To ask if your kids watch TV at breakfast

Just that really. Do your kids watch TV while eating their breakfast and if not, what do they do?

No because we eat In our dining room which doesn't have a tv. We play songs on alexa or just talk.

GlassSuppers · 03/06/2018 20:53

If we've got nowhere to go or it's the weekend then yes I put it on. If we need to be somewhere then no as it takes too long!
DD is two so not at school, I don't think I'll have it on when she is, she gets distracted by it too easily.

laloup1 · 03/06/2018 20:53

My step daughter (4) chats and procrastinates and chats and eats and chats and procrastinates ... you get the picture.

scrumpledpaper · 03/06/2018 20:53

@firstimer30s yep my DS does but he's only 18months and enjoys watching Peppa Pig in the morning! He doesn't have the tv on very often other times and he is at Nursery 2 days a week too so I see no harm in it!

siblingrevelryagain · 03/06/2018 20:54

They get up, if early enough they watch a bit of tv whilst they ‘come to’, tv off whilst they eat and get dressed for school. Once they’re all dressed they then watch a bit more if there’s time.

BabiesDontNeedDaddies · 03/06/2018 20:54

Yep, the music channels to get us going in the morning

Mumminmum · 03/06/2018 20:54

no never

Figgygal · 03/06/2018 20:55

No way we have no time in mornings and it's unnecessary imo

littlecabbage · 03/06/2018 20:55

No. We try to restrict screen time, so tv never goes on till at least after lunch, and only if one of them asks to watch something, not just as an electronic babysitter.

What do they do whilst eating breakfast? Err.... eat their breakfast!

IHeartKingThistle · 03/06/2018 20:55

Only at the weekend. No screens on school mornings or we'd never get to school. It's always been the rule so they don't question it.

They have breakfast at the table with DH while I get dressed in peace and then they get dressed.

Avoiding · 03/06/2018 20:56

only at the weekend

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 03/06/2018 20:57

DS does - it's how I know if we're on time. He needs to be sitting down eating toast when Bing starts, so he can be buggering around with yoghurt and grapes during Hey Duggee while I put my face on. After the second Hey Duggee, we need to be out the door.

If Peter Rabbit comes on before we get out the door, I'm running late.

MoodyTwo · 03/06/2018 20:57

We are awake from 4:30 so yes we have tv on, although normally just YouTube nursery rhymes

TeenTimesTwo · 03/06/2018 20:57

No never. I may have R4 on in kitchen though.
At primary we used to practice spellings at breakfast table.

IHeartKingThistle · 03/06/2018 20:58

Oh and if they have extra time they play with their pets or practise their musical instruments. I know that sounds painfully middle class. They don't often have extra time as I'm usually yelling 'well WHY didn't you tell me you didn't have a clean jumper YESTERDAY?!???!' Grin

firstimer30s · 03/06/2018 20:59

@Tawdrylocalbrouhaha, that’s exactly our schedule too!

sockunicorn · 03/06/2018 20:59

No, we dont have a TV in the dining room. I have the radio on. They chat, eat their breakfast and go brush their teeth

firstimer30s · 03/06/2018 21:01

Have indeed been using it to know that DD is ‘rooted to the spot’ while I get ready . But have decided that it is healthier not to... hence it starts tomorrow! But any tips on how nice things to do instead would be appreciated

Dubdoor · 03/06/2018 21:01

No TV before school. Turning it off caused too many fights. Plus we eat in the dining room, and there isn't a TV in there. They mostly just eat and chatter.

Myotherusernameisbest · 03/06/2018 21:03

No. we don't have a TV in the kitchen (where our table is) so no they don't watch tv while eating breakfast. They don't watch tv while eating any meal. what do they do instead? Errrrrrr eat their breakfast Confused

Chilver · 03/06/2018 21:04

During the holidays, yes. During school week, no TV at all.

Highhorse1981 · 03/06/2018 21:06

No never

No judgment but it will never happen.

Aside from anything else, they have scrambled eggs on toast. Followed by fruit mixed in to Greek yoghurt. Not exactly soda friendly food

Highhorse1981 · 03/06/2018 21:06

Sofa

Highhorse1981 · 03/06/2018 21:07

What do they do instead?

Odd question. Talk. Eat. Argue. Talk. Eat. Read. Eat.

Highhorse1981 · 03/06/2018 21:08

“Nice things to do”

How old is she?
