To love pottering round the supermarket?

I love pottering round the supermarket, buying stuff I don't really need, but it's on offer so it's a bargain! (I know they're not bargains just marketing ploys!)

I find it really relaxing. I can easily be in there a couple of hours. I'm sitting in the coffee shop at one at the moment.

Some people say they hate doing the Big Shop. I don't know how that's possible!

Even when I'm on a tight budget I like looking at stuff even if I can't buy it. Does this make me a weirdo?! It's almost up there with a spa treatment in my list of relaxing things to do! Grin

The only time I found going to the supermarket interesting was when I lived a way from town, but near to a really big supermarket, didn't know many people and was working part time. Basically, it was better than nothing. I now live in a city and can go clothes and book shops and have much more fun browsing those.

A day out at IKEA (on a quiet day) is my idea of a good day out

Oh yes, mine too! With a hot dog at the end and some of those crunchy chocolate biscuits to take home.

I love a good branch of TK Maxx too. Used to work near a lovely, big, quiet, tidy one. If I'd had a stressful time in the office it was my lunchtime/end of day treat to myself. Unfortunately my nearest one now is more like a jumble sale.

SurvivingFive · 29/04/2018 13:41

YANBU! I love it. It's my rare treat without the DC.

Shopping with the DC, on the other hand..

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 29/04/2018 13:42

Not at all unreasonable, but I do think you're all bonkers!

They're bright, loud and packed with people getting in the way. It's my idea of hell - I'm in and out like a greyhound with an amphetamine habit, and never buy more than I can carry (I'd rather be in and out in 5 minutes and go in every other day than do a full shop!).

Me too! Everyone I know does an online shop. Mooching round any supermarket esp ones with a large clothing selection is my favourite thing to do. Not so much fun with child in tow. I can spend hrs wandering about in my own little world.

AgathaMystery · 29/04/2018 14:01

I love it too. ESP abroad. I travel a little for work and always hit up a supermarket and a few pharmacies. Pharmacies are my Mecca.

fussychica · 29/04/2018 14:13

I love a mooch round Waitrose particularly but other supermarkets will do.

bluemoonchances · 29/04/2018 18:54

Ahhhh so glad I'm not a weirdo! Grin
After posting the OP I spent a good 2 hours wandering around Tesco. My fav is a big Sainsbury's (I am very worried about the merger talk with Asda as I'm not an Asda fan.. it always smells weird in a bad way!)

I do LOVE a potter around a good garden centre (not that you'd know looking at my garden as I hate gardening!)

Wilkos ruins me as I end up spending money on random "useful' stuff that I then never use! Grin

Someone mentioned not liking supermarkets and supporting local shops... for the record there's a farm shop a few streets away from me where I get a majority of my fruit and veg... I'm talking about enjoying just wandering around supermarkets... that can go hand in hand with also shopping at local stores Wink

I love a good supermarket potter - I have an occasional daydream about going on one of those day trips to France, to the hypermarket - I went on one once and loved it, but I don’t think I can do it from where I live now (near Glasgow).

I get excited about going to a different supermarket - whether it be an entirely new chain (if I’m abroad, for example) or a new branch of an old friend. It may be sad, but it makes me happy.

GreenTulips · 29/04/2018 19:09

Some people say they hate doing the Big Shop. I don't know how that's possible!

I hate it - full of people hanging around looking intensely at jars and hogging the fridges!!

It's not a pass time it's a chore and I have better things to do with my time

Breakfastofmilk · 29/04/2018 21:04

This is me! I do most of my shopping online or as quick stops to local shops but I bloody love a mooch round a big supermarket looking at all the exotic stuff I don't normally see. Much better than clothes shopping.

MumofBoysx2 · 29/04/2018 21:18

I'm a moocher too although I usually buy online and only get a few things midweek. Even so I still end up meandering up all the aisles and getting stuff not on my list! :-D

This. I don't ever have time to wander around, my 'slot' for the big shop is about 45mins including getting to/from the supermarket!

Ragwort · 30/04/2018 09:36

I love it too, I am not interested in any other type of shopping but just love supermarkets for some reason, on a recent day out with my DM we went into five different supermarkets in one small town - all on foot Blush.

Wouldn't dream of food shopping on line.

Yes, perhaps I am sad but I lead a happy, fulfilled life with lots of interesting things but i just love food shopping as well.

Glumglowworm · 30/04/2018 09:48

I like mooching round Waitrose looking at all the lovely things

My usual Tesco or asda are much less interesting. Now Hobbycraft I could spend a day in Grin

longtompot · 30/04/2018 10:31

I don't think you need to worry about a Sainsburys/Asda merger OP. I read yesterday that the something or other commission probably won't allow it. Creates a monopoly.

But, I have found my people! Nothing better than a good mooch around a shop, esp a homewares sort of shop, or a charity shop. I could spend hours in Homesense, I just love it in there. I should really get a job there as my friend has.

The80sweregreat · 30/04/2018 11:04

I had to go out for some bits yesterday lunchtime and the Big Tesco only do the washing powder I like that’s doesn’t make my skin itchy ! Anyway it was rammed - full up with kids who had finished footie training, stressed out mums and dads and the poor staff trying to re fill every aisle I went down! I was beginning to wonder why I ever said I liked her it - maybe Sunday is just a bad time to go! I hope the merger doesn’t happen as Asda will become expensive I think - they are the more reasonable other than Lidl or Aldi of course.
