To love pottering round the supermarket?

I love pottering round the supermarket, buying stuff I don't really need, but it's on offer so it's a bargain! (I know they're not bargains just marketing ploys!)

I find it really relaxing. I can easily be in there a couple of hours. I'm sitting in the coffee shop at one at the moment.

Some people say they hate doing the Big Shop. I don't know how that's possible!

Even when I'm on a tight budget I like looking at stuff even if I can't buy it. Does this make me a weirdo?! It's almost up there with a spa treatment in my list of relaxing things to do! Grin

Me too - especially on holiday (looking at all the foreign stuff).

FairyCustard · 28/04/2018 16:37

YANBU, I love it! And holiday supermarkets with different stuff even more!!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 28/04/2018 16:38

I love a supermarket mooch.

I had to pop in this morning and it was awful. Too many people getting in my way.

magnetiq · 28/04/2018 16:39

I never did until I lived abroad, then really appreciated coming home and hanging out in Sainsburys with all the familiar stuff.

That wore off soon enough but then I had kids so spending time at the supermarket alone is a total treat.

I would be ashamed to say that to my teenage self!

Mercurial123 · 28/04/2018 16:41

I like buying fruit and veg at our local grocers it's a family business and always nice to have a chat if it's not too busy. I like supporting small business and their quality is really good. I don't feel the same love for supermarkets.

lhastingsmua · 28/04/2018 16:42

As long as you maintain decent spatial awareness then it’s fine

DickensianHysteric · 28/04/2018 16:43

I love it too! Especially if it's a big supermarket. I'll wander round looking at the clothes, the homeware, the books etc etc before I go near the food. I love foreign supermarkets too. We bought a tea towel in the local supermarket in Malta to use in our holiday apartment and I brought it home, it's the best tea towel ever! And I bring back reusable bags from holiday supermarkets too.
Am I a weirdo?!

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2018 16:46

I like a mooch in Waitrose as I never go in usually! Homesense is also my shop to have a wander in Grin

Queenoftheblitz · 28/04/2018 16:49

I love it too. I like looking at the world foods section but always end up buying a tin of gungo peas.
And don't me started on the bakery and deli counter.

Echobelly · 28/04/2018 16:54

I do quite like doing the weekly shop if it's on my own without kids in tow. I don't buy much random stuff but in Aldi I quite like picking up clothes for the kids or a nice wine (or their version of Pimms!)

CherryBlossomSeason · 28/04/2018 17:19

Me too! Just had a terrible training day so got dropped off at the big Home bargains and pootled round for an hour buying nonsense to make myself feel better

JaceLancs · 28/04/2018 17:22

I just love shopping!
For myself, for others, even for work
Online occasionally but prefer real shopping
Anything from a car boot sale to Harrods
Food shopping is no different
I don’t do a big shop, but prefer to pick up things as I need them, usually call at a supermarket on way home from work
I once worked it out as an average over 3 months, and due to my reduced counter bargains came out at well under £50 a week
More important I enjoy it!

HildaZelda · 28/04/2018 17:29

I love doing it in my local Aldi but only when it's quiet, and foreign supermarkets, yes definitely.
Not so keen on doing it in my local Tesco which is usually filled with screaming kids as it's in a large shopping centre/cinema complex.

formerbabe · 28/04/2018 17:30

I love it too. One of the reasons why I don't do online food shopping. Absolutely love doing the weekly shop!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/04/2018 17:31

Me too! When we go to the US I can easily spend half a day in Target, even our local not especially huge Sainsbury’s is worth an hours mooch.

Lostforagoodname · 28/04/2018 17:34

I totally love it! Get very excited about going on hols and making lists and seeing different things to buy.
Love going food shopping
Hate going clothes shopping.
This is why I can never stay in a hotel on holiday, I love self catering and looking at all the stuff I can buy!

I could not stand going shopping with my ex. It was so fucking painful. So going on my own was a nice little outing fuck that makes me sound very sad

savagebaggagemaster · 28/04/2018 17:37

A forage alone around Sainsbury's is my 'night out'! Grin

Sparklesocks · 28/04/2018 17:37

I like it too, I sometimes look at the posh stuff (expensive meat joints, wine, fancy chocs) and imagine what I’d buy if I was rich Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 28/04/2018 17:39

I love it. I like having a nosey in homewares, DIY and the outdoorsy bit.
Plus Sainsbury's cafe does a nice cream tea for when I'm feeling like damming the calories and my to do list.

French supermarkets are my favourite though, I could spend hours in their fruit and veg sections looking at about 14 different varieties of tomatoes, peaches and cherries.

Happygummibear · 28/04/2018 17:40

Love it. My DH is the "list in and out" kind of person. Drives me mad.

I usually send him off to get the stuff we need while I wander round looking at the clearence shelves.

Much prefer going on my own

Always find something I don't need but I buy in aldi and Lidl Halo

Lostforagoodname · 28/04/2018 17:41

I think you have to like food though, imagine if you hated it, would be awfully boring

BonnieF · 28/04/2018 17:42

I love a good supermarket too!

Especially abroad. The prospect of a trip to Leclerc in France, Hipercor in Spain or Publix in the US is a highlight of my day. I’m so sad that I potter around branches of Lidl in Germany spotting the differences from UK branches.

Tragic, isn’t it?

MayFayner · 28/04/2018 17:43

I do quite like doing the weekly shop if it's on my own without kids in tow.

Yes, this is crucial!

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2018 17:44

Target?! If I went to America I would need two week and a lottery win. And a Sephora visit
Sometimes I buy stuff because it looks "interesting" Hmm but one thing I try to do is buy an item out the world foods aisle and try it, even if I don't know what it is

Crispbutty · 28/04/2018 17:45

Me too. When I’m in the USA on holiday I love browsing the supermarkets there and get so fed up when I realise I can’t bring a trolley full home. They have some amazing stuff.
