To love pottering round the supermarket?

bluemoonchances · 28/04/2018 16:35

I love pottering round the supermarket, buying stuff I don't really need, but it's on offer so it's a bargain! (I know they're not bargains just marketing ploys!)

I find it really relaxing. I can easily be in there a couple of hours. I'm sitting in the coffee shop at one at the moment.

Some people say they hate doing the Big Shop. I don't know how that's possible!

Even when I'm on a tight budget I like looking at stuff even if I can't buy it. Does this make me a weirdo?! It's almost up there with a spa treatment in my list of relaxing things to do! Grin

I love supermarkets can easily go asda morrisons and Tesco in one day and not get fed up

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 18:47

France and spain have the best cheeses and bread. so different to anything here.

BertieBotts · 28/04/2018 19:04

DH is a worse potterer than me! I like a potter but not when I'm trying to get the weekly shop done. Too many people and DS gets annoying halfway around. If I take them both in it's torture.

Midthreademergencynamechange · 28/04/2018 19:06

Yabu.

But I absolutely love pottering around French/Spanish/Italian/
Portuguese/any other country's supermarkets, much to the annoyance of my family.

luley44 · 28/04/2018 19:52

My absolute guilty pleasure is the Cleaning products aisle
OH YES!! Fabric conditioners, liquids, sprays...candles. air freshener. Even bin lines are interesting!! I can spend a very long time on that aisle

Swirlingasong · 28/04/2018 20:35

On my own and when it is not too busy, yes, it can be lovely. I think it's because it's such a different environment, totally separate from my 'real' life. I can just switch off and focus on things that don't take too much brain power, but without guilt because it's also necessary.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/04/2018 21:04

Yes. Now that I buy all my food in Lidl, I really only to to the big Tesco Extra near me for Things for the House. Storage solutions, towels, candles, cookery stuff.

mogloveseggs · 28/04/2018 21:07

Me and the dc love a mooch round our nearby booths and a visit to their fab cafe afterwards Grin

formerbabe · 28/04/2018 21:09

A trip to the supermarket is a brilliant excuse to leave the house, especially when you've got kids and can't think of anything else to do. Bribe them with sweets and a magazine... everyone's happy!

e1y1 · 28/04/2018 21:26

Yes!!! I love a good supermarket mooch and actually due to my job, I know where every supermarket in the U.K is for all U.K chains 😂

Also I’m lucky in how many Supermarkets I have nearby, within 10 miles, have about 40 when looking across all chains.

HoardingQueen · 28/04/2018 21:28

My Canadian friend dropped me off at 9 in their local hypermarket, i was still looking around at 5, think security were tailing me all day!, God, they sell some crap under the guise of food, loved it!

Leopoldstotch · 28/04/2018 21:28

I love the supermarket, especially when it's quieter so I can really look around. Also like going in the morning as the bakery smell is divine

EssentialHummus · 28/04/2018 22:04

Oh lord yes! I have a favourite, too - a particular branch of Lidl on Crete. My upstairs neighbour works at the Sainsbury's down the road and we seem to be in there as often as each other.

The80sweregreat · 28/04/2018 22:26

I still can't believe the Sainsbury / Asda mash up looming! It doesn't feel right. ( UK news)

recklessgran · 28/04/2018 23:29

Me too - but I love going at 10.00pm or later. Hardly anyone there and I get some me time looking at everything without interruption. It's my little secret!

Blit · 28/04/2018 23:52

Supermarkets early in the morning are my idea of heaven, I love them all.

Add to that Wilco's and B&Q, I could look at tools and paint all day.

And garden centres.

stayanotherday · 28/04/2018 23:54

I like a local Polish grocery shop for different herbal tea and biscuits. Most get what they want and are out quickly but I like taking my time.

AlpacaLypse · 29/04/2018 00:10

I like wafting round the supermarket, partially because you never know what red/yellow sticker bargain might be there waiting for you, but mostly because it's the single most reliable place since I stopped being a primary school pick up parent for running into people and getting the up to date gossip.

Babybearsporij · 29/04/2018 00:51

Another supermarket lover here! Could waste hours in there, especially the larger branches.

DamsonOnThisDress · 29/04/2018 01:14

Are you being unreasonable? I think you are quite possibly the most unreasonable person I've come across. Shock

Supermarkets are awful. Awful. I go an absolute needs basis only.

My husband tricks me into going in occasionally. After a lovely day he'll say, "Ooh, let's pop into Tesco on the way home. Get nice things to eat for tonight."

And then we get there and I hate him a little. Whisper swear words to him. If the queue is long I can get a bit Kevin and Perry.

He did the big shop for years. I recently took it over. Home delivery all the way.

The Range on the other hand. Could do an eight hour shift in there.

DamsonOnThisDress · 29/04/2018 01:16

Oh yes @Blit. Garden centres are my idea of a day trip. Blush Love them. Kill all my plants stone dead but love them.

1forAll74 · 29/04/2018 01:37

I truly hate going into a large supermarket now. its a mind numbing experience, getting hooked on so called bargains, and wandering off into the isles that sell clothes and toys and all things not needed.

I used to work in a supermarket years ago, and it was quite amazing to notice people spending hours pushing a trolly around, and debating what to buy whatever. The big stores just tempt people in. and know they are always onto a winner, !!

ShesAYamEater · 29/04/2018 01:40

i love it when i have time to just mooch around looking at the clothes and shoes and make up....bliss!

TheLastNigel · 29/04/2018 07:20

My current favourite for a mooch around is Wilko's- I absolutely love it.
There is also an excellent Tesco extra near me.( but I still miss the one I used to go to when I worked in Cambridge just off the A14 which had the most amazing home and beauty sections and tons of world food). The only supermarket I can't get on with is Asda.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/04/2018 07:41

I love it and supermarkets abroad are a holiday highlight especially the beauty products

I go when it’s quiet on my own so
I can enjoy the experience at my own pace Smile

Lidl have their Greek Week on at the moment my favorite Lidl week stocked up yesterday
