Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Children and adults who are scared of dogs need therapy. Dogs aren’t going away despite the irrational hatred by some.

One day anyone could need the services of a dog, whether a guide dog or an assistance dog. People who have these dogs have their lives transformed. Irrational fear could mean missing out.

formerbabe · 11/04/2018 13:52

I wonder if it’s because the dogs are usually better behaved?

Well ive never seen a child defecate on the pavement and I've never heard of a child mauling anyone to death so I'd prefer to sit in a restaurant with someone else's tantrumming child than a dog.

angryburd · 11/04/2018 13:54

I've seen a child shit on a shop floor and there are many examples of child murderers, if you want to be hysterical.

mellowyellow2018 · 11/04/2018 13:55

I try to pretend not to be bothered by dogs in restaurants but honestly It’s disgusting.

I also hate it when dogs owners put their dogs shit in those black plastic bags then hang them on the nearest bush/garden gate/pavement. Selfish cunts

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 14:03

Well ive never seen a child defecate on the pavement

You must be leading a blissfuly sheltered life.
I've seen plenty of that by the local playground.

At least dog owners pick up after their dogs.

mellowyellow2018 · 11/04/2018 14:08

ChardonnaysPrettySister there’s so much dog shit on the ground and those black bags hanging everywhere I find it hard to believe dog owners pick up after thier dogs.

The fact is there are far too many dogs now.

Most people keep thier dogs shut in all day whilst they are at work and take them for one quick walk a day. Dogs used to be for working needs such as on farms. People with dogs shut at home all day are selfish and cruel

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 14:14

I hate those hanging bags too, I agree with you.
And I have picked up my share of other dogs' poo because it annoys me too. But I'm genuinely bothered by human faeces left behind by mums and children.

There are too many dogs because there too many of us living in overcrowded cities with not enough green spaces and places to walk the dogs and to play with the children.

And yes, people are cruel to keep animals at home all day long. Sometimes though an animal is their only company, many of us live on their own and an animal helps with the loneliness.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 14:15

We are all barking at the wrong tree here, to keep it on topic.

We have to demand better access to parks and better planning instead of the current overdevelopment of our cities.

Cath2907 · 11/04/2018 14:16

Where is this haven of dog friendliness I would like to visit? Round here our dog can go in the bar of one local pub, a specified area of 1 of the local garden centre cafes and in the pet shop. We are pretty rural so I'd imagine us to be a dog friendly / dog liberal place. We are resigned to a life of sitting at the outside tables! There are about a million places we cannot take the dog into - if you really want to avoid dogs just use one of those!

Oh and please stop wearing perfume - I am allergic to it.

longtallwalker · 11/04/2018 14:16

I would say this bc I have a dog (recent and passionate convert to dog ownership) but I think the presence of mutts out and about adds a friendliness to a place.
A lady with her her dog sat next to me on the train yesterday and I was delighted! It sat and gently wagged at her feet.
Very soothing. But I'm not allergic.

tortelliniforever · 11/04/2018 14:19

@Orangettes there must be plenty of business owners who share your dog hating views and won't allow dogs near their business. I don't hate dogs so please refrain from insults. I don't live in the UK either.

AngelsSins · 11/04/2018 14:20

Well ive never seen a child defecate on the pavement and I've never heard of a child mauling anyone to death

Seriously?! I have. I saw a child defecating in the park just the other day, and no, mummy didn't pick it up afterwards. And plenty of children kill, just read the news.

tortelliniforever · 11/04/2018 14:22

Where I live dogs are everywhere - food shops, buses, trains, restaurants. I think there should be some limits.

AngelsSins · 11/04/2018 14:23

The fact is there are far too many dogs now.

The fact is there are far too many humans now, and we do a hell of a lot more damage than dogs. If people hadn't built so much, there would be far more space for dogs to run around away from people wouldn't there? But no, we expect the whole world to revolve around us...

tortelliniforever · 11/04/2018 14:24

And plenty of children kill, just read the news.
Plenty? Really? This is getting ridiculous. Btw children are just small humans. Some posters seem to think they are a different (inferior) species.

mellowyellow2018 · 11/04/2018 14:24

AngelsSins my point is that most people cannot properly care for a dogs needs because they are out at work all day. Most people who keep dogs do so in an inhumane way

elisa2502 · 11/04/2018 14:25

I don't have children so love taking my dogs out with me. They are much better behaved and I love that more places are welcoming them.
We have to tolerate children wherever we go so why not dogs too.

Wolfiefan · 11/04/2018 14:26

Most people are inhumane?
People I know with dogs are either SAHM or pay for dog walkers or daycare.

mellowyellow2018 · 11/04/2018 14:29

Wolfiefan that’s fine but most people who have dogs are at work all day - that’s fucking cruel. Dogs are pack animals and hate to be alone

mellowyellow2018 · 11/04/2018 14:33

There are thousands of dog attacks every year - it’s mad to compare dogs to children in this way

Wolfiefan · 11/04/2018 14:42

Pack theory is rubbish. Dogs like company. I wouldn't leave mine for more than 4 hours and not regularly.
The problem isn't the dogs. It's irresponsible owners who allow them to leap up and don't pick dog mess. Or who do but then leave it hanging on a bloody tree. Or who have no recall or control.
I walked past a postie today. She took one look at my dog and walked into the road. Poor woman. Obviously nervous. My dog was on a very short lead so she couldn't bother this woman. She's a complete baby and far from aggressive but just because I love her it doesn't mean anyone else should. She shouldn't jump up or approach anyone who doesn't want her near them. And if anyone walks in the road it should be us. Not a pedestrian.
Rant over.

AngelsSins · 11/04/2018 14:46

mellowyellow2018 you can't possibly say most people treat their dogs like that, you have no clue if that's true. Yes it's wrong to leave a dog at home all day, I completely agree, but thats not the dogs fault! Yet again, it's bad human behaviour.

Yes, children do kill, can't believe anyone is pretending that doesn't happen. And there may be thousands (really?!) of dog attacks every year, but there are far more attacks by men. Should we ban them from public places too?

I will never understand how people can speak so badly about other species when we are far more violent, destructive, selfish and fucked up, not to mention over populated.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 14:47

Unless it is a guide dog, dogs should be barred from shops, bars and restaurants.
Also I think in parks they should be kept on a leash by law, or even barred from parks altogether. There are too many attacks by dogs and the number is increasing. It just isn't worth the risk.
