Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Most big chain shops don't allow dogs ... what clothes shops are you going to where people are bringing their dogs?

Pubs = brilliant. Cafes = brilliant. Both places people who have been on a long walk would like to frequent, so smart business move imo.

Clothes shops - that's odd. I personally would love a bookshop that would let me take my dog in. I honestly cannot see the objection in many places.

GinIsIn · 10/04/2018 21:54

Well it makes absolute sense from a business perspective - there are far more dog owners than there are people with dog allergies so they are catering to their widest market.

Whatdoiladymcbeth · 10/04/2018 21:55

I cannot wait to take my dogs anywhere where they’ll let me.

But! I am (in my opinion) very considerate. I would only ever keep the dog next to me and would ensure they wouldn’t infringe on anybody else. I also only tend to take them out in the summer so we can sit in the beer gardens with them as opposed to inside (my dogs are MASSIVE).

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 22:05

My dog is massive too. She isn't allowed to get anywhere near anyone in a cafe or shop who doesn't ask to say hello to her. She stays close to me and never bothers anyone. I love her. I don't expect anyone else to!

ObiJuanKenobi · 10/04/2018 22:07

YANBU at all Op. I've noticed too. I went out for dinner to a new place in town that quite a 'cool' bar/tapas place with nice wooden benches and the table next to me there was a French bull dog with its paws on the table eating off one of their plates whilst they videoed it!!

I am absolutely terrified of larger dogs after a very nasty attack when I was 7. I have facial scarring and am still very nervous from it.

Davros · 10/04/2018 22:09

The pubs in London that I go to have always allowed dogs and our local community cafe does too. I haven't seen any in shops though. The outside area of the cafe at the local stately home has a separate area for dogs which seems a bit odd now I come to think about it.

ObiJuanKenobi · 10/04/2018 22:09

Must add - I'm not allergic, that must be awful for you, I'm just petrified of them Blush

Ummmmgogo · 10/04/2018 22:10

yanbu. they are everywhere. someone tried to sit next to me on the tube with a dog the other day. I had to sit somewhere else!

NoMudNoLotus · 10/04/2018 22:15

Your allergies are anybody elses problem im afraid .

There are different types of allergens everywhere.

UK has historically always been at one with dogs .

VeganCatLover · 10/04/2018 22:17

YANBU the worst part for me is that we live in Pembrokeshire, beautiful beaches in every direction but very few which have a summer dog ban. So we go out of our way to visit one of those (either St David's or one of tenbys beaches). But people still bring them down onto these beaches. If you try and tell them about the dog ban they get snappy. So I have to admit that last year I started to point back towards my husband when I would approach them and say he was a dog warden Blush they soon moved on Grin.

forceslover · 10/04/2018 22:21

Our local pub allows dogs which is fab, lovely long walk across the fields then a pint and crisps. We can do it all year round and the dog has a snooze in front of the fire whilst I quaff a pint! sorry about your allergies, but I'm glad dogs are allowed in some places.

MrsMollyMooMoo · 10/04/2018 22:21

I expect dogs to be allowed in the likes of the Lake District and I'm glad. I personally don't think there is enough dog friendly places in the UK.

Louislovesmud · 10/04/2018 22:22

I love being able to take my dog into a beer garden after a long walk, but I do get that not everyone loves dogs. I'd go out of my way to avoid someone if I knew they were allergic, but would still expect to enjoy access to the same dog friendly places.

PennyPeregrine · 10/04/2018 22:23

We live in London and two of the pubs near us allow dogs in

Sunnyrain69 · 10/04/2018 22:24

I had terrible allergies as a child to dust, pollen, all pet hair, grass etc.. I had to have monthly injections and carry an asthma inhaler and medication everywhere. if pet fur was even near me I would break out I itchy hives, eyes watered and nose ran, It was awful and we had pets.

My mother said The pets were part of the family so I would have to live with it and that her mother said being near them would be good for me. I actually am now able to handle most animals and have numerous pets myself, though grass still brings me out in hives.

Doctors used to (maybe still do) Inject people with their allergens in microscopic amounts to heal allergies and in a lot of cases some exposure could be beneficial.

ReinettePompadour · 10/04/2018 22:27

YANBU and I say that as a dog owner. I go out for a break from my dogs staring and drooling after my food.

I dont mind service dogs at all but random spoiled dogs begging for food off everyone in cafes/pubs/shops and fighting and barking at each other as I saw yesterday in a pub are just unnecessary.

If you go out for lunch/to the shops leave your dog at home or tie it up outside while you buy your newspaper. And definitely do not bring your dog into a cafe/pub when its soaking wet having been in the river or caught in the rain. I dont appreciate the smell or a dog shaking the water off itself at the next table.

FrancisUnderwood · 10/04/2018 22:28

Dogs quite literally disgust me. Even the word 'dog' sounds dirty and makes me feel a bit sick. YANBU.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 22:32

The word dog disgusts you?
YABU and more than a bit batshit.
Dogs drooling over you, invading your space or pooping near you? Gross.
Dogs in general? Nowhere near you and not bothering you? None of your beeswax.

Ickyockycocky · 10/04/2018 22:33

I think it’s because so many people now have dogs and cafes and pubs etc., cannot afford to turn people away.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 22:35

Yanbu. Shops and cafes and pubs are for people, not dogs. Dogs belong in kennels, preferably far away from me. What is the point of a dog being in a cafe? Or a bookshop, seriously? What's it going to do, buy the latest Maeve Binchy? They're a pain in the arse, as are the blithering idiots who take them into clearly inappropriate places like town centres etc.

DeliberatelyAwkward · 10/04/2018 22:36

We’re on a UK holiday at the moment. A DC who’s pretty nervous of dogs (the other two don’t mind them) and a DP who doesn’t have a strong feeling on the existence of the animal, but has a strong negative feeling when one is allowed to enter his personal space without his consent. Personally - I want to pet every dog I meet, but don’t, because - see above.

This holiday feels the most over run with dogs ever. Like, to the point we won’t come back to this location as it’s got so “dog friendly”. Read: “bring your dog, leave your brain behind”.

I don’t think the kids have played a single game without it being interrupted by a dog, either jumping at them, stealing their ball, crashing into the water where they’re skimming stones etc etc. The “sorry” count is into dozens. But often that’s all that happens - the owners stroll on breezily and are appalled like child abuse has just happened when my DP manhandles the dog to get a ball back/get it off the sandwiches/make it stop chasing a DC.

And if the dog isn’t visible, the millions of bags of shit are ever present.

Sorry to hear about your dog allergy, OP. We’re developing an allergy to dog owners.

[footnote: I know there’s millions of good DO out there. If I was free and single, I’d be one myself. But we appear to be magnets for brainless ones]

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 22:37

Dogs belong in kennels.
YABU.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 22:39

Francis, I hate them too. Cannot see the point of them at all. Loads of them are really badly managed these days too, largely because people get them when they are completely incompatible with their lifestyle and so they end up being poorly trained and frankly a menace. And the amount of shit from them everywhere is unreal.

Eatmycheese · 10/04/2018 22:39

How the fuck does the word “dog” disgust a person. That’s bizarre.

Sorry OP but I think it’s great that there are more places that accommodate the furry friend. Though of course I appreciate that it isn’t the most welcome development for you. We take our dog on every holiday and almost every day out. She is sweet and well behaved and normally knackered by the time we walk through the pub doors. She’s never caused a problem.

Dogs are big business. If I owned a pub or cafe they would be welcome.

nokidshere · 10/04/2018 22:41

There certainly seems to be more dog owners these days. In my group of immediate friends I am the only person without pets.

I dont like dogs and dont want to be near them but I accept that it's my problem and not theirs so I stay away from anywhere that lets dogs in.

If it's unavoidable (rarely) I expect the dog owners to keep their pets to themselves
