh in the house?

detective123 · 04/06/2018 21:57

Only got a dog, so don’t think he’s bringing them in.
It’s doing my head in now! I can kinda see DH point. If random pairs of women’s socks were turning up in the house what would I think?!

OP posts:
endofagain · 04/06/2018 21:58

We had a similar isdue with underpants. It was the builder.
I am not going to put anything more on here.
Get a camera.

detective123 · 04/06/2018 21:58

Not loft space. Been up there loads lately doing electrics for the downlighters.
Totally empty. Plus it’s a detached house so no one else can get in. And like I said our burglar alarm would be triggered.

Issue.

Halebeke425 · 04/06/2018 21:58

How intriguing!

No new ideas here, however I see your socks and raise you a random spider man plastic kids plate. Appeared in the cupboard stacked up with the rest of the plates as if it'd always been there. Both dp and I were puzzled, definitely a new development, our kids don't really have character stuff and we don't make a habit of bringing spider man plates home and forgetting about them. Both children swear blind they've never seen it before in their lives.

Strange times.

Bookemdannoplease · 04/06/2018 21:59

Following as intrigued.... but have to ask-does anyone other than u and dh have keys to the house? Were the socks in a ball or separate? Do u have a window open in the room at times?....got my PI hat on...

ImNotMeImSomeoneElse · 04/06/2018 21:59

Is there something your dh isn't telling you?

detective123 · 04/06/2018 22:00

Oh god. The builder has gone now though.
So will see if any reoccurrences happen.
Still can’t imagine it being him, but it’s the most logical answer re the trainer socks.
So whose were the Mickey Mouse socks?

OP posts:
CaffeineAndCrochet · 04/06/2018 22:01

Does DH play sport or go to the gym? Possibly picked them up by mistake or someone mistook his bag for theirs or something.

beIindaBlinked · 04/06/2018 22:01

Could DH be entertaining a fella ?

Probably a stupid question.

PastBananas · 04/06/2018 22:02

Does your dh play sports/ go to the gym? He might be absent-mindedly bundling them up and stuffing them in a bag with his stuff when he leaves.

detective123 · 04/06/2018 22:03

We do have a window open at all times. But back of house not really overlooked, quite a big padlocked garden around it too.
Socks were bunched up (trainer socks). Mickey Mouse socks were paired neatly as you would after washing them. Can’t be sure that I didn’t actually wash them myself, but then they would have had to have been put in the dirty laundry basket. Only really noticed them when I went to put away the clean washing.
