To love pottering round the supermarket?

I love pottering round the supermarket, buying stuff I don't really need, but it's on offer so it's a bargain! (I know they're not bargains just marketing ploys!)

I find it really relaxing. I can easily be in there a couple of hours. I'm sitting in the coffee shop at one at the moment.

Some people say they hate doing the Big Shop. I don't know how that's possible!

Even when I'm on a tight budget I like looking at stuff even if I can't buy it. Does this make me a weirdo?! It's almost up there with a spa treatment in my list of relaxing things to do! Grin

I dislike high street shopping, but a trip to a big supermarket with clothes and other bits and im happy, especially with a bit of time and no getting back to the car as its on the clock and can mooch around. it was hell with little kids, but now they are older and i;m on my own, its great.

i am amazed that ASDA and Sainsbury might be going marrying up, seems a bit of an odd partnership as both are completely different and ASDA, owned by Walmart, is already huge ( maybe not as big in the UK or something?) i go to both for very different reasons.

AnneProtheroe · 28/04/2018 17:48

I love supermarket shopping, too. OH is a "we've got a list, lets go" shopper but I prefer to mooch around and get the stuff on the list as I go round, not skip aisles as "there's nothing we need up there" Angry

How do you even know if you don't look?! Hmm

And shops like Home Bargains are an absolute treasure trove of things that I might need if I concentrate. Grin

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 17:49

Home bargains is also very good, i go in with a basket for ' a few items' and always end up with lots of things to lug around.

I have been known to lose hours in the supermarket. Doesn't really matter which one. DS marvels at how I go for one thing and come back with twenty three.

LeonoraFlorence · 28/04/2018 17:54

I love it, always have. My mum and my DDs are the same. We especially love pottering around supermarkets on holiday. My favourite is Target/Walmart in the US. As a child, going there was the highlight of my holidays Blush. My DH doesn’t share our enthusiasm! He will go with a list if necessary and that’s it.

SluttyButty · 28/04/2018 17:56

I'd like supermarket shopping if I was the only one in there. They're always full of bladdy people, everywhere... Hmm

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 17:56

Men tend to not like supermarkets do they? its funny at christmas as you can hear the rows going on rows away where they have been made to go out to help or just have a trolley full of beer or spirits.

This is why I never go with my partner. He'd ruin the entire experience for me by buying just what we need, not pottering around or browsing. I can count on one hand the number of times we've entered a supermarket together in over a decade!

TypingoftheDead · 28/04/2018 18:09

I love mooching in shops, too! Sometimes I annoy myself when I don't know whether I want certain items or not, but in general I love having a nose about.

BonnieF · 28/04/2018 18:11

DP loves supermarkets, he’s worse than me. He’s a very keen cook and a beer geek so he’s always looking for interesting stuff. When he sees the amazing seafood displays in French or Spanish markets, he’s like a kid on Christmas morning.

Celticrose · 28/04/2018 18:13

Love pottering around a supermarket. Tesco Sainsbury whatever. Also love ones abroad. Love Longos in Canada. It's Italian and their bakery and deli are to die for. Always pick up something different and the piece de resistance is Costco. They sell everything half my Christmas decorations came from there and worked out really cheap

BarbaraofSevillle · 28/04/2018 18:22

YANBU. I'm not particularly bothered about UK supermarkets other than those that I don't get to go to often (Lidl, Waitrose and M&S), but I travel around for work a lot and can easily fill the odd dead hour wandering around whichever supermarket I come across. I just like food and looking at food and like a supermarket shop far more than shopping for clothes or beauty products.

Foreign ones are great and I love a nose around an Eroski or Mercadona in Spain. Once we went on a group activity holiday and one day I took a day off, feinging tiredness. We were self catering for some meals and I said I would cook dinner for when everyone else got back. I spent about 2 hours wandering around the massive Eroski over the road examining all the interesting stuff in great detail.

BarbaraofSevillle · 28/04/2018 18:24

Costco is also good. I need to go back because we went the other day and didn't spend enough time looking at stuff properly and I can get a slice of pizza at the cafe at the end.

fruityb · 28/04/2018 18:25

Sainsbury’s is my happy place 😊

notWithoutFault · 28/04/2018 18:27

Yes! Ao so my children (5 and 8).

Our fortnightly shop is at Waitrose which I suspect makes a difference. Tesco is fine. ASDA is horrific.

I love supermarkets in other countries. It's a real insight into other cultures.

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 18:27

I lived in Spain for a while and a local Mercandona opened up near me that was underground! The Carrefour was good too.

chewablemunchkin · 28/04/2018 18:29

Ooh I love food shopping. I like to walk down every aisle even if I don't need anything from that aisle. Picking up this and that. I love things in fancy jars with fancy packaging.
Better than clothes shopping, everything fits and you rarely need to send anything back 😁

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 18:30

Waitrose has the best aisles are they are so wide and you dont feel so hemmed in and the goods look as if they have been given a wipe before they put them out. i know they probably haven.t but it looks cleaner!
we like going there on pay day , but the nearest one is a bit of a trek.

Magmatic80 · 28/04/2018 18:31

I love it too. My DP is from foreign climes, and a visit to the local superstore is always built in to in-law visits so I can look at everything Grin they have a WHOLE AISLE dedicated to Milka, and another one for charcuterie. Amezzin’

flopsyrabbit1 · 28/04/2018 18:32

love it to,go to all of them over a 2-3 week period (dont have Morrisons though)but i have to be alone and can easily waste hrs but also get some great deals

did do online but really missed it,ive just got back from Asda and especially love it when i dont need much and can really lookSmile

Crispbutty · 28/04/2018 18:35

Whole Foods has to be one of the prettiest supermarkets I’ve ever been to. Their fish and meat counters are a work of art and the veg looks stunning.

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 18:35

We have all the supermarkets within a ten mile radius - waitrose might be a bit further.
Farmfoods was the strangest one i have ever been in though- popped in for some milk and bread ( it was on a retail estate with other shops around) and it was a bit like 1940s Russia. No where as good as Aldi or Lidl!

chewablemunchkin · 28/04/2018 18:37

OMG crispbutty that looks like heaven 😇

Crispbutty · 28/04/2018 18:39

It is! When I lived in London I would go to the Kensington one for a luxury treat. Just to look round and get something from the hot deli for lunch. I was in heaven when I was in Colorado and there was one five mutes walk away from my mums apartment.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/04/2018 18:42

We found one in New York and Boston and pootled around merrily. The cheese sucks though!
