To think 2pm on a Sunday is an anti-social time to barbeque?

One of my sets of neighbours are an obnoxious couple in the early throes of retirement. They have children my age and grandchildren who are toddlers. This time of the year until October now they will be barbequeing almost daily and twice daily on a weekend with the kids and grandkids noisily "enjoying" The garden.

We work full time. The only time we can feasibly peg out washing is the weekends but with this good weather every weekend from 1pm 2pmish their barbeque is fired up and doesn't go off until dinner.

I freely admit I don't like them as it is but this just tips the balance. Do tell me I'm being unreasonable...ill just ignore you keep seething while they stink my washing out.

Glad I don’t live next door to you - you sound like a misery.

RoadToRivendell · 03/06/2018 16:42

Bing you need to sit out in the garden with Classic FM on.

Absolutely not, they have celebrity hosts e.g. Mylene Class. BBC R3 or better still 4.

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 03/06/2018 16:46

Misery Guts

That is all

I think yabu but you already know that. You just don’t like them and are looking for any excuse to hate them anymore. Hmm

JacintaJones · 03/06/2018 17:10

Use your tunble dryer.

AnnabelC · 03/06/2018 17:17

I live in an area where there is lots of house building. I know it’s off topic a bit but the houses are tiny and the room around them almost non existent. I feel sorry for the people in them. No protection from all the things mentioned because some people don’t think about how their behaviour effects others. Nobody minds noise, bbqs etc in moderation. But OP Yabu but it just seems to be the last straw for you. Could you increase the height of the fence and a hedge as well .

ForalltheSaints · 03/06/2018 17:22

2pm on a Sunday not unreasonable. Every day seems ridiculous.

FurryDice · 03/06/2018 17:27

To be fair if you actually read the OP they're doing it CONSTANTLY. That is obviously fairly antisocial.

THIS. I think the OP is getting an unfair hammering. Barbecuing every single day is really antisocial. Not everyone loves the smell and the smoke. I think if the OP had phrased her question not about the washing but the constant bbqing this thread might have gone a different way.

I’m baffled that there are people that have two barbecues a day, both days of the weekend, every weekend for half of the year. Are you being serious?

theunsure · 03/06/2018 17:40

Why does it impact your washing?

I hang out washing while next door bbq’s and vice versa. Doesn’t seem to make any difference, I can’t smell it in the clothes?

BingTheButterflySlayer · 03/06/2018 17:46

guacamoledip our neighbours will have one every weekend night (fri-sun) and at least 2 midweek from about March onwards on any remotely rain free day.

It's bonkers. Wouldn't believe it myself if I didn't live next to them.

BakedBeans47 · 03/06/2018 17:56

I love a BBQ but I must admit I don’t see the need to be having them constantly.

Littletreefrog · 03/06/2018 17:58

I think there is a difference here between gas BBQs and charcoal BBQs in that a gas BBQ is just like grilling things in your house and won't cause many smells other than the smell of food cooking. Charcoal BBQs are a pain in the arse as you have to wait forever to get the right temperature and they smoke a lot and they do encroach quite badly on the neighbours if the smoke is blowing straight into their garden/house. I can't imagine a home having the patience to cook on a charcoal BBQ every meal but a gas one would be a different story.

romany4 · 03/06/2018 18:02

YABU.
My washing goes out early morning before work no matter what day it is

Roussette · 03/06/2018 19:26

But the OP said every day barbecuing. All I can say is... the weather must be better there than here! Surely the weather would't allow barbecues every day. Summer is so short, just let them have a flippin' barbecue.

Mine today was delicious. Chicken and chorizo skewers and lamb koftas

LieutenantLaForge · 03/06/2018 19:46

I love the pp's saying the OP should buy a house with no neighbours. Lots of us have no choice but to live in built up areas. I am surrounded by neighbours so I don't play music in the garden, shout and swear, have frequent bbqs or light fires in my garden. Because that kind of behaviour in close confines is anti-social. The odd bbq, social gathering, kids playing nicely is fine. But everyone should be able to enjoy a peaceful back garden. Inflicting too much noise or excessive smoke on others regularly means your enjoyment is at the expense of the rest of the neighbourhood.

ethelfleda · 03/06/2018 20:10

Our neighbours a few doors down have BBQs nearly every day. I think they ABU because I'm always jealous and they never invite us Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 03/06/2018 20:12

YABU. Maybe they barbecued their lunch.

TalkinPeece · 03/06/2018 20:14

Ooh look, OP has vanished

angelnix · 03/06/2018 20:26

At least they are reliable with their timings, we live next door to pyromaniacs who see it as a challenge to have as many items on fire at one given point.....the BBQ, the chiminea, the pile of fags in the ashtray, the fence, the shed.........I think that was the record! Just when we think they've stopped with one fire, they start another!

clyde5591 · 03/06/2018 20:32

YRBVU - why do you feel the neighbours are 'an obnoxious couple in the early throes? of retirement?
Why do you feel that?
What do they do that annoys you sooo much?
As you say 'I freely admit I don't like them' - why?

Re: your washing - either hang out earlier or tumble dry.

Myotherusernameisbest · 03/06/2018 20:37

Really? You're annoyed because they BBQ and enjoy their garden with their family on weekends? Seriously? Wtf is wrong with you?

Racecardriver · 03/06/2018 20:43

Just buy a tumble drier.

ginandnappies · 03/06/2018 20:46

You sound like a barrel of laughs.
