How much wine is to much

Please help settle a debate with Dh.

I've just put the kids to bed (as always at 8:15) waltzed down the stairs and poured myself a large glass of wine. My Dh has pointed out I go through 4 bottles per week.
Help me out ladies is that to much?

I should add Aibu to think that's not to much.

4 a week is a lot to me.

CottonSock · 10/05/2018 20:42

Well I am trying very hard to cut down from a similar amount. Mainly as I'm getting fat!

Fruitcorner123 · 10/05/2018 20:42

Yes sorry but that's far too much. roughly 36-49 units so nearly three times recommended.

DryHeave · 10/05/2018 20:42

I think that’s a lot. I get through 2 per week and think I should cut back.

ChickenOrEgg6 · 10/05/2018 20:42

I would say it was, yes.
The recommended maximum regular consumption is 14 units per week.
Most wines have 8-10 units per bottle. IME. So you're potentially drinking over 3x what you should be.
Can you cope without having a glass of wine daily? I don't think any daily drinking is ok or should be encouraged.

Fruitcorner123 · 10/05/2018 20:42

i mean 36-40

killinginthenameof · 10/05/2018 20:42

It's too much in theory, but in my life experience many people drink this amount

dementedpixie · 10/05/2018 20:43

Sounds a lot to me. I only have a drink on Friday and Saturday nights. 1 bottle of wine and 2 or 3 vodkas over the 2 nights

Floopbloop · 10/05/2018 20:43

Yes I'd consider that a lot tbh. I couldn't afford it for a start but it certainly can't be healthy to drink everyday.

LoopyLou1981 · 10/05/2018 20:43

If it’s always 4 bottles a week then that seems quite a lot. If 4 bottles is maximum but other weeks are 2 or 3 bottles then I wouldn’t be worried x

Rainboho · 10/05/2018 20:43

I thought I drank a lot of wine at 1-2 bottles a week...

LBOCS2 · 10/05/2018 20:44

Two large glasses each evening. I wouldn't consider that to be too TOO much. But might be good for you (and your waistline, liver and pocket) to have an evening off every second day? I've just started not drinking during the week, and even though I didn't drink heavily I feel much better for it. And thinner 😳

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/05/2018 20:44

I get through the same and I think it is too much . Problem is I really really enjoy my wine 🍷

Figgygal · 10/05/2018 20:45

Of course that's a lot I've always got a house of wine but rarely bother
Do you drink every night?

Racecardriver · 10/05/2018 20:45

That is a huge amount. How are you not permenanty tipsy? That said I can't even drink a regular glass without feeling tipsy.

coconutpie · 10/05/2018 20:45

So you're drinking slightly over a half bottle a night? That is crazy and i would consider that an alcohol problem tbh.

seventh · 10/05/2018 20:46

It's a huge amount

It's a poison, sadly all alcohol is. Sadly ....as I love white wine

I've given up because I've watched too many utube videos of what alcohol does to our bodies

AlonsosLeftPinky · 10/05/2018 20:47

4 bottles a week is loads. And drinking whenever you've put the kids to bed is a bit much.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/05/2018 20:47

Any wine is to much as it awful Grin. On a serious note that does seem a lot. I only drink on a Saturday, not every Saturday but the past few months me and dh have been making the most of the weekend and we often have a few drinks. No way are we.drinking the equivalent of 4 bottles a week though. We have around 3/4 gin or rums with mixer

Ollivander84 · 10/05/2018 20:48

I think for me the test is can you do without it for a week? Or a month? If not then I would see it as an issue

adaline · 10/05/2018 20:48

That's loads to me, sorry!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/05/2018 20:49

People may disagree too but somehow drinking a smaller amount every night, that adds up to more for the week. Seems worse than having quite a few in one day. Neither good as the latter is binging but that's how I see it. I'd think nothing of someone enjoying two bottles of wine on the weekend ...but nothing else any other days. But 4 bottles each week , drinking half a bottle each night doesn't sit right

Stinkbomb · 10/05/2018 20:50

Crumbs - I've recently been drinking at least 1 bottle most nights - put too much weight on and want to be healthier so am radically cutting down.

Fruitcorner123 · 10/05/2018 20:50

you must be spending over £100 per month on wine as well
