To think there must be SOME explanation?

This is all getting a bit serious now.
So about a month ago we find a pair of men’s socks in our pile of clean washing.
Neither of us have ever seen them before. They are a cartoon character pair so quite distinctive. We pondered over where they had come from, asked family, everyone denied knowledge so we just put the matter to bed.
Anyway, 2 weeks ago we find another pair of men’s socks on the floor in our bedroom. Trainer socks. Neither of us own trainer socks.
Only close family been here, all deny knowledge and it’s only my parents and sister that have been round. Parents don’t wear trainer socks and socks far too big for my sister. Also a bit grubby/dirty.
There has been a builder here, but he’s been in boots so doubt he’d wear trainer socks and if so why take them off?
DH started to get a bit suspicious.
There must be a reason why strange socks are appearing right?
Kids are preschoolers so nothing to do with them.

Nope he doesn’t do sport or go to the gym. He’s got a very boring life. Work then home.
I only work 10 hours a week and my parents do childcare here while I’m working so husband not ever home alone.

See that u have answered some of my questions already..... Hmmmm..... was thinking maybe an animal but they usu only pick one up not a pair! If yr sister has a key (?) could be she is secretly using yr house for secret assignations.... Do u have a cleaner?

Just remind your DH it’s no more likely to be your ‘bit on the side’ than his.

Someone was going through your jewellery and valuables and put socks on their hands so as not to leave fingerprints? Then dumped the socks?

Maybe you should be suspicious of your DH Grin

Could anyone else possibly have a key? Or are you leaving windows open? We had an issue years back where someone kept coming and tidying our house. Not the worst issue in the world but was quite scary. Turned out it was an elderly man who used to clean the house for previous owners, suffering dementia. He thought it was however many years ago and kept coming to do his job. It was a relief it was nothing sinister but I was heartbroken I had to call the police, he was so confused and upset.

My friend's cat used to bring them socks. But even if a cat was getting in, what are the chances of it bringing a matching pair...

I'd have a Sock Audit continually know your socks (photograph?) And then you can be certain whether they originated inside the house.

How old is your sister? Could she be having “liaisons” in your house whilst you are out?

My sisters got her own posh apartment, much more romantic than my house covered in kids toys! And she’s single so would 100% take men back there! Although she does have a key here.
We do have a cleaner, but she’s not been for the past month as we’ve been having building work and everything’s been up in the air.
Although she does have a key!
She’s happily married tho so doubt she’d sneak people in to entertain them.
PLUS I only work 10 hours a week and bar pre school pick ups and food shop/ toddler groups I don’t really leave the house, so people wouldn’t have time to sneak random men in!

(1) The builder was carrying spare pairs of socks in his pocket, for some reason like wanting a spare pair before/after the gym.

(2) Your husband is having an affair with a man?!

I think (1) is the most likely option...

Reckon they were down the back of the radiator originally, from previous owners, worked their way on to your floor and just got picked up with the washing.

I reckon it was the builder. He’d never been in the house before he started working here.
He is a friend of a friend and kind of a handy man / builder. He charges a daily rate no matter what the job is. He does plumbing, electrics, plastering, building etc. So he never came round to price up the job. We just paid him 7 days labour and he did what he could. So I’m 100% sure he’s not linked to the first socks.
Although trainer socks more plausible. He left a jumper on a couple of occasions which shows he has form for leaving clothing behind, right?!

Sounds weird but could someone have thrown them through yr open window for a joke? This would drive me nuts! At least I realised some magpies or cats/foxes must have been moving marbles around my garden! Maybe you should put up dome posters appealing gor owner of lost mm sox yo come forward.... so ur just being silly now.... maybe u need to sniff out the culprit.... Grin

Deffo not behind the radiator. We’ve had them all off to paint behind them. Nope dd comes out of preschool with the items she has made that day in her hands. Never a pair of dirty socks. Cleaner not been here for a month. Plus she does laundry for other people so would have to have a working washing machine herself.

Well I would have to ask the builder.I just couldn't stand not knowing.! Someone sent me a postcard from abroad years ago and didn't sign it never found out who it was from...
